"Proud" Ukrainians have been bombing Donbass since 2014. Killed 25,000 women and kids. Only after Ukaine massed 100,000 troops on Donbass boarder for an invasion, Russia stepped in. That's how it started. Wonder if her kids know that.

Ukraine was antisemitic as shit back in the USSR days. That's why tons of Jews left for the USA and Israel. Mila's family left (and my family as well). Wasn't much better in Russia, but still not as bad as Ukraine. I don't think it's necessarily the same nowadays, seeing as how the elected a Jewish President, but it sucked back then. I think watching your home country get blown to bits for no reason can change a few things, so I understand Mila suddenly taking more pride in where she came from. My relatives are going through a similar thing.

I’m so happy she came a long way in embracing her homeland. It used to hurt my feelings when she said she didn’t care about Crimea and stuff. But Ukraine has been oppressed for so long and the Ukrainian language was banned for around 90 years or more so it’s no wonder people got ostracized from Ukrainian culture in the process. Plus Russia is bombing Holocaust memorial sites and the President of Ukraine is Jewish. Hasidic Judaism originated in Ukraine and Hitler didn’t consider Ukrainians white nor does Putin consider them human. It’s just so hard to stand by and say nothing.
Now there’s a bunch of stories of civilians being bombed and Russian soldiers occupying peoples’ houses and raping girls and women and children escaping without their parents.
It’s both Ukrainophobia and anti-Senitism all over again. Plus war crimes. :( They’ve fought for their freedom as a nation and they’re some of the strongest people. That’s why it’s important to embrace culture and also to embrace peace.

Also I remember how she said she felt nothing, when she visited Ukraine. Also I remember how she said she will never came back in Ukraine, because she is American. Also I remember how Ukrainian politician insulted her with Jewish slur.
That was before the war, of course. Before Ukrainian nationality became prestigious nationality. But, stop, she is not Ukrainian, is she? I thought she is Jewish.

@@itoakko Yeah, so? USSR was a huge federative state; that means, it included 16 republics, every of which had broad powers in domestic politics. USSR was really different from republic to republic. That was not, like, one big-big unified country, that was kinda separative. And Mila Kunis is from Ukrainian SSR, important note, from the western Ukraine. The fact that anti-Semitism flourished in western Ukraine has never been a secret. During the World War 2, there were formed most of organizations of Ukrainian nazis, and were killed most of the total 1,6 million jews-victims in Ukraine.
Howewer, my previous comment wasnt really about all this stuff, Ukraine, SSSR and else. And i am not judging Mila, she can relate herself to any nationality. That just... That seems like she thinks, that, calling herself a Ukrainian, she earns more points.

It's complicated. My mother went through similar emotions. Like Mila, she was born and raised in Ukraine and she is Jewish. She came to the USA as a refugee (in the 70s, earlier than Mila). They were absolutely treated like shit in Ukraine, and Russians were actually better to Jews back then. Not saying it was great in Russia, of course. Despite having lived in Ukraine for generations, their passports literally said "Jewish" for "nationality," not "Ukrainian." So yeah, part of the reason they came to the USA, like many others, was because of the intolerance. My mom never had any interest in returning to visit Ukraine/Russia; her new home was in the USA, which she liked far more. She lost whatever connection she had with the country. The same for her siblings and parents. It has changed with the war, however. She spent her youth in this country and now she's seeing pictures and videos of it getting blown to pieces. Now she's regretting never taking us to visit her home country, while it was still safe and not in ruins. And seeing Zelenskyy, their President (and a Jew), leading and fighting for the country... this kind of stuff shakes things up in a person. So yeah, my mom and her family are going through a similar kind of change as Mila. They're not calling themselves "Ukrainian" or anything, but I don't think Mila is necessarily being fake here. Again, this stuff is complicated.

And since it had been part of the USSR it was easier to say that she came from Russia rather than to go into a half hour explanation of geography and politics at such a young age. Now everyone knows. It’s different. Interestingly Russia/ Putin claim part of their territory as Russian. Now part of Ukraine is back to being part of Russia. Insane!

Soviets are bloody criminals. Food genocides in 1932-1933. Russians are not Slavics. The blood of Slavics, Slavic DNA is to look for, to be found in Ukraine, Slovenia, Horvathia, other neighboring countries, not Russia. If speak in short, Russians are Finnish Hungarian tribes, plus Tartars, Mongoloid blood, Altai mountains peoples blood. In short, Europeoid Russians are mostly Finnish. They look different in phenotype to Ukrainians. Most Ukrainians are brunettes with brown or green eyes, blue-eyed people are often tan in Ukraine, dark thick brows. Unlike Russia.
