It’s so funny to me how some people can say these are boring. I’m a tent and car camper and backpacking is not my thing. But I love seeing how it all works and the different ways it can be done. All of it is interesting to me. I guess the point is. To each his own. But I think it’s crazy to come on here to post negative things about something that absolutely doesn’t affect you 😂 you go girl!
I love that you are doing “your hike” and not just sticking to the norm and pumping out 20-30 mile days all on the red line. I hike like you are doing. I do my own thing while checking life boxes off. Nothing against those red line people at all but I like seeing people just do themselves. Especially don’t listen to the haters.
Howdy Kelly! We are enjoying your hike and awaiting your arrival in NM! At some point the cottonwoods are going to let their puffy allergen laden goodness go and then u will know allergies! At least we do! Hope not for y’all! Be safe! 🤠🙏
Was vacationing in SD and was getting bit by flies and gnats. A local recommended applying any kind of vanilla fragrance. Went to Walmart and purchased whipped vanilla fragrance mist. Amazing!!! Problem solved!!! However didn't keep mosquitoes away.
I always carry a roll of duct tape to put on itchy bug bites. Put a piece of tape over the bite and the pressure of the tape on the skin spreads the feel of the itch to a wider area and sometimes it goes away completely. This really works, I swear by it. The stickier the tape the better.
Badlands of South Dakota had the worst biting whiteflies I ever experienced. Bit through blue jeans and insect repellent didn’t help at all. Swarms of them.
You could compile and sell a digital map of where the bugs are unbearable and you wish you could have skipped on all these trails! Troop Beverly Hills type hikers like myself would love it 🤣
The trail purists are like the Pharisees...more worried about the law than the heart of the law. You're living a dream, don't let anybody take the joy from what you're doing. Anyways, your fans love you regardless because you're getting it done!
Essential oils like Lavender, eucalyptus, peppermint and lemongrass essential oils make excellent fly/mosquito repellants. I put a healthy drop behing each ear. also mxed with water in a tiny spray bottle to spritz on arms, legs, face etc. Just a suggestion
I think the deer flies are the ones that bite. You guys should be using teamwork, like taking your pack off and handing it to your partner on the other side of the hanging trees etc. Also, you should play rock, paper, scissors to see who gets carried across a creek to keep their feet dry. Watch out for snakes as it gets hot and you get further south. Check you sleeping bags etc.
You were my entertainment during a taco dinner in FL. Sorry about the flies. I drove to Canada & Alaska in '22, had 3 weeks of it. I'd do anything to escape it. Insect hoards.
Have you tried Stroopwaffels? Bones marking the way is always sus. I cannot imagine the bugs that get you. I am guessing bug spray doesn't work for the biting flies.
Hello nine lives you're a very beautiful friend I appreciate your friendship hoping the best for your hikes please remember to relax in your tent and enjoy the scenery your friend always Gary
Hi Kelly. It’s Bub. You are right. Watching thru hiking is like watching paint dry. It’s not for me. Like a bunch of lemmings on a worn path to the sea. I liked your other videos so much more. Watching an out of shape Dan Becker get rescued from an anxiety attack is more entertaining. God bless.
@@kellyhays23 Glad I got a laugh out of you. Those flies remind me of the White Mountains in NH. Who am I kidding, I can’t go 3 months without checking in on you😊
ok last time I will say this lol...I really wish you could do the 100 mile high route in the wind river range but its pretty extreme but way prettier than the CDT through the wind river range in wyoming....many consider it the best raw hike in any mountain range in lower 48. but if you guys can at least go to the Cirque of the Towers that would be way worth it and a beautiful lake called Lonesome Lake and a water fall is near the lake as well. I camped right by the water fall - No matter you do it will be Awesome : )
Great video. !!! I wonder why you guys don't take deet with you ? Or if you're afraid of the chemical something natural to repel the insects. Or don't you have regular access to buy it on the trail. ? Those woods are beautiful. I'm going to drive to Payson Arizona to hike in the ponderosa pine Forests. And explore the Mogollon rim. Hell yeah !!!!

Nice country. As the flies, they are annoying. In NH they have black flies and they really hurt when they bite. Happy Trails!
I love watching your videos! Thank you for sharing them. Be safe 😇
I guess in New Mexico you'll be loving that water trough....
Bugs and power lines 😅. Gotta love the adventure!
Such crazy weather-snow to hot! No bugs, please!

Big difference in trail maintenance between the AT and CDT
Looks like you were not a happy camper this section, I don't blame you!!Hang in there Kelly 😻💪
Deer Flies middle name is probably Dracula. Had them and horse flies on grandpa's farm when I was a kid. Still hate em.

oops - hordes, not hoards. lol
Biting flies because regular flies weren't annoying enough....

Yes I eat those often!
Sawyer's Picaridin, spray or lotion, will be your friend with the bugs / biting flies.
Been using all the sprays and nothing has worked great :/
it isnt a kelly hayes hike unless shes wounded lol
Just wondering, ever see any Bigfoot’s? St.Paul,Minnesota.

Lol nice dance moves
Gosh, your legs really took a beating. I would've been bitching and moaning the whole way lol You are so badass.
What's worse.. these deer flies, or the no-see-ums you encountered in the Florida keys?
I’ve been thinking about this a lot and I think it’s the deer flies
Love the video, hate the horse flies ya got to check out this new invention called 👖 pants to protect your legs from cuts and scratches 😊

Are there "mile markers" on the CDT like there are on the AT?
On FarOut yes, but there are so many routes out here it’s not the same as the AT
