si Bongkukaye dont talk about the past, talk about it now. What kinds of car are the most peoples driving in the US ? And where is that product from ? And i do confirm American educated also.
si Bongkukaye lol Europe at that time was rich by plundering Africa and the world at that time Asia and Africa was suffering from poverty and had to think for bread rather than inventions when you look at the past India and China was rich enough to 50% of world GDP. No wonder where did those resources go but when you look further past the Indus had made sewer system and Vedas had explanation of a flying craft (vimaan) at that time they were rich and had more to think rather than bread. Whenever civilizations had wealth they brought scientific advancements.
Reasons we study hard or are intelligent 1. We wanna repay our parents 2. We don't want to get beaten by our parents by getting B+ 3. Many Asian students don't party every Saturday or whatever 4. Everything you learn in 10th or 11th grade We learn that in 7th-8th grade
It's just we Asians want to repay our parents with good grades to show respect and gratitude for their sacrifices for us. They provide food, clothes, education and shelter for us and in return we study and have good grades. In Western culture children's mindset is that because those are the parents responsibility they don't respect or appreciate what their parents provide for them, so they don't even bother trying to have good grades as a reward for their parents sacrifices. We're not smarter we're just more motivated.
Bimbo Battung Agreed. I also feel the same way. Its just our duty to perform well or the very least perform to the best of our abilities even if it is not academia.
Bimbo Battung , well said. Asian parents want their kids to do well in education to have a good future. Asian kids try hard in school to show respect for their parents.

Myth 2: "Their parents force them, they live a miserable life." Fact: "Their parents support them all the time. Myth 3: "They just memorise it. They never learn anything." Fact: "Asian like to analyse and devise the best way to learn and ace grade. It is foolish to believe in a person who obtained A grade without any understanding."
Idk much about the Chinese, but I guess those myths have come from India's 11th-12th graders who do exactly those things to crack JEE or other competitive exams. Ofc they don't cheat or abuse the system.
@Argh D @Argh D I am not really sure about low cost. If that were to be true, I don't think the avg Indian annual income would be almost twice of that of a white in the US. Also, given that the biggest tech companies in the US are managed by Indians and are dominated with Asians just displays the fact that we prioritize STEM above other subjects. No one race is genetically or biologically better than the other. All it boils down to are your priorities. Its true India has many problems and university education system is one of the worst in my own honest opinion, but I think it's too extreme to say that we come to the US to escape hardships. It's false. We just come to the US because of its education system. I am sorry if that pisses you off. Also, US would crumble if somehow all the Indians working in the US were to stop and go back! Trust me.
@Argh D Again, your facts are wrong. Please do check stats and then tell me how many Indians are factory line workers. Also US is developed not by whites.. but a major factor in US's development is H1B itself. EU is developed?? Are you kidding me? These regions are only rich because of their lower population and the fact that they were colonisers!. UK is rich only because of India. Indians dominate the IT department in the US. That's a fact. This is not factory line work my friend. Here us another fun fact for you. India and China constantly were the top 2 economies in the world before the Industrial Revolution since the last 1600 years. Go Google it before rebutting this. And it's only inevitable that these two countries would soon take their original spots. You can even search Google why this is inevitable. You are living in a bubble my friend.
Parents have to invest in their kids. My parents did nothing for us. I had pretention. I could draw and paint good. I could have done alot. I was great at math, is was easy for me. When my brother tried to go into the army my dad told him to make a low score so he wouldn't have a hard job. What kind of parenting is that? Buy us a guitar or piano and get us lessons. Everything you learn gives you confidence. My parents taught me nothing. I did go to college but the degree was not what I wanted it was what my dad wanted after a year and a half I quit. I wanted to be a math teacher or be an artist. I do feel like my life was wasted. Invest in your kids.
As an Asian I don’t quite agree with the parent part. I think they should be fixed a little bit so they won’t think their kids as their own face-earning machines. At least myself and a lot kids around me feel this way. I just think even if they’re supporting, they don’t really understand what their kids want. Most of them are just making their kids do what they think the kids want, but no the kids’ true wills. Very wise parents exist but only take a small percentage. Otherwise your comment is great. I’m exceptional tho. When all my Asian friends are working hard trying to get better grades I’m trying my best to work as less hard as possible so I can have more time to play video games

