I was curious if you were still planning to do a part 2 of this video? Specifically, have you tried bearings/balls with the mixer and what was your results with them? Also, which balls did you have success with, I’m presuming they would have to be made from the same 440c stainless steel as the rods. i may follow up with a part 2 when i get back to making more tool reviews. using the tool with just metal balls doesnt work as well as the original bar, as the balls are magnetised to each other and the effect is reduced. I use mr hobby metal balls and the dspaie metal rods and have not had any rusting occur (just over a year of use)

sadly i dont have those in my tool collection so can only comment on the tamiya jars. (40cm wide) The metal bars are 20cm in length so as long as there is room for this to spin at the bottom, it should work
The bars supplied are just metal rods. The magnetic part is the motor in the unit itself. For the speed this can get up to(especially on usb power) I wouldn't recommend mixing without lid on.
Thorough review thank you! I wonder if it would work with dropper bottles. The tiny metal rods look a little too large for army painter or Vallejo droppers. And I'm not sure steel balls can do that vortex thingy. If you try would you let us know in the description or comments maybe ? Thanks
I believe the paint would need to be thinned for the bar to get up to speed. The metal bars are 20mm wide so would be in a container with a larger base and as flat as possible.

@@oldskoolskillYT Just ordered one, any thoughts on metal ball already in the bottle and add one rod vs. one rod only. Also can one rod only mix surfacer good enough so the bottom surfacer separated?
@@calvin14888 I've found one rod in thinned paint more than enough (when using usb power). On battery power the effect is still good, though may struggle in an unthined primer.
Another thing to consider is that the Press down Vortex mixer has a risk of giving you permanent nerve damage from the vibrations, that's why they've been banned from Labs and subsequently marketed at hobbyists. All Labs now use magnetic stirrers and they are more or less the same price as the vortex ones on amazon. Also a lot of UA-cam videos on how to DIY build your own mag mixers from a PC fan and some magnets.
Fair point, but lots of things we do in this hobby is not "healthy" and as long as you don't do it all day long, then its probably ok, besides, you cant use a stirrer with dropper bottles unfortunately.
Cant imagine a need to swap out the bars (unless it went rusty). However easiest method to extract the bars is to use a magnet to pull the bar up the bottle and out.
@@masonchapman361 I see! Then magnet trick would work well to extract them! Dspaie do sell the bars separately, in packs of 10. So should be enough to cover multiple bottles

Sadly they are to large for most acrylic paint bottles. no room for them to spin. Better off with glass balls and vortex mixer for those.

Looks like the bar was off centre.
You should also try two metal rods to see what's happened.

Didn't realize about the pc fan method! Definitely will research into it as a backup, should this particular unit fail!
