    Had the pleasure of staying in Siem Reap in 2016. All I can say, is see it if you can in your life time, GO! Angkor Wat is everything I thought it would be and more! It gave me a very special feeling internally, to have had the chance to walk through an ancient "Time capsule" was amazing! The people and their customs were beautiful, along with the great cuisine! They are still having a hard time with all the unexpended ordnance, from all the horrific wars that the Cambodian people have been through. So if one decides to venture out into the countryside, get a guide! Once again, if you can make a visit, it is worth the time! Another great video, thanks Lucas!

    I am happy you enjoyed your visit to Siem Reap, I have lived in Cambodia for nearly 6 years, Phnom Penh, for 3 years, now Kampot, for nearly 3 years.
    The Cambodian people are the friendliest people one could wish to meet.
    Fish Amok is my favourite Cambodian dish as well.

    Memory Lane! Was just there last month with my Cambodian ladyboy girlfriend. We rented the costumes and hired a photographer for the day. This was a priceless experience for my girl and her family back on the farm loved the photos.
    Next year i’m going to take the entire family (about 12 of them) to Angkor Wat and get everybody dressed up. It will be the first time the kids have ever swam in a swimming pool.
    Also, we sat right there at the Temple restaurant…and i sampled the frog dish. (tasty! really). Siem Reap is a gem. charming. ….and, my girl being Cambodian got discounts or was free everywhere. Nice surprise. In Thailand she usually pays full price. Great video!

    Very beautiful Lucas, thank you very much. This was a particularly fun episode - your tone, really upbeat with perhaps more "on camera" than off camera commentary, a very nice recipe. It gave me the desire to say "honey, pack the bags, we're going to visit Angkor Wat !"

    I've been to Thailand, Vietnam and the PI in the late 90's, but never Cambodia, Laos or Burma. I used to hear how Cambodia was so "primitive" compared to Thailand, but I see now that, at least in the tourism areas, they've caught up with Thailand. Good to know that it's an easy day (or 2) trip to experience a little bit of Cambodia. Thank you, Lucas!

    Visited Cambodia and Angkor Wat back in 1996. Took a boat from Phnom Penh up the river and crossed the Tonle Sap lake, and last part sitting on top of a big truck on dirty roads to Siem Reap. Back then a just a quite little village with only a couple of main streets with a handful of Guesthouses and small local restaurants! I did the 3 day tour with a local guide on his motorbike. Back then there were still some remnants of the Khmer Rouge hiding in the forests so it was a bit dangerous to go to some of the far away temples! Amazed to see how much the town of SR has changed, looks like a totally different place now with a "Walking Street", restaurants, hotels and Night clubs!

    • @Rides4Kickz
      @Rides4Kickz  Рік тому

      I've heard about that boat trip, actually probably safer than taking the roads and maybe even faster. Don't know if it still exists.

      Boat was some kind of smaller "speedboat" that flew on the water at very high speed! Interesting to cross the big lake and see how people lived in "floating" villages! Left PP early in the day and arrived at SR late afternoon. I opted to fly back to PP though.@@Rides4Kickz

    Seems a lot more cars and shops these days, used to be fairly empty and under developed back then, guess Chinese money has flooded it.
    Loved the taste of amok, so different from Thai, Indonesian or Indian curries.

    I was very interested in the fish amok. We have a Cambodian restaurant near with a 4.5 rating on yelp. I looked on their menu, I didn't see that dish. However, I will go in with your video and show them the picture. Maybe they can make it, lol. I hope it's not too sweet. I prefer savory curries.

    • @Rides4Kickz
      @Rides4Kickz  Рік тому

      So Amok can also be made with Chicken as well if they don't have fish, but the real ingredient that they will struggle with is the leaves in which the dish is placed in when steamed. I have seen some place the dish in a coconut to steam it. That's not quite the same but still good and a decent substitute for the actual dish.

    One other temple a must visit in the Ankor Wat complex is Ta Prohm, the Tomb raider temple. Alas I didn’t get to see it as the Amok caused havoc with my digestive system the night before, perhaps I was just unlucky, but I suggest go to a western fast food restaurant in Siem reap the night before. Also there are private air conditioned car tours at very reasonable prices that can pick you up from your hotel and drive you round all the temples all day.

    The "walking street" Looked cleaner and better maintained that walking street to be honest. The rest of Cambodia looks pretty rough. The Temple was amazing. I haven't seen a $140 Planet ticket in the states in like 15 years. LOL. Used to be able to take flights from like Dallas to Vegas for $150, but that almost never happens anymore.

      Yeah, some of the short flights here can be under a hundred dollars even, keep in mind I believe that is only about a 45 minute flight. 👍

    Is Cambodia generally cheaper than thailand? Would u recommend it over thailand to live?

      @Rides4Kickz  Рік тому +2

      Maybe marginally cheaper but not enough cheaper to influence a decision to choose there instead of Thailand. The options of housing are less, the infrastructure is lower level, services such as medical, transportation, retail etc. are all lower level. Depends where you feel comfortable and safe more important than saving a hundred bucks a month.

    I think I may have developed Tinitus during this video... I had a slight ringing in my ears towards the end! 🤔

    Hi, Lucus & Lan, I enjoyed your video. Angkor Wat is on my bucket list as a must-do before I die. Some even say it was built by Aliens and they use it up to today. Fascinating the technology used to build the place is far beyond anything we can build today. Thank you for taking us along with you. Take care, GOD Bless you and yours. M
