- We have owned our Touareg for 2.5 years. I went through all of my service records and tallied up how much it has cost me.

Just chiming back in. I bought one in 2020 during the pandemic:
I’ve owned mine for almost four years and no problems.
I've added a winch mount from eurowise and euro wise off road control arms. I have the 12K Apex winch with synthetic rope.
I've done it basic upgrades to headlight bulbs and I added SICK LED foglights and interior LED bright white daylight bulbs 6500kw.
The maintenance I did was the full timing and water pump and the spark plugs coils oil and filter and all new fluids and new tires 265/65R/18 Pirelli All Terrain Scorpion Plus.
I also added the redarc brake controller and the OEM hitch I pulled off a junkyard touareg for $100 with all the parts and grabbed comfort module, ecu, lights, etc while I was at it! I get ~18mpg highway, 13 mpg in city. It's awesome and has been hitting trails and highways from British Columbia to California!!! I bought with 80K miles and now it's at 135K miles!!!!!
NO ISSUES. I upgraded the brakes as well. I decided to wait on the bigger wheels and tires and the eurowise drop and lift because I've had no issues with terrain.
I replaced the hatch struts and the buttons inside and it’s like brand new. My interior was awesome and the woman who garaged it only put ONE oil change worth of miles on it a year. She had impeccable service history from VW. San Jose touaregs are the best!! I even found the spacers for the rounded stock carrier bars for my audi S4 snowboard attachments. $13 for OEM part. I’m eyeing 17” Wheels for some fat KO2 mud terrains for summer. I added car play and had a full inspection by VW and nothing that I can’t do myself. Just takes time and patience. I have an audi s4 six speed for my daily ripper… so I can afford a weekend or two off mountain and in city
Everything works though, windows roll up and down with the key, and the automatic electronic keyless entry works all over too! The Rear locking diff works, the air suspension works perfectly, the electronic dampening works perfect. The hill assist works. The air compressor under the seat works. The garage opener works. The liquor bottle chiller in the glove box works. Ultimate off road and city sleeper!
NEXT UP: Adding a secondary battery and a sleek JL audio 10w6 into the left side area in the trunk so it'll preserve the space and feel factory.
The bad: I was keyed in Vancouver BC, probably with a knife, down the whole driver side so I need to fix that.
I have a 2006 v8 and I'm the original owner. It's been the best vehicle ever. It looks and drives like new. I have only done general maintenance since the beginning and I drive it every day. These vehicles are under valued and will go anywhere. I live in las Vegas and recently drove it on rough terrain in the middle of the desert in over 105 degree temps with zero issues. I could buy a new vehicle but why would I. There is nothing better out there than the treg...
It always sounds fun to buy something brand new and to keep it for a long time. Unfortunately the longest I've had a car is 2.5 years. haha

My 2004 V6 Touareg I bought a little over a year ago for $2700...with 110,000 miles, and all functionality (everything works). The more I drove it, the more money I was willing to invest in it. I have not seen one other Touareg on the roads here in Hawaii in the 13 months I've had her. Replaced alot of stuff (headliner- I recovered it myself, one coil went out, rear window &tailgate struts, blower motor, battery, front end brake pads, new stereo, some other little things like wheel bolt covers, wiper blades etc. But like the featured Touareg, mine has never had left me stranded or otherwise out of service. For me, this suv has been as reliable as any vehicle I've ever owned...actually the best one ever...I really think that has to do with the fact that my T-reg was made on a Wednesday...

The $942 timing belt service is good for 100k miles. So you should spread that cost out (or only factor in half of it).
We won't talk about the $600 for the oil pan.
$300 + for an alignment and rubber hose is too much.
Not sure insurance and registration should be grouped in with maintenance.
It has been a reliable workhorse for you. Let's hope the diesel is just as good to you

I did the timing belt my job myself. If you leave the waterpump alone it can be done in 2 hours.

The first generation V8s are the best of the bunch. The V6 are about the same. The V10 TDIs have repairs that require the engine out.
When you run into bad cats or a bad front diff these things go in the garbage can.
Way more reliable than mine. Mine was in a forest fire and written off in an accident before I bought it three years ago
Tons of vacuum leaks and rubber bushings going (likely heat damaged from the fire), had to replace the oil pan, driveshaft, valve body, blower motor, and ignition coils. I’m about $12,000 deep in mine. Still has some small issues that I’m trying to hammer out.

