    This movie looks familiar. I also bought Anchor brand transmission mounts for a Japanese import car, just like you. I also had fitment problems and the holes didn't quite line up, just like you. Mounts worked fine at first. Now they are all broken and I can feel the transmission moving with each gear shift. I regret using Anchor and have replaced them with factory OEM mounts. I hope your story turns out differently!

    Just did my 02 forester transmission, front differential was toast, got the whole car for 500$. Came here trying to figure out what that rubber puck underneath was for. Doesn't make any contact. Now I can see it's sort of a failsafe. Turns out my mount was in the same condition as yours, makes me wonder if that was the whole issue before I got it. Grinding from the front diff non stop bearings were sooo bad. Thanks for showing your work! Now I can put this together with confidence knowing what that puck does

    While attempting to change the mount in my 2000 Outback I was having a hard time getting the Duralast part I bought to fit. By that I mean it was impossible. The bolt holes didn't line up. I took it back and got the anchor part like the one in the video. That part also did not fit. I went back to Advance and told the employee. After he thought for a minute he decided to look up a part for a '99 Outback. He said that if the car was manufactured after June of 1999 then it could be called a 2000 model. One thing I noticed was that the two parts that didn't fit only had 3 bolt studs, while the original part had 4. Turns out the' 99 mount has 4 bolt studs. I haven't gotten the part yet but I am feeling hopeful. If I remember tomorrow when the part gets here I will confirm whether or not it fits. Hopefully this helps anyone who might be having a similar problem.

    You probably don't hear this that much but man, is that clean. Around here, there is rust everywhere. Every piece of sheet metal that isn't treated has rust. I told myself when my kid got a truck I'd go to a less salty state to get it, but we found a deal here and everything underneath is covered in surface rust. Maybe next truck when the budget is more than $1000. LOL,

    I was installing a new exhaust system in my outback and did a rattle check (still have all heat shields under the car) and noticed the center bolt on trans mount floats a tad when I smack my cat section. Ended up here lol hopefully this is my gremlin for roughness at stops and like you said, granted mine is NA, can’t get on it & gotta wait until you can feel it picking up to ease back or get into it.

    Hi Brian, Happy Thanksgiving. Love your Vids! I know you have a lot Suby experience. I have a 2004 Sti with 90,000 mi on it. I have a loud enough to hear "Pop" or "Clack" that sounds like end link noise... but it's not. Also could be rear strut cluck, but its not. I already installed and re-tourqued all wheel bearing nuts, which it sounds like too, but its not. The noise can comes from the right or left rear, and its easy to replicate by driving slowly in a low gear and gently rocking the throttle on and off. It doesn't happen so much hitting a bump, it's not a loud bang with hard acceleration or shifting, just mostly on and off mild throttle. Without the sound system off it's easy to hear. Under the car the only thing that makes any noise at all with a prybar is the rear subframe outrigger bushings, which seem like they could be a throttle on and off culprit, but it doesn't sound the same as when inside the car. Do you think new outrigger bushings are what it is, or maybe something else? Have you run into this before?

    Hey Brian,
    Thank you for the video. I just replaced my transmission mount and this video was extremely helpful. Couple of questions for you... I did this with hand tools and a torque wrench. Do you know how much torque I should be using on the bolts for the mount and the cross member? I also replaced the driveshaft and now the car bucks in first and second gear. I have an automatic transmission and changed the fluid so that looked fine. I'm not sure why it's bucking but it feels like it's coming from the back of the car and there's a less angry troll dancing on the driveshaft. Any help is much appreciated!

The rallying definitely happens- just never get it on camera. I play hard to balance the work hard- just try not to make the play time work time I guess. Great question/request though Jake. Cheap plastic zipties break after a couple of years. Nylon "Tywraps" cost 10 times as much money, but last for several decades.
    You get what you pay for. "Tywraps" also have metal clips in them so you can get them much tighter as well.

    hey brian quick question for ya my 99 subaru forester keeps throwing a check engine light and the code reads as a knock sensor i took off the sensor to find it was cracked so i stole one of my 98 forester parts car everything seemed good but code still has not disappeared ive cleared the code and it still pops back up any suggestions?

    • @reweydewy
      @reweydewy 7 років тому

      Reggie Cox Is it a knock sensor circuit code? if so make sure you have the correct sensor for the vehicle. even if they look the same doesnt always mean they are the same. if the sensor is good your gonna have to check the wiring from the sensor to the computer using an ohm meter. visual wiring inspection couldn't hurt.

    Did the RPMs go up when transitioning to a different gear? I have a Honda Civic that the RPMs go up just as it's going into 2nd and 3rd...and then SLAM. I've also learned to ease off right before it switches gears. It only seems to do it when it's under torque. I wonder if what I'm seeing in this video might be the same thing happening on the Civic....or maybe the trans/clutch is just going.

      @tam1381 7 років тому

    • @CubasAutomotive
      @CubasAutomotive 7 років тому

      Tam Couch yeah, you're right, he didn't go back and tighten it anymore. But like I stated, you don't want that one too tight. If you notice, the rubber bushing is still somewhat "sandwiched" or squashed. Whenever there's a rubber bushing involved, these bolts or nuts are not supposed to be driven down.
      The whole reason he went back & loosened it was because he noticed he over tightened it originally.

    I'd like to weigh in on the "if you're a good mechanic...." comment. lol PERSONALLY, my aspirations isn't too be a good mechanic, although I want to be a good mechanic lol if that makes any sense... let me elaborate. It's definitely beneficial to be a good mechanic(good with your hands, able to spot MECHANICAL issues). That will definitely help your career no doubt about it. However I think if you've even thought about making auto repair a career, then you should undoubtedly already have great mechanical aptitude and coordination. My aspiration is to become a great TECHNICIAN. My mechanical skills supplement that. They go hand -in-hand no doubt. If I HAD TO take my car in, and let someone else do something to it, I would want a certified TECHNICIAN on the job, rather than a "good mechanic"...... does that make sense? That's not pretentious is it?

    A buddy of mine actually made a copy of the Rallitek "soft" bushing insert (He's not selling them, don't worry) but he made them for a small couple people and been meaning to get mine in. Told it helps with the drivetrain thrash from the transmission. Well anywho, I've actually got more rust down there than what I saw on yours and mines only a 2011 Legacy. Would you suggest I buy hardware for everything or just get the three main nuts in the middle? Thanks for the video btw. I think I'm gonna see if my buddy can do this in his shop instead of me laying on the frozen ground and lobster crawling on my shoulder blades around under the car.

    There is an easier way to 'fix' this. Add a rubber bushing to the center bolt, the one with about an inch of movement when you lift the trans.
    I did this on a '99 with too much rust to get the mount off, it felt like a brand new mount, even 50k miles later.
    I did the same thing to another '99 I bought, same deal, feels like i installed a brand new mount.
    Takes all of 5 minutes to do, no lift or jacking involved.
