    I appreciated the breakdown/progression of Funkadelic and Parliament records. I could definitely hear the rocker side on the album Maggot Brain. I can honestly say that I have never heard "Feets Don't Fail Me Now". Crazy though. If a certain is praised. I may or may not check it out. When I hear that so and so's album is the worst. I always check it out. So it looks like I will be checking out Herbie this evening. BTW. I consistently check out all of the albums that earn a positive critique from yourself. I always respect your reviews. And that is the truth. Thanks A. Have a good weekend. Hope the weather has been better there than it has been here the last three weekends~

    I think that Riot album is the only one anyone needs. I think your original assessment of that Pretty Maids record is spot-on, though. I just got into that Slaughter record, myself, and I'm digging it. Don't know how I feel about it overall. The jury is still out on it.

    Great bunch of records Aaron. Ive been close to pickin up that The Next Band one. Im near sure there was a Leppard/ Wild Horses/ UFO connection with them. That Cintron one sounds solid! Maggot Brain is so good. I have Face Reality by Slaughter House, must play it again, dont think ive heard the one before it...Nice one mate!

      @@blackleathereyes3673 I really don't know anything about the Next Band, but I could believe there was some kind of connection, like what you're talking about. NWOBHM and psych funk? Badass. First two Funkadelic were the most psychedelic albums in the US in 70/71.

    • @MetalTheologian
      @MetalTheologian  2 місяці тому

      Hell yeah man, and not just psychedelic, but legitimately heavy too! I got SO sick of all the "psychedelic" records that were just hippie shit that it took me until well into my 40s to realize I actually really liked the Dead....

    I can imagine Metallica covering stuff of that Next Band, so it really kind of fits. Terra Cotta, not so much; I do hear some Talking Heads in there, though. Parliament and Funkadelic always felt like two totally different groups to me, I didn’t get the PFunk designation either. Great show, thought provoking as usual. Later

    It's funny what we do and don't consider NWOBHM. I generally go with it beginning in 79, but if the band only released a single in 78 or even late 77 I generally don't have an issue with it. The one that always gets me is Quartz. I always considered them NWOBHM, then found out their first album was 77. The Next Band sounds great...hadn't heard of them before. How is that Lee Perry? I was looking at it at the local shop last week, but didn't grab it. I'm probably with you on the Pretty Maids...I like their first few, but Future World is the one I tend to pull out from them.

    • @MetalTheologian
      @MetalTheologian  2 місяці тому

      @@harmlessrebel868 That Lee Perry is great: The sound is exactly what you want from a Lee Perry album. It's a totally satisfying listen. Regarding "NWOBHM", I'm pretty well convinced that we confuse ourselves by using the same term for two different things. So when talking about the era, I tend to be pretty strict, but when talking about the sound, I'm a lot looser. Several are my favorites are from 1984, and I have a hard time calling those "new wave" anything when they came out after fuckin' Show No Mercy. But they totally have that "NWOBHM" sound I love so much. Scarab - Poltergeist and Trident - Destiny immediately come to mind.

    I have been spinning Herbie Hancock-Mr.Hands it grooves too but is at the lower portion of the list if I made one . I think it’s close maybe a couple above feet don’t fail me know but still Herbie is on top when it comes to what he does . Cool video !

      It's funny, I've never heard anything good about Mr. Hands, but that one doesn't seem to get the hate that Feets does. I might have to check that one out next, hahaha... Honestly, some of the hardest Herbie records for me to get excited about have been some of those piano trio ones. I mean, there's nothing wrong with them, but I'm just sick of piano trio records (sorry, Bill Evans).......

      Dude, that one really is fantastic. I'll be honest, I've tended to poo-poo the whole "'79 Revisited" thing on the grounds that there wasn't really any NWOBHM before 1980, but that Samson single changed my mind. I probably wouldn't have checked out the other three otherwise!

    Funk and Metal. Great on their own, but a gruesome combination when a band tries to mesh them; except when Sweet does it. I liked the CinTron record and have to dig into Pretty Maids Future World

      @@briggscharleton6139 It's funny, I played that Cintron record once or twice before I made the video and didn't think much, but I was really into it when I shot this, so they've gone up a couple of notches in my estimation. Funk plus metal.... yeah, that's generally a pretty dire combo.

    Tera Cota sounds New Wave-Punk. Talking Book has a weird sound to it. Almost what it sounds like to be tripping on acid. I like Point Of Entry. Though I haven't heard it in a couple of decades. My Metal friend, Tom, hated Point Of Entry.
    Secrets was a big disappointment. Sunlight by Herbie Hancock was a bigger turd. I never listened to any Herbie after. I should check out Future Shock. I'm going to purge the Jazz. Herbie isn't going anywhere.

    • @MetalTheologian

      I think for Blue Öyster Cult, "the one everyone hates" would probably be Mirrors or maybe Club Ninja, but they're not a great example, since they made several albums that people shit on. You should definitely check out Future Shock. I'm a little biased, because I fell in love with it when I was 11 (decades before I got into jazz), but I still think it's a funky album that's easy to listen to and enjoy.
