Columbus Baby Gorillas - Sue's with Mara
Вставка
- Опубліковано 19 жов 2024
- This video shows an updated video of gorilla Sue and her baby girl, Mara, at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. This is Sue’s first baby. Background: Baby was born June 28th. Mom, Sue was born at the Lincoln Park Zoo on September 27, 2004. She has been at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium since 2014. Dad, Ktembe, was born at the Smithsonian's National Zoo on March 13, 1997. He arrived in Columbus in August of 2017.
Columbus is also famous for having the first Western Lowland Gorilla born in a zoo in the United States. That gorilla was a female named Colo. She was born in 1956, and lived until 2017. She reached the age of 60 years old, the oldest gorilla in a zoo at that time.

-In general, gorillas live 35 years in the wild. In captivity they get better food, medical care and have no predators. Life expectancy can range from 50-60 years.
GORILLA CONSERVATION - one of the easiest things you can do to help gorillas is to recycle your cell phone or other hand held electronic device. Recycling electronics helps support gorilla conservation programs. Cell phones and other electronics contain a mineral called coltan (it is short for columbite-tantalite). Coltan is mined in areas where gorillas live. Recycling cell phones reduces the demand for coltan, which helps protect these native habitats. Some estimates report gorilla populations have declined 25% in the past 20-25 years.
The Conservation status of the Western Lowland gorilla is “Critically Endangered”.

I love seeing a mom Sue and her baby girl bonding.
👏😁
3:25 Aw the baby is so 💝 adorable. 😆 I thought Sue's eyebrows deserved mentioning. They make her face rather expressive, in that she seems like a happy, and proud mom.
😁yes
Thanks for going to Columbus Larry so we could see Sue and her new baby girl.
👍😁
Your fortune is really ours! Lovely moments between mom and baby ❤ Thanks Larry!
You are welcome. 😁
Oh I love that line…..your fortune is really ours ❤
What a sweet baby girl.
Thanks for commenting Sharon! 👋
The gentleness of gorilla mother's is beautiful 🦍❣
Isn’t it? Gorilla mothers are amazing, devoted, gentle, loving, attentive. All the great maternal things. Amazing Mamas. I just love to watch them never get tired if it. 🦍♥️
I was just thinking how safe and peaceful this precious baby is in her mother's strong arms. ❤
@troyannbladsacker1811 🤗
@gorillabff1003 😁
😁
Mom and baby are beautiful ❤. So sweet to watch how mom is so caring with her little one.
😁
The up close video of Sue and her baby is just precious. Her daughter was sleeping with her little head resting on mama’s chest!
👍😁
@@larrysanimalsafari Thank you for all the videos you post for us. I'm especially grateful for your closed captioning. It's so helpful and enjoyable to know who we are looking at and what they are doing.
@troyannbladsacker1811 😁
@@larrysanimalsafarihi Larry how do I order
I don’t think I’ve ever seen a bearded gorilla except on planet of the apes but that is such a wonderful picture of the baby and the Mom. Looks like the baby sleeping. I use to only watch lions and elephants now I’ve added gorillas. I lovegorillas. Jamani needs to get with Kiembi so they can play together.😂😂😂❤❤❤
👍😁
Genki in Kyoto and Gyasi who was from Apenhaul are bearded gorillas. The varieties of gorillas 🦍 are fun.
Thanks for the video, Larry! I was at the zoo last weekend…most of the gorillas were in the indoor habitat and were just relaxing or sleeping. Sue was initially in a covered hammock with the baby laying close to her…couldn’t see much because it was a little dark there. She eventually moved around, but as you said, she had her back to the visitors most of the time. We managed a few glimpses of the baby, who is adorable. Hope to see more of her as she gets bigger. 😊😊
👍😁
It is like looking into the past and seeing the evolution of humans. The mother/baby interaction is so fascinating because it shows how closely we are related.
😁
Sue is so aware of the onlookers.... that was quite the stare she was giving you, lol. 👀
👍😁
Hermoso video de una mama y su hija ❤. Gracias Larry!!!
👍😁
What fun Larry! Sweet mom and baby. Both seem to have especially slender fingers.🥰
😁
I noticed that too - very long, dainty fingers and toes (by gorilla standards)❣️
@vjc2270 😁
Thanks Larry for another great video. Watching Sue with her baby is precious ❤
🤗
Such a wonder.....to much noise ❤
😁🤷♂️
Congrats Mother Sue and Baby.🍼🐒🌷🐒❤
Morning Larry🖐🏼😊❤️