Generally, the Asians from wealthy families are also very responsible and hardworking, not withstanding that their family is rich.
BS Asians have been conditioned to study harder and put in more work or else they get an ass whooping from their parents. That's why for most, their life experiences are not that entertaining or interesting. Very seldom do I come across an Asian with an interesting story about their life.
I don't know about other Countries but in India and for myself personally, Indian parents are very much devoted towards the studies of their children. I still remember my mom used to sit with me and help me and teach me everything after school. This kind of devotion helps child a lot and encourage him to do better.
As a preschool educator, you already know which kids in your classroom are going to be successful. The parents that give a shit will have successful kids. Whatever color they are.
Really? My parents don't give a damn about education but I still topped my class. I'm Chinese and have had enough of these orange preschool teachers saying anyone can succeed as long as you have good parents. That's just not the case. When I was a baby, my parents literally didn't care but that was later on when they did.
Smartness depends on the situation, and judging it largely depends on the perspective... As an Indian I can say the excellence of Indian students are largely because of their affection towards their mother and father.
Parents are the first teachers. Most Asian parents apparently instill in their children to respect education and to value their teacher. On the other hand, perhaps most American parents encourage their children to respect social status, sports, and other superficialities of a society that dispenses jobs on whom you know instead of what you know.
"Maths heavy class like calculus" We Indians are shoved upon by the schools to study calculus in class 11. We start algebra in class 5 and trigonometry in 9. Unnecessary burden. I got 93% in both my boards examinations and got in a college which would accept 85% students as well but 93% serves my family better. Academics marks and qualifications are given much more importance in India and China than in other countries . It's not fear though, we just want to make our parents proud.

My perosnal experience is that people who can speak or understand 2+ language appear to be relatively or remotely much smarter than people who can speak only one languages. I don't know why. It's just they way how it works around me. Most Asian kids can speak or understand 2+ languages. In the community where I grew up, it is quite usual that kids can speak 2++ language fluently and understand 4++ languages. ORZ. Not only Asian kids, European kids (1st gen immigrants) are very smart. It just no one mention it.

We Asian are more family oriented so family is included in everything including the decision to choose a degree. Here in the US most people are individualistic and once 18 they are gone where in our culture we never leave our parents.
Asians are pretty good in math because the way their parents taught them also the Asian teachers who taught their students. I am Asian and we studied really hard since very young age, the complex math that you get here in University in western world we usually already learned them since middle to high school. Ethan Lee Interesting reactions you are getting here... Speaking as a White parent of highly accomplished (White) kids, I can tell you that White parents, too, try to “make” their kids study-quite enthusiastically, at times, but it really doesn’t work well most of the time The fact that more Asian parents seem successful at “making” their kids study, in and of itself, is an interesting phenomenon.

We looked the American syllabus and Indian Syllabus, we thought Americans were very lucky that they just learn way too easy things and return to home and play.We learn for exams before 1-2 weeks, no matter how much study holidays they give to me. For me, History is extremely tougher than tough, I have to write like 3 A4 sheets. What I am guessing is when we learn very hard things, we can be very intelligent(I was just sharing my life in education.)

