  • Join me as I visit the National Museum of the Republic of Kazakhstan, located in the capital Astana. Built in 2014, and made up of blue glass and white marble, it depicts Kazakhstan's history and culture from prehistoric times to the present.
Among the museum's priceless treasures is the world famous 'Golden Man' - the remains of what is believed to be a Saka (Scythian) prince of about 16-18 years old dressed in a funeral suit decorated in gold and buried with full warrior equipment and assorted funerary goods, including 4,000 gold ornaments. The remains were discovered in 1969 in Issyk Kurgan, an ancient burial site situated in eastern Scythia just north of Sogdiana. The site is believed to date back to approximately 1000 BC.
'Golden Man' has become one of the symbols of modern Kazakhstan, and a his likeness crowns the Independence Monument on the central square of Almaty.
Ok, now that we know the basics, let's see 'Golden Man' in person. Vamos!
