Should have been no lower than a 9.8. That landing on her leap was a definite mistake, but where else are they taking deductions? Every other landing was solid. Dismount was terrific.
8/22/19, Biles era, and I'm still thrilled. "Dominique" is the perfect name... She dominates!! She looks so tall & mighty in her routines, and when she runs to her coach we see how small she is. She still dominates. 💛
Its insane how beautiful and difficult the beam from this video is compared to beam today , the beam work from the US now , has zero artistry , the difficulty is lacking , they all play it safe with generic routines, the era of Dominique and Shannon is timeless and amazing gymnastics even compared to todays stanards and code .
Very true, but I try not to compare the gymnastics of old to the gymnasts today. Different era Different rules. In the past it was more about artistry, flexible, gratefulness, and agility. Today it's more about power, strength, dominance and showmanship. This is even viewed in the body types of today compared to back then. They were more slender back then. Today they're just muscular. Even in just 10 years their bodies changed. I mean look Gabby Douglas compared to Simone Biles. She's more slender, but look at Nastia Lukin compared to Gabby, even more slender. Then look at Dominique compared to Nastia, even more. So as each decade passes so does what gymnastics used to look like. Which in a way is sad.
Definitely agree! What score would you give it? At Worlds, this routine was scored out of 9.9 in event finals, so even if that was the case, I still think this should have gone 9.7+
LilPetit Such a trash score. Dominique was so well respected among her peers but sometimes the judges wouldn’t give her due back then, even though she was gaining the same level of respect internationally. No way to justify that score.
Remember this was the year she should've won gold on beam at worlds , but judging was very corrupt back then so basically shannon was pushed to the top alot after 92 not saying shannon didn't deserve all she earned, but there was always some scores that caused even commentators back then to question, that big reason why the scoring system was changed. After that crappy judging in Athens.

Not anymore. Biles’ double twisting double tuck is by far the most difficult dismount and probably won’t be attempted by another gymnast anytime soon.
