I just wanted to say how refreshing it is to hear someone actually play a respectable cover of this song. Everyone elses covers seem to laze-out because they wont or cannot strum their guitar correctly. IT is very tricky to play and this is a fantastic rendition, well done mate!
The backing tracks and slowdowns are very helpful! It makes a world of difference to be able to break down the song to learn and then piece it back together working your way back to full speed. Definitely keep those tools! They are very useful and appreciated! I feel like it provides a more solid end result when you are aware of all the details and can choose to pay attention to them or to exclude them if needed when you're learning.
mate, i have been learning the guitar for just a year and I have viewed loads of different song lessons on youtube but yours is far and away the best lesson I have ever seen. Absolutely brilliant!! Very clear instruction, great visuals on the chords AND you talk through the strumming patern, which i always find is the most difficult bit to deduce when trying to learn a new song. Really, really good work!
Thx for breaking down the rhythm so accurately! From listening I was completely at a loss how to play this. For my taste, what you do here is absolutely sufficient. I personally don't need backing tracks; just a proper (and your's is brilliant) explanation how to do things.
Thank you so much for this lesson, I've listened to this song so many times since I downloaded it yesterday. The ease of this lesson means, though I don't have my guitar with me at the moment, I know all the chords and the strumming patterns and I'm confident that I can play it when I get her back. Thanks man, really appreciate it
Only just stumbled across this video lesson and all I can think to say is AWESOME!! Definitely gonna give this a try now, and will be checking out your other lessons. Thanks so much.
Dude absolutely awesome video! Probably one of the best i have watched on UA-cam (and considering I have done all of my learning through internet sources thats quite an impressive commendation). Excellent additional sources, brilliant backing track truly making the whole experience that little bit rewarding when you get it right! Keep it up!
Good job. I like the slow down. I don't believe that it hurts more advanced players and for novices like myself it really helps get the strum patterns.and little accidentals thrown in there.
just discovered you and i LOVE your channel. i've always struggled with strum patterns, but you've made it so easy. i have never had anyone teach with such effective results, you are amazing. Oh and just so you know: the little blurb over your head says its supposed to be played without a capo, but in the video for the song the guitarist has a capo on five just like you. just thought you'd like to know that you're doing it right ^__^
I really appreciate the backing track. I think it's really necessary for a song like this. Now I just need to be able to build up my speed to play along with it. :)
Awww Andy I'm a little bit in love with you. I love it when I type in a guitar tut and Nail guitar has one!!! Cuz then I know I'm gonna Nail it (ha see what I did there!) Love ur tutorials and you xxxxx
I like your stile of teaching. but i would have loved to hear you actually playing it and singing it. But really, you have the talent of teaching, i can see, others think the same way about you! Thanx
I'm not sure if you mentioned this, because I didn't watch all the way through... but I was wondering two things. 1.) What key is your version in and 2.) is it in the same key that Mumford and sons play it in? Probably a stupid question but I was just wondering. Great and thorough lesson from what I saw.
@133Chadbird It looks like a Tanglewood TW45-DLX-B. It is a Super Folk body. I have the Tanglewood TFA which is an Orchestra Body. Both of those body styles are smaller and thinner waisted than a dreadnought. I like the Cedar topped Tanglewoods.
have you watched the video of them in the library? it shows that he tunes different as well. I think your already a half step down as well. looks to me like he tunes the second string up a half step as to free up fingers. lemme know what you think. Love this song. :)
Backing tracks are very helpful, only one thing, could you make them much, much louder please because i dont have speakers for my laptop and trying to hear it is difficult when im banging away on my guitar! Thanks for the great tutorial, any chance of a "Roll Away Your Stone" tutorial also by Mumford!
MORE MUMFORD AND SONS LESSONS PLEASEE!!!! their great! really helped me, but would be absolutely awesome if you could do the cave or white blank page??, Many thankss!!!
I believe he means root strums, which every chord has one of. The root of D is your d string, the root of A is your a string, so on and so forth. the root of F however is the low E string, becasue it ,makes the note F
I have got a question about something that is driving me nuts trying to figure out in this song. How does he play that mute sounding strumming on the Am chord at the very start of the intro which is also done for the verse when he is singing on the Am aswell? I would me very gratefull if u could get back to me and help me with this one.thanks for the lesson
hi, just one question.. when you do the C cord and do that g hammer down and d hammer down, does the strumming pattern change a little there to incorporate it? or do i just need to practice lol.
I like your style :) I would appreciate your take on Jose Gonzalis heartbeats by the Knives I have tried working from tab but as a lefty prefer to watch and learn Peace Out
@GIRLMADEINNY use a biro (ball point pen) and an rubber band. put the pen on the strings, and wrap the rubber band at the top twice. then pull it down on the back of the neck and attach it to the bottom of the pen. make sure it's tight.

