Had the pleasure of staying in Siem Reap in 2016. All I can say, is see it if you can in your life time, GO! Angkor Wat is everything I thought it would be and more! It gave me a very special feeling internally, to have had the chance to walk through an ancient "Time capsule" was amazing! The people and their customs were beautiful, along with the great cuisine! They are still having a hard time with all the unexpended ordnance, from all the horrific wars that the Cambodian people have been through. So if one decides to venture out into the countryside, get a guide! Once again, if you can make a visit, it is worth the time! Another great video, thanks Lucas!
I agree France 👍
You absolutely have "that Gift of Gab", Lucas! Thats a compliment! You could be a huge star announcer back in USA! No doubt! Walter Cronkite, or Alex Trebek would be in Jeopardy... haha..of losing thir jobs...to you, sir! Really! 😎👍
I am happy you enjoyed your visit to Siem Reap, I have lived in Cambodia for nearly 6 years, Phnom Penh, for 3 years, now Kampot, for nearly 3 years.
The Cambodian people are the friendliest people one could wish to meet.
Fish Amok is my favourite Cambodian dish as well.
See it in person is nothing like pictures or videos..thanks for sharing..
Oh we paid 15 dollars for a tour guide to guide us around, R4K, the whole experience would never be the same without him. All the facts, all the history, the stories he told us made the whole experience much richer.
Of all the places I’ve traveled Cambodians are the friendliest
Yea I rate cambodia Philippines Bali way ahead of Thailand for most friendly people my opinion
I'm Cambodian 🇰🇭💛🙏. Welcome to Cambodia 🇰🇭💛🙏💐. Thank you so much for visiting my country we have beautiful heart for everyone 🙏💛💗🩵💚🫶...
Nothing better than waking up on a Saturday morning to a notification that you just posted another video! I wait for the coffee to finish percolating, pour me a mug, and sit on my deck and start the day off right! Thanks for all you do. 👍👏🏻🌹🙏
Awesome, have a great weekend 👍
Thanks Loucas... so informative. We are off on Tuesday retracing your footsteps !!! All 10,000 of them !
Memory Lane! Was just there last month with my Cambodian ladyboy girlfriend. We rented the costumes and hired a photographer for the day. This was a priceless experience for my girl and her family back on the farm loved the photos.
Next year i’m going to take the entire family (about 12 of them) to Angkor Wat and get everybody dressed up. It will be the first time the kids have ever swam in a swimming pool.
Also, we sat right there at the Temple restaurant…and i sampled the frog dish. (tasty! really). Siem Reap is a gem. charming. ….and, my girl being Cambodian got discounts or was free everywhere. Nice surprise. In Thailand she usually pays full price. Great video!
Very beautiful Lucas, thank you very much. This was a particularly fun episode - your tone, really upbeat with perhaps more "on camera" than off camera commentary, a very nice recipe. It gave me the desire to say "honey, pack the bags, we're going to visit Angkor Wat !"
Thanks Scott 👍
Lan and Lucas this was awesome and see. Have a continued pleasant trip👍
Thank You Anders 👍
First went to Siem Reap and saw Angkor in 1994, was magnificent.
Great stuff. Thanks
I have been traveling to Thailand 15 years now I have never been to Cambodia before I have always wanted to go to see the temples at ankor wat I will go to siam reap next time I travel to Thailand
Oh that food does look amazing!!
Cambodia a great spot very close from saigon by bus worth a gander
Loucous , looks like you are enjoying your trip , Angkor wat looks like an amazing place to visit for a few days , thanks for sharing your experience ,have a safe journey back to pattaya
Cheers guys
🙂 Looks like an interesting place.
That Temple was huge and the work created was amazing. To see it no longer in use is sad but amazing. The man hours had to be in the millions. Your evening was interesting as well. The food is sold from a very large menu and covers every type of food. The portions are large. That is a great bucket list place! Thank you for sharing with us.😀
You're Welcome Timothy 👍
Looks like an enjoyable time in Cambodia. The temples are a fantastic historic experience. And you're thoughts about the people who have walked there before you leave you humbled.
👍👍👍
A place with so many questions and wonders , thank you for sharing .... Enjoy and please drive safe .
Thanks Karl 👍🙏
Your videos are always interesting and entertaining, but this one was also educational! Thank you!
Welcome 👍👍
I've been to Thailand, Vietnam and the PI in the late 90's, but never Cambodia, Laos or Burma. I used to hear how Cambodia was so "primitive" compared to Thailand, but I see now that, at least in the tourism areas, they've caught up with Thailand. Good to know that it's an easy day (or 2) trip to experience a little bit of Cambodia. Thank you, Lucas!
