Rolex had to find a new vision a new identity. It started slowly transcending from a minimalistic classy tool-watch aimed at adventurers into a status jewellery with an adventurous heritage. The Subs started spending more time on executives’ wrists than on a divers’ The second major blow came with the evolution of smart phone and smart watches capable of providing a vast amount of information and capabilities as wrist tools which were unimaginable before. By that time ROLEX’s sports models had already moved on to exclusivity and status display pedigree leaving the low profile yet classy tool watch DNA in the past and keeping it only for marketing purposes. I would argue the EXPLORER - 1 & 2, as of now, is the ONLY model in the collection that still maintains to some degree that old DNA, not flashy unassuming yet classy and straight to the point tool watch. TUDOR is the brand that is “assigned” (by the powers to be at ROLEX) to carry on that old legacy. That’s why the general consensus is - “if you want to know what a Rolex sports watch used to be, look at TUDOR.” The questions is, will ROLEX ever go back to its roots and most importantly, given where the standard tool watch has evolved into, do they need to? Food for thought.
Except the "dive" Rolex's don't come on a rubber strap. I would argue the opposite as rubber strap is lighter, more comfortable and motorsport centric. The Daytona on the Oyserflex is incredible looking in real life. Yellow gold, black bezel, Oyserflex strap is stunning.
@nickhull83 but my point was a rubber strap is usually for a waterbound timepiece...like a Sub. A Chronograph isn't a dive watch so for me it looks out of place.

Ive been on list for more than 12 months for the Mint dial. Just traveled to India and called dealers, only one dealers had an Explorer. Still keeping up hope the DJ Mint becomes available
I have an OF Sundust Daytona from my awesome AD and I bought it over a full Rose black dial Daytona (which I still prefer but my wife agrees with Charlie on OF bracelets being more with the times). Let’s just say that Charlie is the reason I no longer say “rubber strap” and say “Oysterflex” and likely why my next watch will be the ghost!

I believe Rolex have out priced them self on all the gold watches, and you will see them still for sale across all AD this time next year.. apart from that all the sports watches will still be hard to purchase unless you have an honest, trustworthy customer relationship with your AD. Got quoted an approximate 8yr wait for a green steel sky dweller / bit quicker (5yrs) for a GMT in the past week from Mappin&Webb. They’re certainly playing hard to get if they’re struggling 😂
Since the two tone submariner watches, particularly the Bluesy, got increased around 5 % in price 2025 I saw an increase on the older16613 and the new 126613lb but not the 116613lb. The first two increased a fair amount just around January first but the latter decreased around 3 % instead, according to chrono24. Do you know why that might be the case?
It usually takes a few months for the new prices to settle in the market and the older models prices to catch up. Fingers crossed over the course of the year they will all adjust accordingly 👍
It is possible to walk into AD with no purchase history and get st/st watches. I traveled around several cities in England in December and was offered Explorer 1, Airking, Skydweller and DJ Wimbledon, fluted on Jubilee. Was very pleased to purchase the Wimbledon..
YM Models are to close to a sub and less useful than a GMT so never really understood why they were so highly priced. the Explorer II with a polar dial is the one to go for as its more durable the polished mid links on the GMT's and YM's are hard to keep scratch free and aimed at the sailing market its hard to not scratch them as pulling lines, covers etc... all take their toll same as wet weather clothing the latest Titanium model is much better but the previous models are really just dress watches made to look like it has more of a purpose, the white dial balck lume models were at least different and the smaller size was a plus.
Let's be honest, if the "watch you like" is a steel Daytona, Pepsi or SkyD with the blue dial, then no, if you like anything else, it's a matter of weeks right now.
"Is the Rolex market manipulated?" LOL, and does the sun rise in the east. Of course they do. Rolex, to their great credit, has synthesized supply and demand at a level that even De Beers would envy. they make over one million units per year - and could make more - and yet modulate availability, protecting retail pricing and the secondary market. I'm an unabashed capitalist. Good for them - and yes, i have them in my collection, so I'm not a hater, but their market manipulation cannot be denied.
People love stainless steel because they can’t afford a true luxury watch. Sure you have a Rolex but it is a full stainless model. At least get a two tone if you want to actually impress someone. Stainless is for the poors. I sold everything except my stainless GMT to include Patek, VC, AP and Rolex when idiots were paying 2-3x the price for a watch and made out like a bandit and all were scratched to shit. Now I am looking to get back in the game and sell my GMT and get something ignorant like a yellow gold Day Date or yellow gold GMT since every asshole has a stainless model now.
Watches coming in waves for the expensive models makes sense when Rolex are a mass production conveyor belt manufacturer. They will tool up for a certain model and make the years supply in a few weeks, then tool up for the next model .It is not as if anything is hand made and there is a slow steady supply. Other conveyor lines will be making OP and Subs all year round

Grey market prices are finally dropping. Which will mean guys like yourself will be offering to buy people's watches for even less, you'll be offering people £6,000 for a brand new batman, just to sell it for £10,000. I wager this knock on effect will at least remove 70% of people on waitlists buying a watch to flip/investment
I already know of one watch dealer selling an unworn 2024 sprite for £12,500. And another selling an unworn 2024 batman for £12,500. Granted these aren't bricks and mortar stores, but it shows we're nearly at list price.
I could buy either of these now but why bother. I've a feeling if i hold out for a few months, i'm going to get offered either at list. Maybe not the sprite, but the batman quite possibly.

Watches coming in waves for the expensive models makes sense when Rolex are a mass production conveyor belt manufacturer. They will tool up for a certain model and make the years supply in a few weeks, then tool up for the next model .It is not as if anything is hand made and there is a slow steady supply. Other conveyor lines will be making OP and Subs all year round

Grey market prices are finally dropping. Which will mean guys like yourself will be offering to buy people's watches for even less, you'll be offering people £6,000 for a brand new batman, just to sell it for £10,000. I wager this knock on effect will at least remove 70% of people on waitlists buying a watch to flip/investment
I already know of one watch dealer selling an unworn 2024 sprite for £12,500. And another selling an unworn 2024 batman for £12,500. Granted these aren't bricks and mortar stores, but it shows we're nearly at list price.
I could buy either of these now but why bother. I've a feeling if i hold out for a few months, i'm going to get offered either at list. Maybe not the sprite, but the batman quite possibly.

Well that’s just rubbish !! I got an op in 2023 within 6 months but was told a couple weeks back it’s 5 years waiting list for a sub! They tried to sell me Rolex’s that I didn’t want and no one wants