Your the only good "how to play" tutorial guys on UA-cam.
Keep it up!
Mumford and sons use an alternate tuning on their guitar... it'd be nice if you did a video on that...

Best Guitar Lesson & Material on UA-cam.

We really liked your clip. You must make many more
@mitzag Yes the 'bass note' is the lowest pitched note in the chord. Think of it like 'bass guitar'. Have fun learning the song! A~
That's the best tutorial I've seen. Thank you so much.
Good job. I like the slow down. I don't believe that it hurts more advanced players and for novices like myself it really helps get the strum patterns.and little accidentals thrown in there.
Whoa, how come I have not found this guy earlier... Great lesson that is well thought out and presented...

I have the exact same guitar! Really nice crisp sound!
best guitar tutorial ever.
I really appreciate the backing track. I think it's really necessary for a song like this. Now I just need to be able to build up my speed to play along with it. :)
This is fantastic. I actually used to to figure out a pretty comprehensive tab for the ukulele- not quite the same but still pretty good! Thank you :)
Man, I wish I had that guitar. Mine just broke...long story but I am definitely going to save up my pennies for that guitar! Beautiful just beautiful!

Thanks a lot !! really helped me, you just explained everythink perfectly; in a very good tempo so it's easy to follow ;)
In the actual music video you can see that he does actually have a cappo on. Have a look though. I pretty sure it's there, but just check
do you also do vocals?
cause that would be SWEEEET.
AWH I love your accent.
Great tutorial also!
@133Chadbird Link in the description for all the guitar gear I use. A~
bass strum is just playing the top 2 or 3 strings, the low ones ( E, A and D ) which gives it the low bass-like sound
Hey this was great thanks!
wow really good well broken down thanks :D
Hey man, can you tell me what kind of guitar you're playing in this lesson? Make and model... it's great looking
Thanks so much!
I have got a question about something that is driving me nuts trying to figure out in this song. hey this is a great lesson thanks, but Quick Question, Why do you have you kaypo on the fifth fret? Is you guitar turned diffrent?
@CharliePutz
No, it's always played with a capo on 5th; Marcus can't really sing that low otherwise.
this is a great lesson, but why do you have the Kaypo on the fifth fret?
@LosAdasTricks It sounds just fine if you just use quick down strokes for that part then go back to the original strumming pattern.
what guitar are you playing love its tone
hi, just one question.. when you do the C cord and do that g hammer down and d hammer down, does the strumming pattern change a little there to incorporate it? or do i just need to practice lol.
Thanks bud. Legend
Hey you should do the Cave by mumford and sons also..that would be fantastic thanks.
I like your style :) I would appreciate your take on Jose Gonzalis heartbeats by the Knives I have tried working from tab but as a lefty prefer to watch and learn
Peace Out
this is awesome.
This was really helpful! Thank you ^_^
YES!
Does the strumming change on the little run you play with the C? It feels like it does...
@GIRLMADEINNY use a biro (ball point pen) and an rubber band. put the pen on the strings, and wrap the rubber band at the top twice. then pull it down on the back of the neck and attach it to the bottom of the pen. make sure it's tight.
thanks that helped a lot!
Dude, thanks so much!
