WWI Aircraft: Sopwith Camel
Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 вер 2024
- The British Sopwith Camel was developed by the Sopwith Aviation Company as a successor to the Sopwith pup, which had become outpaced by the new German fighters that emerged in the skies.
While they looked the same in appearance, the Camel was more difficult to handle and dangerous to fly.

What Sopwith Camel variant is your favourite and why?
i love your amazing videos
Simple History, I think the trench one because it can stop troops from having the advantage.
tru
The Trench variant one seemed very effective.
Simple History trench fighter
When I was young I thought that the circles on the plane were bull's eyes for the enemy to shoot
Same here
Same
That's the problem, to the enemy, They Are 0_0
is that beef testorone as your pfp
Ah thats where the entente messed up a bit. I think they wanted the roundels of their aircraft to use the same design but with each nations national colours. If I was a German I’d aim for that anyway
The Fokker DR.I will be the next plane in the series as voted by you
@Cheerio Fujisaki 2020 :-)
Yeah I know this little French place, we could bring some girls-
WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT GIRLS?!? THIS IS AN AIR BATTLE!
Could you do a video about the Korean War? It's a very underrepresented war.
Jesse Lopez being a Korean, I'd rly like that
its not over yet

Honestly, I only know of Sopwith Camel thanks to my dad who's had quite a collection of Biggless books by W.E. Johns

May you please do a simple history on the Japanese WWII Kamikaze. I'm doing a project on them for school and I used your video on the gallipoli campaign as a source for my project. It was very helpful!
+Bulbasaur Boi WW2 strategies
Come on, DICE, these are too OP against infantry, don't nerf the support class, nerf these instead...
JPAW Sakura Either: Get on a stationary AA gun, or get the artillery truck with the AA upgrade, not OP, you must need to do something about it rather than continuing to repeatedly die.
Snipers are always covering AA turrets. DICE could have made BF1 so much better.
Every time I do that I just get sniped by those darts or a torpedo bomber.
JPAW Sakura Hence the artillery truck, good placement and you'll kill them easily, that's coming from a rank 20 pilot
As dice later replies NO xD
Sopwith Camel: the ancestor to the Hawker Hurricane, as the company that built it later became Hawker Engineering
The Sopwith Pup was an awesome vehicle too.
Volunteering at the Brooklands museum is great. To get up close and work with some of these great planes is something special
What is your favourite plane there?
Simple History the camel is in my top 5 but I prefer the vc10 as we get to show people the cockpit and I'm learning to get my personal pilots license so it's second nature. The vc10 is also a substantial creation that came from weighbridge aircraft manufactures and it has shaped a path for modern aviation in its own way
Simple History also the full vc10 that we have used to belong to the sultan of Oman. Brooklands also has another vc10 fuselage at the museum. And a vc10 supa down at dunsfold aerodrome
+Joe Wilson I also recommend Duxford
Simple History great thank you. Today I'm visiting the mosquito museum. To see a special variant of the mosquito plane. It's got a Molins gun inside it.
1:54 the sopwith camel is going like 1(mph).
Could you do the Spitfire and the D. 520 next ? Thank you ! :-)
William short Film I think they should stick with world war 1 at the moment
Loved the video thank you for making such good videos
0:57 YES he said aluminum correctly
Can't wait for that Fokker Dr.I video. I am still pretty excited for when it happens.
All my life, I thought these were called "Southwest Camels." No wonder I could never find any information about them.
Southwest camel sounds like a subspecies of camel
Trivia: It gave the name to a 60's rock band called Sopwith Camel. Also an actual character in Jim Henson's famous Muppet Show was called Sopwith the Camel. An actual camel named Sopwith. :)
Btw it was better than the Fokker Dr.1 . Few of those were made and they were never very popular among the pilots. They had a short frontline service and replaced by the far better Fokker DVII's.
You should talk about the WWI German artillery cannons, like the 75mm
Soup with camel...
"How we cheered when they spun. How we shouted when they dived. How we applauded when one chap got sliced in half by his own propeller." -- Lt George (Blackadder Goes Forth)
Lol
@@Christopher-N YAPO Y QUE ME INPORTA
My dad once bought me a Sopwith Camel model from the aviation museum in Washington D.C. Unfortunately, some kid I knew dropped it, and the wings came apart, and the propeller broke.
@Simple History can you please do a video on the Spanish Civil War? It's a really interesting subject because of all the different factions fighting

Hey Simple History, could you try the Nieuport 28 it wasn't as mass produced as others, but it was the first fighter the US flew in France. Among them was my great Grandfather, i don't know much about him and the plane he flew is obscure but a video about it would be a good tribute to the terrific little plane.
I told a AP History teacher about your channel and he loved it

I still chuckle when I hear Fokker
T.F.1- Trench Fighter because I know the struggle they had on some to stand up and fire the gun, but this one has a lower gun with easy axis.

I know this may be a very sensitive and very brutal topic to talk about in your videos.
But think you can talk about the cases of Shellshock? I have seen videos that are just hard to watch and just sad.
since your videos are educational, maybe you can talk about it to the people on how even the solders that survive are now suffering from trauma and depression.
Thank you.
amaaaaaazing video!
Great video guys, keep it up!
Will you do a simillar video on a battleship?
The Fokker Dr I was built in response to the Sopwith Tripe, a triplane version of the Camel
Yes the triplane, that entered service before the camel first flew was a verson onf te camel?!?!
It was based on the pup
Awesome vid. I have to start watching you guys more; I'm a history buff.
This Video Proves that it's not the machine, its the man behind the machine who makes it an effective weapon!
+Captain23rd Gaming very true. An effective pilot could take advantage of the fast right turn where as a rookie may meet his death from it
I like the experimental
The british military was the most advanced during ww1, but there tactics were horribly shit.
Mike Oxlong no, the German army was
Samuel J. Stuhlinger Well, the British had tanks and superior warships.
Debatable, the British equipment was better ( discluding artillery), the british EF were better trained and most had past war experiences, the only things germany had better of was tactics, trenches and artillery. But the soldiers themselves were more advanced in fighting. The generals and tactics was the main reason a hell of a lot of british died and fucked up. But I'd say british have a slight edge over the germans.
+Samuel J. Stuhlinger SMLE > gewher 98 in all situations but long range
But that all changed in ww2
I love the comic night fighter
it would be so cool if you could do a video on czar bomba
