I see in your Chrome disk there is an out-of-place, extra star just below the Big Dipper's handle. I'm an amateur astronomer since 1975, and such obvious things jump out for me. ;)
Back in the late '90s I built an all-sky camera that took full hemisphere images of the night sky on medium format slide film. Then I built a projector that used the same lens to project those images inside a portable planetarium I carried around to schools. You could see a richly detailed milky way in natural color (yellowish and bluish) with glowing red nabulae. The field of view was actually 200 degrees, meaning that even a bit of a distance below the horizon was captured, showing the surrounding landscape.
I had a variety of images, including from Australia and from Arizona during the close approach of comet Hyakutake, whose tail stretched almost halfway across the sky (76 degrees long.)
Think there are a few errors/flaws.
One I think is an issue from the manufacturer but it’s so small you have to be looking for it. Small enough to where my 2 YO doesn’t seem to care…

So with the exception of the chrome disk are the homestar and ds1 disks interchangeable?
Been using the pococo projector for my daughters night light and want to upgrade to something better.
No. You can order disks from DS for either projector the the disk are different sizes.
I tried putting disks I had for my Sega in the DS1, the projection looked fine but it wouldn’t spin…
@@wompdaddy4891thanks for the quick response. Same boat as you, kiddy loves what she got now but obviously the homester, fx and this are a lot better. These work brilliantly at night times and it has made bed times a lot easier, especially since the little one at that age now where she doesn’t want to go bed anymore. Hoping when she’s older she remembers the quality of the projector I bought her 😂
First fair review I feel like. 1 month later…I have a few questions if you could be so kind:
any changes in your thoughts? How’s the sound(s)? Sleepable? Lastly, photos on the website almost make it seem like there’s a definite beam coming from the projector. Seems like it’s not really like that? Does the star count make it too bright for sleep?
Bedtime is why we have these for the kids. What we do is turn it on and read bedtime stories with a flashlight and the stars provide enough room where I can walk out without tripping on toys. Sound isn’t loud but we also usually have a sound machine or fan going so the projectors not noticeable. Also the bulb has a dimmer if you think it’s too bright not to mention a sleep timer.

Let me know what you think! Admittedly it’s a bit excessive but when my babies are picking out my nursing home hopefully they’ll remember their planetarium was top of the line and put me in a nice one. 😂

Why is the night light function no longer available?
The usual, get less for the same amount of money. Still very happy with it. Use it every night, daughter loves it…

Thanks for the review, one question though, you have mentioned that normal DS1 discs will work in the FLUX but the chrome DS1 discs wont. Why is that? Is it because they wont fit physically in the FLUX or they do fit but wont project any light or wont focus? I need to know, cheers
The Flux disk and the DS1 disk are different sizes. The flux disk in the DS1 will project but not spin, smaller disk. Haven’t tried the reverse.
To be honest, we initially got the projector we got a bunch of disks. Primarily though we just stick with the chrome. The others are cool but not as cool as the chrome disks, stars almost look real…
@@wompdaddy4891 thanks for the reply, appreciate it! Ok discs being different sizes makes sense now, with DS1 discs being bigger. May I ask you this then, could you measure and tell me the exact diameter of the chrome DS1 disc? That should help me a lot!
you mentioned using in child room for sleep . how is the noise decibel?
My kids also sleep with a sound machine so you can’t tell.
Even without the sound machine it’s very quiet
I believe the Flux can only be left on for max 60 mins before it turns off? is this correct?
Think it’s at least 2 hours but I almost never turn it on without the sleep timer.

@@wompdaddy4891 I'm saying that I wouldn't be including in my review, a comparison to an Xbox when deciding what to get for my kids. I'd be comparing it to another projector.

Not as bad as you’d expect. Chrome disks are probably the best on the market for your average person…
It is. However with the resolution chrome discs offer you have to be in full focus to actually see all those stars. So on normal ceiling (99.9999% of ceilings in the world...) sharp image is limited.
@@The_Unobtainium I guess my 2 year old doesn’t have as high of standards. For what I’m using it for it exceeds my needs.
If the most accurate image possible is the goal and you don’t have a university’s budget, what would be a better product out there?

Astronomers use field flatteners for this. Maybe DS could come up with some adapter and field flattener? Will be pricey, but it would solve the issue. @@The_Unobtainium
