I honestly can say I have found my diy wrx source. Your videos are superb. Keep it real. Wrenching at home is a dying thing. Lots of people are too scared to crawl under a car and do this. Thanks for at least shoeing them how you Cando it and be safe at the same time.
Wow, I wish other DIY car videos were half as clear as what you do here. Hope this is similar enough to my Forester where I plan to replace these mounts. Thanks and congrats on the quality and clarity of your videos.
Thanks for taking the time to make the video. Well explained and good camera angles. Best video I have watched so far to learn how it's done. Great safety tips as well 👍.
Thanks for the video. You gave me the confidence to do mine, but it has not gone anywhere nearly as smooth as yours... I still haven't gotten the studs in place yet
Honestly its never as smooth as it looks in my videos. Working on cars you usually run into issues when doing an involved job like this. Take your time and be careful while doing it, you'll get it I promise! It took me a little while to get the studs in place as well.
Wow great job filming those tight angles. This is definitely the best DIY I've seen. I am surprised that you were able to get the space you needed with the stop pitch mount still bolted on. I've seen ohers remove the bolt on one end.
I had a hard time lining up the bottom pins . What helps and give you more play is to disconnect the upper dog bone mount. No pry at needed them to line up 😊
Interesting. Tricky but not as bad as it could be. Thanks. I’m glad you mentioned wedging something for safety. Also good idea to have someone working with you for safety during certain bits. My 06 wrx wagon has 276xxx on it and with a new zf designs transmission and clutch, I’m thinking I really need fresh engine mounts. I’m getting clutch chatter and gearbox chatter and I am betting new mounts will help. Especially since the tranny now has the group N mount… engine should too
Yeah I noticed a great improvement with new engine mounts. The car feels really solid and stronger. I would definitely recommend doing the engine mounts. Also make sure you do the wishbone mount (on the rear of the engine that attaches to firewall) too. And make sure that the Wishbone mounting location to the firewall isn't breaking off the firewall or loose. When you go to install those, they give you a grease to use with it too. Thank you for the support and good luck!
I just pull the engine with mounts still attached. Works every time just need to use the jack on trans bell housing while you use the engine hoist on motor. Just my 2C
Great video. Best one I've found so far. I dont know if you can help me but I have a 2009 subaru forester that I'm trying to do this on and it looks super similar. I took out the nuts on the motor mounts on the bottom but when I go to raise engine a little the entire car raises still. I dont know what else I'm missing? Any help would be much appreciated
So there should be 1 nut on the bottom of each Motor Mount, and there should be 2 bolts on the top of each motor mount. Normally you would remove the 1 nut off the bottom. Then carefully remove the two bolts off the top of the motor mount. Then jack the car up, and the motor mounts should be free. If your still getting hung up on something, I would recommend VERY SLOWLY raising the engine, while checking along the top of the engine to see if there is anything getting hung up or caught.
@@VinnieT really appreciate the feedback. I do know that my forester has that dog bone type connection on the back of the engine and was told to remove that but it seems like it would just pivot up when raising the engine
@@MC-eh2ot Oh yes that would be the actual cause. I was not fully sure if they had the same dog bone type motor mount in the back attached to the firewall. In this case, you would just easily disconnect the dog bone motor mount in the back, it should have 1 bolt on each side of it. I would recommend completely removing it cause its quick and easy, and you dont want it to get in the way of the engine while your lifting it up to replace the bottom motor mounts. Also double check online for the torque specs on your dog bone mount before tightening it back down.
Thank you! And I asked my self the same question afterwards, because I actually have a brand new trans mount that I need to put in. I ran out of light that day and have been busy but I do plan on installing it eventually and I will put out a video for that when I do.
Mike S Thank you. The job takes 2-3 hours depending on your tools and equipment. It’s faster if you have a lift and a pole jack stand. This process is the same for an 06 Impreza.
Yeah some of them are rusted haha, gotta drill them out so i can still use the bolt holes, and then I would love to get a skid plate with the oil change hole.
Yes because otherwise when you go to Jack the engine up, it won’t go up high enough. I suppose some people might leave it in but I’ve always found it easier to just remove it so you don’t fight against it.
@@VinnieT the one that goes on the threads of the motor mount towards the end of the install where you had to move the motor around so it would go in the hole
Mechanic Pro Tip: You can safely lift the motor by the oil pan as long as you use a sturdy piece of wood large enough to spread the load. This will distribute the load/force when you slightly lift the engine up to replace your engine mounts.
@@CarimboHanky I generally plan to do these types of jobs when I know I have a few days free, incase I need an extra part or something. Otherwise the car will be down until it’s complete. Also helps if you got a second car just incase you run into issues. Good luck with everything, you got this!
I would make sure the rubber bumper hood adjustments are not the issue first. Also check that there are no hoses or anything else sticking up too high.
Thanks. This is hands down the best motor mount install video that I have seen for a Subaru.
Thanks I really appreciate it man! Glad to help, stay tuned for more to come!

Thank you very much I really appreciate your support! And I hope that your job goes smoothly for you, it should be pretty similar.
Happy wrenching!
This video is incredibly well made. You did an awesome job. This is extremely helpful. Thank you.
Thanks so much this means a lot! Glad this helped you out!
That's how DIYs should be. Well done! 👍
Thanks! 👍

Thank you for your kind comment, I appreciate that! Glad this helped you out and thanks for your support!
Very helpful video, I did this job over the weekend. That bolt you can't even see is ridiculous!. Again, great video!.
Glad to hear you got the job done! Thanks for the support!
Safety first, just like me, way to go.
Always better to be safe then sorry!
Magnificent detail. Very good work. Thank you.
Glad this helped! Thanks for the support!
Came to this bc my studs won’t go back into the frame when I lowered my engine back down😭very helpful vid for my problem
Thanks for this upload bro..it helped me alot..👍🏽

FYI the wrx and stis came with same mounts from factory, Group N mounts are different and are a harder rubber :)
Video fire bro everyone else doing to much lol
Thank I appreciate that!
The deflated soccer ball... is like a tom brady move, but actually useful and just a simple life hack.
hahah it works like a charm!

Those bolts for the undergrad probably rusted. Mine did, I put an aluminum skid plate on with oil change hole

Is it necessary to remove/loosen the rear pitch mount?

Where’d you find that strut bar??
Either Craigslist or FB marketplace. Bought it used.
dope to watch
Thanks man!
Are the motor mounts the same for LH and RH? Just rotated?
They come as a pair, I believe the only difference is the metal top plate on them.
kinda weird looking at the underside of a subaru and the entire thing not being coated with oil
Depends who owns and operates it! As well as who maintains it haha!
What is the torque spec on the rear nut with washer? Also do you think the washer being bent upwards would prevent it from being tight?
Hello, im not sure which nut and washer you are talking about. Could you be more specific?
@@VinnieT the one that goes on the threads of the motor mount towards the end of the install where you had to move the motor around so it would go in the hole
@@minipancakess The torque for the bottom nut is 85 ft lbs

Are we not gonna question lifting the engine by the oil pan?
Mechanic Pro Tip:
You can safely lift the motor by the oil pan as long as you use a sturdy piece of wood large enough to spread the load. This will distribute the load/force when you slightly lift the engine up to replace your engine mounts.
I doubt the transmission coupled to the engine is not damaged while lifting the engine up..
handbrake* (not e-brake)
Good thing I'm doing this with the engine out😅
that would make this job a whole lot easier haha
man i love my hawkeye but damn there is no such thing as an easy task with this cars
Yeah it’s the design and shape of the engine, and this is one of the more complicated jobs, especially laying on the ground in your driveway lol!