I feel slightly offended after reading all these comments. I'm a Korean student, and I've lived in Korea for a good while. Sure, my mom DOES push me a lot in grades, but let's be honest: I really enjoy seeing how I improve and become better over time to time in my studies. It feel accomplishment and pride for myself, along with self confidence. Plus, a lot of people keep on saying that Asians lack creativity. No, I disagree with that. Some Asians come up with brilliant ideas and personally I really love drawing and expanding the way I think. One of my strengths is creativity. It actually helps me with learning, I like to express my thoughts in drawings and they help me remember in a fun way. Most of all, I think there are a lot of definitions to "smart". I am good at academics, but I'm sometimes rather shy and I have a hard time trying to express myself. I have stage fright. I think too much about how others will see me. I envy those who are good with words and persuading others, make quick decisions in a crisis, and those who can keep cool and take the lead, without making anyone offended. To me, those people are amazingly smart and intelligent people that I should admire and learn from.
Yoonji Park Lack of creativity is only thing people can attack asians. However,There is no standard test for this. Most people don't want to accept asians can be academically great and creative.
The maps 3:17 you are highliting is wrong. People from South Asia such as Pakistan, Afghanistan and central asian region such as Tajikistan, Kazakhstan are also classified as "Asian" in the US and the UK.
We are smarter because we study harder. Our parents drive us--or I submit, force us-- to study our asses off. Asian parents are competing with one other through the achievements of their children. It seems forceful or even oppressive, dare say liberals, but in the long term we enjoy better lives because we have better success. I live in California and enjoy a six-figure income thanks to my forceful parents. On a larger scale, Japan, China and Korea all prospered through rigorous education.
I agree with the videos conclusion. Back in college I had a roommate from Korea and we compared our educational experience (prior to college). We both went to public schools however the academic culture seemed MUCH stronger for him. He had school six days a week for ten hours each day on average. And they still had corporal punishment for not completing assignments (he would get hit with his books). I think external factors such as these could explain why Asians tend to do better in academics.
It’s pressure from parents, relatives, Asian coworkers with kids, & instilled thoughts of not wanting to be behind. All the pressure makes us motivated to get ahead.
There's a difference between book smart and being smart in life. I'm Asian (specifically Hmong) and although education was heavily emphasis from my parents growing up, I've always strived for balance. I'd sacrifice grades (3.0 GPA in high school, undergraduate, and graduate) so that I can maintain a healthy social lifestyle. Guess what, I'm now a military officer and pilot as well as a very successful accountant in my company and in leadership positions. I'd take a balance lifestyle any day or sacrificing my youth trying to ace everything academically.
Abe Bravo Not to be the party pooper here... but how did you get accepted into an officer program with a 3.00 GPA? When I was applying for the Navy Nuclear program they did not allow me to go through because I had a 3.2 GPA.
when I was six years old, one day my teacher found my father and said I struggled academically at school, and my father cried when he got home. That is how much my father values education. I was literally just out of kindergarten.....I mean I was just not ready to have homework yet
my parents would always say this to me "learning is your key to success and dreams" so I always try hard not to disappoint my parents and study hard always so that my grades won't go down
My parents are always pushing me to do my best, sometimes I get fed up with it but I know they're only trying to do what's best for me because they didn't do what they could have when they were like me. I understand people say "they're living their dream through me". Well that's great then, I can make two dreams come true. That's why I think parents are the biggest factor in education because they motivate their kids to do the best and the least we can do is repay them, no?

I teach in Asia. These kids even have homework from preschool. Their schools normally start at 7:30 and ends about 12 or 1 PM. From there, they go to after-school classes for about another 7 hours. They end classes between 7pm-9pm and still have to do homework, eat, shower and relax. It quite normal to see school kids with uniforms late at night. Most kids go to sleep at 10 or 11pm. They even sometimes have classes on Weekends. Their whole life is about school. It is cultural to believe that one attains a high social status through education. Americans, don't feel less intelligent if you can't compete. These kids' lives are not easy.
I am a Pilipino teacher, I've taught foreign asians too, and what I've noticed is that asian students does not just learn from school but they also have a lot of academies. Students are very dedicated to study and they have great study discipline as well. This has something to do with their respect to their parents too.
Stuyvesant College in New York has a zero affirmative action admission board which only looks at SAT / GPA scores and features a tough admission test. Result: 3/4 of the entire student body is made up of East Asians. Asians definitely spend much more time on studying but may be faster learners and they seem to have an affinity for math and science. They are less adept at learning new languages though.

Reasons we study hard or are intelligent
1. We wanna repay our parents
2. We don't want to get beaten by our parents by getting B+
3. Many Asian students don't party every Saturday or whatever
Western world must be Asianized.. 👌

Bimbo Battung , well said. Asian parents want their kids to do well in education to have a good future. Asian kids try hard in school to show respect for their parents.

Because they take their studies seriously
Parents are the first teachers. Most Asian parents apparently instill in their children to respect education and to value their teacher. On the other hand, perhaps most American parents encourage their children to respect social status, sports, and other superficialities of a society that dispenses jobs on whom you know instead of what you know.

To me, those people are amazingly smart and intelligent people that I should admire and learn from.

abc Co true
We Asians aren’t naturally smart, we just actually work hard. We worked our butts off to be smart, so don’t say, “She’s smart because she’s asian!”

There's a difference between book smart and being smart in life.

