If they want to change anything I would change the conditions that it’s only necessary to have a license to watch BBC services. Therefore ITV, Sky, etc. are free to view without a licence since they don’t receive any of the fee. Then I could view them live if I chose instead of on catch-up. (Chance of me buying a licence will still be zero but at least I can watch the others I may want to watch a programme on live)

I'd rather it be an "opt in" than something that is forced on people via deductions as a tax, which would probably come out of your pay or bundled in to council tax. Ideally BBC should go commercial and pay their own way rather than relying on the public.
As I've commented before: 1. There's a database of addresses with valid TV licences. Make that database available to the service providers - Virgin, Sky, etc. 2. Supply all set-top boxes with BBC channels disabled, as they do with movies and sports. 3. The service providers can compare their customer address database against those on the TV licence database, and enable BBC channels on the boxes installed at those locations. 4. Repeal the laws which say you have to pay BBC to watch non-BBC channels. Job done. BBC is a made into a subscription service, practically overnight. Level playing field. Earn your subscriptions with quality programming. Those who feel BBC is worth paying for can continue to do so; everyone else gets to watch the rest with a clear conscience and no "fear" of a goon visit. BBC save a fortune on employing goons and sending threatening letters.
Never paid for one since I moved into my flat 5 years ago, only time I watch TV is when visiting family. Probably due a letter asking me to redeclare no license needing soon, though having had to contact them I'm fairly sure more than a year ago to tell them that no, my flat is not a business, I find myself hoping that some incompetence has resulted in my flat being entirely removed from their records simply due to it not being a business!
They will say they need time and to trial ideas, which will mean the fee still existing while they show adverts to see if they work and get paid for them
When you are talking about the BBC, "utter nonce sense" is correct. I don't own a TV, you couldn't pay me enough money to watch any of the BBC's content on the I-player so I won't be paying a fee for a licence that I don't need.
Thats because its gov controlled and like everything else the gov spends comes from the tax payer ...fact everything that they own as such or runs comes from taxes
Although I do pay for a licence, I would be against scrapping it and having a media tax because a) you would need to pay it even if you don’t currently need a licence and b) you can bet your boots that it will stealthily rise on a regular basis because it is hidden in subscription costs and they will hope nobody notices.
I got the notification letter informing me that my No license Needed status had run out and to act now to avoid breaking the law ,Is there any point in renewal of the exemption when the BBC threatens that a Officer could visit and check to inspect how your using your own ( Not the BBC property) television to see what your viewing ? Thanks for your time 👍
There are plans to switch off terrestrial TV broadcasting in the U.K. by “the early 2030’s” according to Ofcom. If & when that happens the only way to receive TV would be via broadband cable, which could see a license fee levy automatically added to your broadband monthly subscription.
It would suit me if the Government remains indecisive for the next few years as I don't watch and I don't pay. When I canceled the TV Licence 14 months ago I knew that I would have no interest in watching TV ever again.
No one needs a licence anymore. On UA-cam we have you, Black belt and Mayher. We have funny stuff and dramatic stuff and crime stuff, even educational stuff. Why would anyone watch the British bull*shit corp? x
Many of the potential alternatives are worse, at least as it stands, you have a choice ... don't watch live TV or Iplayer. The only fair alternative, would be to make it subscription based - and not a tax on other things or an unfair trade issue for commercial stations. Somehow, I think linear broadcast TV may be in its death throes before anything worthwhile happens
They don't need to think of anything to come up with it, we've told them what to do, either they do ads or they do a subscription. It wont change after 2027 and if it does, it most likely be in a bad way that doesn't benefit everyone.
I wonder what our commercial TV think about this (ITV, C4, C5) since they must surely see the removal of the licence fee as a threat to their ad revenues (and a serious one at that) meaning its probably in their best interests to try maintain the status quo.
What would surprise me a great deal is for any Government not just this current one to move in anyway against the BBC and at least with the current system you can still avoid paying it and if you don't talk to their representatives when they call at your door then you can get away without paying it whereas if it was on your council or income tax you would not have any choice but to pay it
Keep the license fee as it is. The current model allows people who don't want to pay the license fee to not pay it. The only funding change they would do is to make it a tax that no-one could avoid paying.