Welcome Jon 👍
I would love to tour Burma, the place is stunning going on Top Gears tour.
Amazing looking place
Thank you very much for sharing wonderful gorges enjoyable video take care
Thanks for visiting 👍🙏
We spent 3 days there in 2006, when I was working in Saigon. The temple complex is breathtaking! It looks like they added some handrails on those steep steps, thank goodness! Thanks for sharing your experience with us!😅
Yes, the handrails were helpful 👍
Always great to tick off a bucket list item. Thanks for sharing and taking us along with you, Loucous.
Welcome Frank 👍🙏
I was at Angkor Wat 10 years ago and there were virtually no people at the temple for sunrise…..flash forward til 2019 and bus loads of people waiting😬……it is still an amazing place to visit…..super video Lucas
That's amazing how it has gained in popularity 👍
Awesome Vlog what a Interesting Place for sure Thanks
Thanks Anthoney 👍
Awesome content really enjoyed it thanks for sharing
Thanks Mike 👍
As usual excellent presentation of details
Thank you 👍
wow awesome and will put this on the list of places or sure, unfortunately, it is not listed as one of the 7 wonders of the world....
That was one of the most enjoyable videos yet
Thanks 👍
Dream come true, so cool, awesome trip!
Thanks James 👍
amazing, defenly on my bucketlist to see. great video
Thanks 👍
Very interesting. Angkor Wat is on my bucket list. There is so much mystery behind it.
Yeah, definitely go for a look, the town is fun as well. With 35 baht beers I can't believe there aren't more people going 🤣
When I went didn't stay In poi pet went straight to Siem Reap arrange a tuk tuk out side hotel got tickets day before for the sunrise at Ankgor wat tuk tuk driver stayed with us and took us around to other temples the one which featured in Laura croft, like you visited the local markets and pub Street in the evening
Visited Cambodia and Angkor Wat back in 1996. Took a boat from Phnom Penh up the river and crossed the Tonle Sap lake, and last part sitting on top of a big truck on dirty roads to Siem Reap. Back then a just a quite little village with only a couple of main streets with a handful of Guesthouses and small local restaurants! I did the 3 day tour with a local guide on his motorbike. Back then there were still some remnants of the Khmer Rouge hiding in the forests so it was a bit dangerous to go to some of the far away temples! Amazed to see how much the town of SR has changed, looks like a totally different place now with a "Walking Street", restaurants, hotels and Night clubs!
I've heard about that boat trip, actually probably safer than taking the roads and maybe even faster. Don't know if it still exists.
Boat was some kind of smaller "speedboat" that flew on the water at very high speed! Interesting to cross the big lake and see how people lived in "floating" villages! Left PP early in the day and arrived at SR late afternoon. I opted to fly back to PP though.@@Rides4Kickz
Great video, your vlogs really outdo your friends .
👍👍👍
Looks great 😃😃👍👍
Great video Lucas!👍😀
Thanks Stefan 👍
Nice video, was there in 2006, also during the monsoon and that was something else.
Seems a lot more cars and shops these days, used to be fairly empty and under developed back then, guess Chinese money has flooded it.
Loved the taste of amok, so different from Thai, Indonesian or Indian curries.
went there once (well twice) and it's an amazing place!!! booked a trip out from pattaya, including hotels and tour guide. truely loved it. one thing i want to say is the kids running round there. i dropped some money, may be 6/7k riel. one of the lads selling batteries ran up to me to give it back to me. i never occurred to him to keep it!
Awesome
First day in Cambodia,
Wonderful place for tourist destination
Thanks 👍
Excellent presentation. What do you think about the Angkor Wat tours from Pattaya?
Absolutely stunning! I visited there in 2022. Can't wait to go back!
Have fun!
Cambodia 🇰🇭 warm welcomes you
Have been to Ankor Wat and also Ankor Tom . It makes the mind boggle how it was built it is HUGE
for sure 👍👍
Lucas, fantastic video as usual, watching your video brings back a lot of nice and beautiful memories from my trip to Cambodia, especiall from Agkor Wat
My pleasure!
Great video lucas .name of hotel siem riep.keep it rollin
Come to Buriram or Phimai right in Thailand and you can see the outer buildings of the wheel which Angkor Wat Is the hub.
