    I’m so impressed with your video. I’ve been supplementing my income with dog walking, drop in visits, and house sitting. It’s quickly becoming a passion.
    I am a big fan of UA-camrs Zak George and Tom Davis. I recommend anyone who’s interested in doing professional dog walking check out their videos. They are informative and super entertaining.
    I noticed that you’re not carrying a backpack. In my backpack I always carry a slip leash, collapsible water bowl, water, training treats and extra poop bags.
    The reason I carry a slip leash is because on my Second job ever I just began my walk with Zero and in the first three minutes his leash snapped. I freaked! I was able to catch him in the neighbors yard. I was looking around frantically for some thing I could secure him with. Fortunately, I found a bunch of string (like they tie a Christmas tree with to your car.) on a neighbors porch. I did a slipknot around his collar and make it back to his home . Never again!
    I’m also sure to give client updates and videos. The clients love it. I’m also give holiday gifts. One dog I care for had a grooming brush that was worn out, so that was his Christmas present. Another dog I walk in the dark didn’t have a glow collar so that was his gift. It was $20 but well worth the investment to build a strong client relationship.
    Questions: What do you do when a off leash dog approaches you?
    How do you handle it if your dog is reactive to other dogs?
    Do you incorporate obedience into your walks?
    Do you get a commission off of the obedience trainers, pet groomers, veterinarians that you refer to your clients? That’s some thing I’ve been thinking about. I would only select those that I feel are a good match.
    I look forward to watching more of your videos!

      Yes it was great hearing this. I still struggle with some clients like this. I give a 2 hour window as well and some people still just do not understand and you have to remind them.

    I just started dog walking a couple of weeks ago, I really appreciate these tips! A lot didn't apply to me because I work for a larger company and do only walking, no admin stuff, but I can totally see the importance of customer service.

    Hi Doug, how do you avoid the extremely hot pavement in FL for much of the year? Just stay on the grass? My locale is also super hot and I'm wondering if dog walking is feasible. Thanks for your feedback. :)

    What is the best online course to become professional dog trainer and help me to setup my business and give international or very well known certificate?

    • @DougtheDogGuy
      @DougtheDogGuy  3 роки тому +1

      I'm not a dog trainer so I am probably not the best person to answer your question. I know there are several widely recognized certification programs, the most known probably being the Animal Behavior College. My advice would just be to ensure whatever program you choose is fully positive reinforcement.

    Thanks for the video, I am wanting to start as soon as I can and this video helped. I have checked into the insurance and bonding but do you recommend any certifications before I start? I just want to start out in my neighborhood part time 5 jobs a day as a dog walker. Thank again.

    • @DougtheDogGuy
      @DougtheDogGuy  3 роки тому +2

      There are several certification programs for pet sitters and dog walkers, the most known being NAPPS (National Association of Professional Pet Sitters) certification, and PSI's (Pet Sitters International) certification. Personally, I think you are better off by jumping in and getting some clients and networking with your other local pet sitters. You'll learn way more from jumping in than you will from the programs, and clients don't know the programs even exist so they generally do not help you stand out.