Bobby Chang This title is racist. We know Asians are not smarter but just the same as all other ethnic groups.. If they were smarter they would not need to buy a tutor and study longer hours. To add, the Asian universities would be ahead of the western ones and therefore no need to study in the USA..Asians, for the most part, just focus more on academics. Some may argue their life rotates around academics and nothing else..More important, most that came to the USA are well educated and wealthier, which can be misleading.. This is real important. For some Asians they also practice abortion; that said, eliminating unwanted and perhaps problematic low functioning offsprings. This all contributes to the data.
We're not smarter, but we're more experienced. life is like a mmorpg, Asian were grinding with monsters at our front and a bigger monster parents behind our back while Westerners are exploring the map for fun and their parents goes kids will be kids. you guys get same age weekend playmate, we get tutors visiting us. you guys do sleepover, we do night crunch. When a white kid scored anything other than A, their parents goes "that's very good sweetie, you'll do better next time". when asian gets a B+ parents go "why are you stupid, what your brain is for, what were you thinking, how come the other kids got 99+, why can't you be like that, you're fking grounded till next exam, and i am going find you a more expensive tutor" Trust me when I say, when you guys are jealous of Asian, we're more jealous of your childhood.
Steven Chen good point what you said but I want to add that .. This title is racist.
Lol, tell me about it! “Why can’t you be like Suzy? Suzy get straight a’s all the time.” “Why can’t you be like Chang! Chang go to Harvard this fall.” “Why can’t you be like Tim? To play piano very well and win Westinghouse contest.” Well, I used to flip it on my parents. “Dad, Why can’t you be like Lisa’s dad? He teaches at U Chicago: you only teach at..” “Mom, why can’t you be like Betsy’s mom? She’s always dressed fashionably and never goes out without makeup.” “Dad, his come you make less than Lizzie’s mother? You ought to be ashamed of making less than a woman.” And they thought I was being impertinent, lol.
F C yes I always wonder why the kids never figured that out. Flip it on the parents while put everything into perspective
F C are you Asian fc?
Steven Chen just flip it on the parents like the Caucasians do
If you think for one second that an Asian student studies less and gets A's then you're delusional. It's 98% hard work and 2% genius that gets you an A.
That is not true. I study very very hard sometimes and for some reason I fail while others, who have studied less, get an A or a B. I think genetic iq does help a lot academically, but doesn't help you in life. Emotional intelligence is more important.
andy le you forgot about the luck you see very big number of tests I did I didn't even tried to open a book. But 90% of the questions are the ones I learned in school before. So I don't open book I don't study but I get 5(you see in my country 1 is the worst score and 5 is the best it's not the A or B or that stuff)
Pablo Galvan Alberola in my country there is a famous word " study from friend are better than from teacher " if you dont know something just ask your smart friend + they are same age at you they know you => they know how to help you to do the math ,vv ps study alot but dont know how to do = same like not study you need to ask teacher or friend + or watch video or google on internet how they do math or something like that then do it agian by your self + in ASIA before some big test like to get our highschool degree we study extra time in school then come home go to study at teacher house or tudor then study at home + we start repairing our self 6 month before the test or some 1 year + in the 1 or 2 last month everybody study like crazy they turn off smartphone , tv , dont used face or instar dont go to watch movie and focus in study and the test are way harder than in the USA if we do the same type of test like you guy got i bet 80% will get high score
Study hard doesn't mean study efficient. You need to absorb the things you learned, transform it in something you can remember and understand. Sit duck and read doesn't really help. Furthermore, there is really no such thing of genius, just effort matters.
andy le Thank you. I keep telling people that intelligence and academic success is something that can be acquired. If you practice your craft, you become better at it. Simple.
i am asian. i am dumber than a plank of wood, seriously. stop propagating this idea that asians are innately smarter. made my uni life hell. this was pretty much how every group assignment went. "so... mike... what's the answer/solution?"
"i dont know... arent we solving it together?"
"you dont know how to do it?"
"no more than you."
*awkward silence as they realise they got the "dumb asian".
You say you're dumb but got into college?
Been to a village in China, they were having a celebration in a household. Unaware what was the occasion I was invited. Later I realised it was their daughter who was admitted into a university to continue her studies. Proud peasant parents of that village.
because we asians are into japanese anime.. and japanese anime teach us not to give up and have purpose in life.. lol
if you were an asian, then i was Russian. lol.
He is singer Sid Sriram. He is now a famous singer in India.
I'm Asian...WHY AM I NOT DOCTOR YET? J/k. I'm hopefully on my way though. But seriously, this is one of those cultural adoption that may help our nation become better. I'm not saying that Asian culture is superior, but if America as a nation would adopt their values of education, it could be beneficial.
you doctor yet?
I agree. It is not race it is culture. If you live in a culture that encourages education, then you will become educated.
IN America, its the dumbest people who get laid, instead of the smartest, so you have an overpopulation of dummies in America. In America, stupidity and ignorance are worshipped as virtues. Look who our president is.