Hello, Lucas
Fantastic vlog. Do you know if the carvings on the walls of the temple depict stories the same way as the Egyptians hieroglyphs? curious. Your curry looked delicious. Stay safe. Next time 😊😊😊
Have visit Ankor Wat on 2019 .Love to see the sunrise 👍
Nice 👍
Great capture of Angkor Wat Lucas! We really enjoyed Siem Reap, my video launched today, more of a mix off a few temples we visited including Angkor Wat. I good some good photos as well included in the video. Highly recommend Elia Greek restaurant near pub street if ever in town again, food was fantastic.
Worked for a year in Siam Reap, wonderful.
Wonderful 👍
I was very interested in the fish amok. We have a Cambodian restaurant near with a 4.5 rating on yelp. I looked on their menu, I didn't see that dish. However, I will go in with your video and show them the picture. Maybe they can make it, lol. I hope it's not too sweet. I prefer savory curries.
So Amok can also be made with Chicken as well if they don't have fish, but the real ingredient that they will struggle with is the leaves in which the dish is placed in when steamed. I have seen some place the dish in a coconut to steam it. That's not quite the same but still good and a decent substitute for the actual dish.
I’ve heard the the rainy season is the best time to visit Angkor Wat, because it’s not as busy and all the pools look better with water in them!!
There was no water in the 2 big pools inside the main building, although the rains just beginning in earnest now.
I was at Angkor Watt in 1997, and there were still bullet holes in the walls, from the all different battles that raged around it.
Always enjoy your adventures. ❤✌️👍🙏
Thank You 👍
Wow amazing trip!
Curious as I'm single was there company available in pub street ☺️
Yes 😊
LOL! She has to pay the full price since she is not a Cambodian, so she should understand now how Farangs in Thailand feels.
Exactly 🤣👍
Yeah
Good video. Lucas, you speak very well. Did you used to work in broadcasting at a radio or TV station?
so cool! I would love to visit there! Sounds like a reasonably priced outing, from what you've said. How was the fish?
have a great week!
One other temple a must visit in the Ankor Wat complex is Ta Prohm, the Tomb raider temple. Alas I didn’t get to see it as the Amok caused havoc with my digestive system the night before, perhaps I was just unlucky, but I suggest go to a western fast food restaurant in Siem reap the night before. Also there are private air conditioned car tours at very reasonable prices that can pick you up from your hotel and drive you round all the temples all day.
👍👍👍
First time I was there half nineties I had Angkor Wat for me alone. Siem Reap and Phnom Penh only had dirt roads and Siem Reap to Poipet took 16 hours by jeep.
Wow, sounds about right though. I remember in the early nineties here when it took all day to drive from Bangkok to Rayong 🤣
Someone needs to go there and pressure wash it. That would be fun to watch. Thanks for another video!
You bet
Lucas... Great vids.
Also, is there a used motorcycle market in Pattaya.????
Anyone know..??
Wow. I think that is the same Hotel I stayed in. Plenty of very nice boutique hotels in SM
Yeah, I think I lucked out choosing that one 👍
Great trip, what hotel name you stayed at while in Siem reap
So much better to enjoy seeing and eating with another person. Plus when they enjoy similar activities
I agree 👍
I've only been to the Cambodian capital. I need to see more. Nick J
Did you get a refrigerator magnet from that temple place?
I knew I forgot something 🤔
I been there in 2008 hade a little Asian adventure Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.
Nice 👍
Very similar to W(h)at I did when visiting Ayutthaya. But that was to go around the entire place and see as much as possible in the one day. But Cambodia is definitely on my radar. Flying solo 🛫 literally sounds one way to do it 😉
You can do it PeaPaul 🤣👍👍
@Rides4Kickz lol 🤣 I'll go the Philippines with you definitely 😉
That Temple is sure Pretty Grand , and I would rather wander around
on My own also. Three Days Touring that You will not be Board. I thing
the Drive with Scenery is better than Flying , But You do have a choice .
Thats a Fantastic place , Thank You and Safe Travels .....
I would definitely not be BOARD but I might be BORED.
Absolutely 👍
I just arrived Bangkok and want to apply for my Retirement Visa. There was a full service you mentioned but can’t find video. Can you give me name of who you used again or a recommendation. Love your work.
Croc burgers at "Humpty Doo" pub just out of Darwin
Nice to see you having a good time Lucas ,How empty the nightlife looks from the videos i watched a few months ago 🙄
Yeah, still low season there for sure, will probably pickup in a month or so.
Hi Lou and Lan,I can see your having a great time in Cambodia, do the locals speak English. I never herd Lan speak. Take care.