GOLDEN RULE - accident damage might be repairable but if a vehicle has been burned it's beyond hope. ALWAYS.
I have a 2008 v6 with 166k miles since new only thing its needed is valve cover gasket plugs coils an tires brakes. Runs like new.
It's definitely a money pit!!! I know all about it!!! I do love this SUV though.
My TCO (excluding fuel) for 2005 V8 Touareg: $92,200. over 16.5 years and 130K miles. If you could DIY the maintenance, cut costs by 60%. So $70K. You're Welcome Volkswagen AG and Dealerships. Love the Treg, btw, but financially it has been a huge drain of my financial resources. A Romanian ex-girlfriend cost me much, much more though, and Treg is 🙏🙏 still with me.
I got rid of my V8 for that same reason. Loved it but loved to drink. The Touareg Tdi i have now does a lot better.
@@spottedeuros1529 I'm going to check out a 2005 V8 Treg in the morning. 72k miles, air suspension..that's all I know. It's currently being reconditioned at a dealer so I won't be able to drive it, but I can check out it's interior and exterior condition. You have me hooked on Touaregs!

Every car has maintenance®istration that is making it equal so no too bad, take depreciation on new car of that category...this is not bad...
I just bought myself Touareg 3.2 vr6 2003, it's got few broken things, i repair everything myself, but for normal non-mechanic person these repairs would cost fortune

I’ve always loved and wanted one of these so cool over engineered like the Germans do but to get the level of tech and off road capabilities they offer for 6k is sweet! Like everything if you get a good one to start save yourself headaches! Do you have to take them to a VW specialist or can most shops do most things?? I work on my stuff a lot also at I looking at the space shuttle or a model T? Lol I work at a parts place gots to see if we carry anything for these before I commit(I get cost) so maybe save me some scratch

update: i bought an 08 in december. so far aside from a pcv change it’s been trouble free
I would change the oil every 5k, especially if towing.
I would change it every 500 miles and still would be thinking this is a great car

@@spottedeuros1529 Did you use any gas? Insurance which is dependent on the coverage selected in your analysis could be 500 or 3000 per year. That is a large delta. That should not be a factor in the cost of ownership if you are trying to show what it cost to own. Regards.

@@spottedeuros1529 If you didn't spend any money on gas. Just for future videos that others can compare. It is good that others see what items cost and maybe in the future be more specific (differential fluids, front or rear), transmission (oil/filter/gasket/seals) what you did and don't forget about the transfer case fluids. Good that you got a better kit from ECS Tuning. I had to pull mine apart because the guy put some cheap roller, pully and WP inside. Just wanted to have piece of mind. Good luck.
So I have a question about the compass in the clock if you are still active on UA-cam or have the car. Does the compass only come on when the car is on or is there a button you have to press to make it display?
Not sure, the clock and compass always was a little funky.
Hi Everybody I bought an identical Tuareg at 285 miles kilometer on the clock 6 years ago for 4 thousand Canadian dollars returned January 2021 at 467 miles kilometers on the clock replace cam tenteur + timing belt water pump fan of ventilations 2 front suspension table and 2 shock absorbers redo the brakes 2 times and change a front electric window motor .... still rolls like a ball starts at the quart of turn at minus 30 celsius Quebec Canada.... Who Say Better ?

I have had good luck with the Touaregs I have owned. I would start with the Touareg 2 and up.
I have 2005 v8 72,000 miles for $6500.
Pls answer me do I get this or a v8 fsi face lift pls tell me I need help..

That's crazy. The government pushing all V8s away.
Aint nothing, in denmark we pay 1700$ a year for these type of engines. But there’s no rules against cargo ships and production waste, becouse govorment makes too much money of them...
Ok maybe NZ not so bad. Same to register a 600cc smart car as a supercharged falcon.
$10k for 2.5 years of owning a luxury vehicle that can take you off road.
You cannot buy anything that does that for you for $10k.
I am thinking about getting one, I go hiking a lot and I need to go on bad terrain for good trailheads.
Not crazy Moab style but still ... also it has space. The only other one I am thinking of is a Q5 but that is not as capable off road.