Can we accept the fact that they work harder, and study more, and education means more to them
Work ethic culture focus discipline priorities respect for school/teachers .
Hats off to asians.
#leadtheway
They are right about one thing: Asian students are scared of doing bad on tests because their parents are very strict about getting a certain grade. My Asian classmates and I always have to try to get 90% or above, otherwise, we're dead...
I GOT 50% once and my parents didn't give a shit.
In Nepal my dad would whip me with spiky stuff and i was only in preschool, also i would have to walk to school, here my parents would get mad at me for getting 95% or 90% in science or math or reading class. in social studies i always do extra credit work and in math.thats why i got 200% in social studies one time. Also my parents were both teachers at my school back in Nepal.
social studies was super easy, and no i had a A in math and science
this year i have a C in english because i forgot my 1 month over due homework but i didn't know it was homework because i didn't hear my teacher telling us that. I just handed it in a few days ago and i also told her that i had handed it in, at confernces and on powerschool it doesn't have a grade
OpenTheTrollGate in what class?
But in my class, an African guy always gets the highest score . But guess what, from 2nd to 30th positions is full of Asians.
my filipino parents dont really care about grades but I want to make them be proud of my academics since they raised and brought me to america
Probably true because they study all their lives and parents invest in them from the time they are young
US of A provides a level playing field where only hard work and dedication matters. That is where Asians score. Asians in general (and Chinese and Indians in particular) have strong family values and parents emphasis a great deal on education and hard work.
You have lots to learn yet. How many East Indian CEO's are there in U.S. companies?
Sridhar Kaushik strong family values? Kill baby girls and discriminate based on income and race,?? This title is racist. We know Asians are not smarter but just the same as all other ethnic groups.. If they were smarter they would not need to buy a tutor and study longer hours. listen my loves, whether you are Black,White,Latino, or Asian you just need to understand you can achieve. I know, I know you've heard that cap since you were 5.. but believe you all it works. We don't choose dreams, dreams choose us. I've learned that studying hard everyday and reading a chapter of a book everyday, has really helped me. Anyways all I'm saying is color doesn't have shit to do with anything, know you're worth and apply yourself.✌❤
SID SRIRAM who featured in the video at 0:22 is a famous south Indian Singer in the recent years
20% White, 75% Asian... I guess the guy who did that graph was white?
hahahah! your comment has made my day
It just means the other ethnic groups that comprise the remaining 5% were not mentioned. But those of you that lack deductive thinking ability would not be able to surmise that.
Thanks captain obvious!
The Dulu We're up to 84% Asian now. 12% white.
Hannah Folk That must be one academically competitive school. Good luck, kid.
Asian students ARE smarter.
Now go ahead and make the video on why Asian students are smarter.
I mean, my friends are way better and intelligent than me but they just don't study.
That's why i had the highest grade in my class
We are more committed because
A. Good education has a high standing among us.
B. Our parents constantly tell us to strive hard.
C. We work even harder because we appreciate and know the blessing to have the opportunity to live or study in the US. or Europe.
My parents tell me to strive hard too, not only Asian's. I studied about 4-5 weeks before my maths exam nearly every day for an 1hr-2hr, and I only improved by 5-10%. I wanted to improve my mark by 15-20%. But I'm at Uni now and got a distinction for economics and a credit for accounting.
I heard a lot of Asian parents say that B=bad, lol, don't complain, just do your best.
Not that many Asians in Europe outside of UK
It’s being disciplined and hardworking. Anyone can be “smart”, you just have to work for it.
A lot of pressure from parent to study long hours and memorize text book daily, not that we are smarter.
My parents tell me I'm stupid in order to make me smart. Not working
Same with my parents but it did work at first with me then later it just pissed me off. Although my mom only does it now although I think shes doing it because she wants to yell at someone and it still annoys me. This is why the rest of my family thinks shes crazy both my dad's side and my mother's side.
I guess all children all different, I didn't do well in school until high school when my parents left me alone
Western students always challenge teacher.
Asian: Listen, write down and get good mark. Don't give a shit that if teacher is right wrong.
Just cuz we score higher in an exam doesn’t mean we are smarter.
merph1 the reason why they score higher is cuz they are pushed to do good from a younger age
Yes it does
I am a Pilipino teacher, I've taught foreign asians too, and what I've noticed is that asian students does not just learn from school but they also have a lot of academies. Students are very dedicated to study and they have great study discipline as well. This has something to do with their respect to their parents too.
The short answer: Yes!
I bet there are quite a few South Asians in that group also, Indians.
Asian Value EDUCATION period. They study hard because knowledge is more than wealth that you could take with you for the rest of your life!!!!
Alex Kendz even for girls,? This title is racist. We know Asians are not smarter but just the same as all other ethnic groups.. If they were smarter they would not need to buy a tutor and study longer hours. Cmon- it’s IQ,!
That principal must be one happy person with those students, compared to some others.