👋😁
I love it
👍😁
The close up of mom and her gorgeous tiny babygirl is só adorable😍🥰and Jamani makes me laugh with her goofy quirks at the end😅🥰nice work Larry!👏👍🥰🌞🌻
👍😁
La madre como que se come su cabello igual que Iriki. Cómo siempre excelente video Larry. Thank you very much
😁
Thanks for these videos and the joy we have to see them! :)
😁
Another excellent video, as always. Thank you, Larry!
👍😁
Good morning Larry! That closeup of Sue and baby is awesome! ❤❤Thanks!😊
👍😁
Grazie Larry ❤❤❤
👍😁
😁
Beautiful video Larry of another new mother who is visibly caring for her beautiful little girl. And what a cutie that 4-year-old Jamina! Seems to me also a very interesting troop with 2 separated silverbacks there each with their own harem. Saw a video a year ago in which both silverbacks alternately hit and kick the intermediate doors, reacting to each other. was a very nice video too
Thanks, that sounds like my video with them taking turns pounding on door. 🤣
@@larrysanimalsafari 😂🤣😂, when I typed this piece I already thought; wasn't that also a video of Larry?🤔. Nice to have that confirmed!👍🏻. You see: even many of your older videos stay somewhere in the back of our minds, they are that good!👌🏻Thanks also for this older but very well filmed, edited and impressive video of the masculine behavior sometimes of the 2 silverback gorillas of Columbus Zoo. 🦍🦍🙏🏻
👍😁
Another precious baby💕💕
😁
Great video thanks Larry 😊 👍
😁
Thank you Larry. Now we get to see the time we didn’t get to see with Baby Jameela at Cleveland. As a very a small Baby. Sue’s little girl is still considered possibly as a newborn/infant. It will be interesting seeing her grow in her phases of development.
👍😁
I love that you give us videos from other zoos❤
👍😁
What a sweet video. And I'm probably not alone in thinking it would be great if Kayembe had a playdate with the 4 year-old Jamina.
Was reading about how another troop there had a surprise baby last year from a gorilla they thought was male. (Sully)
Awesome camera work, Larry!
Thank you 👋😁
Larry I envy you being there daily. I’m from Michigan now in Arkansas but I’m making a trip to see these amazing Beautiful families. I watch you daily and it always brings me such joy and comfort❤
Glad you like the videos. 👋😁
Great video. Thanks so much.
😁
Thankyou Larry !
👍😁
Another nice video. Thanks Larry
😁
I'm surprised that Sue and baby G are not having some "alone time"... don't most zoos allow recently born offspring time away from public display? BTW, thanks again for the great video Larry. Appreciate your dedication.
They were off exhibit in the beginning - until July 8th or 9th. Today they could only be seen for 3 hours.
Magnificent❣️ Mama definitely knew you were watching. 🤨 It’s great that they were only out in the exhibit for a few hours and that the zoo lets them have plenty of private time. Baby looks very healthy and interested in her surroundings in the first part of the video, and then very relaxed sleeping in Mama’s arms. I think she was having tiny milk-drinking dreams. 🥰 Jamani is adorable - eager to play with baby Sis, just like Kayembe❣️Thanks so much for taking us along on your trip to Columbus, Larry - did you see Sully and Kwame as well? 🤩
Thanks , Sully and Kwame were huddled in a hammock on the inside. It was rather dark and very busy - so I’m glad I caught Sue while outside. I made a trip down to Columbus before Sue had her baby- I got nothing from that trip. Lighting is so important.
Thank you for all that you do.
👍😁
Beautiful video. Gorilla are such creatures. The only thing I wish for is larger enclosures for the troops.
😁
Beautiful, wholesome moments between another wonderful mom and adorable baby! thanks Larry! I think you got some side eye from Mom! 🤣
Yes, thank you
TY..for updates ❤
👍😁
Adorable❤❤❤
😁
Sue looks tired. Baby Sue looked like she was sleeping most of the time. When my daughter and I visited Woodland Park Zoo in 1997, a couple of noisy teenage girls upset the gorilla. The gorilla responded by charging over and pounding on the glass. The girls screamed and left. The gorilla gave us a, "you can stay," look. We were talking quietly.
👍. You were accepted. 😁
@@larrysanimalsafari that's what we thought.
Thanks for going down there, Larry. Did you get to see Nia? I haven't seen her in anyone's Columbus video for a year.
There are two troops there - she's not in Sue's, but she's fine. ❤
I love her, too!
😊
@@mortalclown3812 Really? I haven't seen Nia in videos of Mac's troop either. She was in a Tusa situation a couple of years ago. I hope she's not too traumatized to adjust to her new group.
I did see all the gorillas including Nia. Ktembe’s adult females are Sue, Nia and Cassie.
@@larrysanimalsafari I'm so glad, Larry! I was getting worried.
Is Sue a 1st time mom? Had the volume turned down, I'm in the hospital
Yes, it's her first baby. ❤😊
Hope you're better soon! Take care
@@mortalclown3812 Thank you
Yes, first time mom.
👍
😁
🙉👀🥰💖🇭🇺
👏👏😁
Thank you Larry for sharing. Is it normal to have only a few gorillas in the troop? Do they do it on purpose?
Normal?…, there are many zoos in North America with small numbers in a troop. The gorilla SSP - (Species Survival Plan team) along with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums decide how many gorillas are in each zoo and which gorillas live where based on genetic and social considerations to ensure a healthy/manageable population exists in zoos.
Thank you Larry for your wonderful videos. It appears that the gorillas are aware that they are on display for us. I feel sorry for them but glad that .they are safe, well cared for and loved.