We had no problems, they either spoke some English, some Thai or both. Lan even spoke a bit of Khmer so communication was never an issue 👍
yes
Ein schöner Tempel Lukas 🤳 das Video 👍 Liebe Grüße aus Hamburg Gruß Achim 😎⚓🥊🍺🎸💃🎶🕺🌻
Danke Achim 👍👍👍🙏🙏🙏
Originally a Hindu Temple. The Turrets are based on the Lotus leaf, it became a Buddhist site Hundreds of years later.
Lucas. Why when you do a shoot. Then there's nearly always a mirrored image from ndtvi. Your ladt was from Cambodia. now ndtvi from Cambodia. By the way. Really enjoy. Your shoots. Hoping to get to thailand myself in January. Drinks on me if I see you out and about. Keep up the good work lucas.
How was the live music ? For a single guy is their much fun to be had ?
It was a mixed bag, I came back through there later and it seemed the various venues had competing music. At least that is how it sounded walking down the street.
Wow, what a shocker. I’ve never even heard of that place. Amazing history. I’ll have to go and look for some other information on this place.
Also, I just found out the structure that is pictured on the Cambodian flag is Angkor Wat.
Yes indeed 👍
Its also the only world flag that has a building depicted on it>@@Rides4Kickz
I found Cambodia a bit crazy in Phnom Penh, but outside the city was awesome. Where you are is very nice and possesses great historic value. I was surprised when I saw it that it hadn't been bombed by the US during the VN war.
I think there are many rural areas which lag significantly behind the urban areas in development there.
I often wonder about those big bags of rice etc. they always seem to be full so whatever happens to the rice at the bottom of the bag?
Pretty sure the turn over is such that the last portion of a bag is poured on top on the new bag and it goes on like that. They are selling a kilo or two constantly, people tend to just buy for the day so there are many customers.
I plan on retiring there because it's so easy to get a visa unlike Thailand and I think the cost of living is a little cheaper in Cambodia compared to Thailand.
👍👍👍
Think your right mate , lived in Thailand prices going up up up not the same as before
It is called Venice of the east, because it was miles of canals and all temples were surrounded by water. When I was there the first time ,Pol Pot was living near the temple on the Thai border. No tourists , only the military
Not heard it referred to as that, but possible 👍
Anlong Veng is a bit of a drag from Angkor and used to take a while before the road was metalled. Pol Pot died in 98. Used to be a restaurant in SR and the late owner supposedly pinched PP's toilet. The guy who famously interviewed Pol Pot in Anlong Veng, Nate Thayer, died not so long ago
16:04
You: "How do you say grasshopper in Cambodian ?"
Lady: "Food" 🤣🤣🤣
How happy you must be to not live in the USA anymore. Cambodia looks fantastic.
One of things when I was there I saw carvings of dinosaurs that were long extinct tens of thousands of years before this temple was built. This is living proof that these prehistoric animals lived at the same time this temple was being built.
"Hey! ....Fetch me a Crocodile Burger, and make it snappy!"
So sorry! ...Could NOT RESIST!
The "walking street" Looked cleaner and better maintained that walking street to be honest. The rest of Cambodia looks pretty rough. The Temple was amazing. I haven't seen a $140 Planet ticket in the states in like 15 years. LOL. Used to be able to take flights from like Dallas to Vegas for $150, but that almost never happens anymore.
Yeah, some of the short flights here can be under a hundred dollars even, keep in mind I believe that is only about a 45 minute flight. 👍
What is the name of the hotel? Can I use baht?
Looks worth a visit. How long did it take to drive from Pattaya?
About 4 hours from Pattaya to Arranya Phratethet
Is Cambodia generally cheaper than thailand? Would u recommend it over thailand to live?
Maybe marginally cheaper but not enough cheaper to influence a decision to choose there instead of Thailand. The options of housing are less, the infrastructure is lower level, services such as medical, transportation, retail etc. are all lower level. Depends where you feel comfortable and safe more important than saving a hundred bucks a month.
I think I may have developed Tinitus during this video... I had a slight ringing in my ears towards the end! 🤔
Hi, Lucus & Lan, I enjoyed your video. Angkor Wat is on my bucket list as a must-do before I die. Some even say it was built by Aliens and they use it up to today. Fascinating the technology used to build the place is far beyond anything we can build today. Thank you for taking us along with you. Take care, GOD Bless you and yours. M
Thanks Pokeaman, definitely try and make it out there one day 👍
Someone with a preasure washer could make a fortune out there. 😊