Chilli Jon Carne - There aren't enough adverts to go on itv, Sky, Ch4, Ch5 and the 100 and more 'free' channels already let alone being able to fund the entire BBC television and radio channels with them. Companies have a limited amount to spend on advertising they can't pay for a soap powder advert to go on countless channels. The BBC would have to charge similar prices to itv. Daytime slots on itv cost around £3,700 to £4,700. Peaktime slots from £10,500 to £34,000. Companies need to advertise for several days so the cost for advertising can be huge. It might be possible for Radio 1 and 2 to become advert funded but the licence fee would still be required. There are many BBC viewers (myself included) who prefer to watch a drama, film or sporting event without a 3 minutes break every 15 minutes for adverts. To me the licence fee at £15 a month for BBC1, 2, 3 and 4 television and Radios,1,2,3,4,5,6 and BBC local radio stations is very good value.
@@Greylobster Correct. Then any programme that requires the slightest grey matter to understand will vanish from our TV screens as they pull in low viewing figures so will become the first for the chop; leaving the viewer with soaps, talent shows and reality TV shows - only news channels that are bank-rolled by multi-millionaires (like right wing GBNews) will be available as no one will want to advertise on BBC News with such a low audience and it would be the first BBC channel to go bust. Sky is already owned by an American company as is Ch5. Given time a privately owned BBC could go the same way. In the end the only British part of the BBC would be its viewers, a bit like the American owned British Sky Broadcasting which long ago should have been re-named American Sky Broadcasting. And the licence fee is low because the BBC don't have to make a profit for shareholders unlike the expensive Sky subscription most of which is pocketed by its owners and shareholders.

Thank every one who voted labour. If they had not voted labour. We would not have all the taxes we are going to get. Also ask a labour voter what good things labour does for this country. Now labours in power. A labour voter does not say the councils got no money. Like they did wene the Tories were in power age concern has ten labour MPs has pensioners champions the same MPs who voted to cut pensioners fuel allowance. Wene questioned about this age concern refused to answer no doubt due to labour chronies in their ranks
We have been getting taxed on every single thing in our lifes for centuries .You pay tax on everything from the minute you awake and eat breakfast to minute you go to bed .only thing in Britain not yet taxed is the air we breath
@@evelyncraig7243 and labour could tax the air you breath. And because you give out carbon monoxide and methane. They could call it a green tax. And don't think they would do it. Coopers idea for pensioners was to freeze them so they break into crystals to save. Land. No that's cooper in the last labour government. I hope you have plenty of money. Labour are removing the Tory cap on council tax rises .and councils can hike council tax legally 15 percent. Now go to the shops buy a cake and cut out a slice 15 percent. And you will say wow that's a lot of the cake gone. The last labour government brought in thousands of stealth taxes. And no I'm not a Tory. I believe in honest government
So why does the Beeb say you need a licence to watch ITVX? Adverts have ALWAYS covered any other broadcaster from demanding a fee - when they show advertisements...
Transmitter hardware.
havent pd for 7 yrs it still works lol
If they want to change anything I would change the conditions that it’s only necessary to have a license to watch BBC services. Therefore ITV, Sky, etc. are free to view without a licence since they don’t receive any of the fee. Then I could view them live if I chose instead of on catch-up. (Chance of me buying a licence will still be zero but at least I can watch the others I may want to watch a programme on live)
Working in Germany at the moment and its more like the media tax you mentioned. Its 55 EUR a quarter so more expensive than back home and there is no getting away from it unless you live under a rock as it covers radio, tv, stuff that can access the internet so computers, smartphones, games consoles etc. So I have to pay it where as I don't need a UK TV licence when I'm back home because I use catch up and no iPlayer.
The question iv got is why no government be it labour or Conservative will change it,what hold does the BBC have over them
It's their main propaganda outlet.
Well, being the government broadcaster might have something to do with it.
Back when I did watch the BBC when I had a licence. They did in fact run “adverts”. For their other programmes or just filler (where they would run paid for advertising on their non UK broadcast). They had plenty of ad breaks, just didn’t run paid for ads in them
Let BBC news be a subscription channel only, let’s see how many people will pay for that biased shite. Not many I bet.
Exactly what I said .That's why they won't do it they know many would not subscribe
In the normal countries you don't pay a licence to watch tv....in the UK think again...they want you to pay everything...unbelievable👍
Exactly Wonder they not taxed the air we breath yet
I'm 74 years old and receive a threatening letter every month. I have declared that I don't require a license since covid. I don't watch live tv especially not the BBC propaganda. If it wasn't for your videos I would probably be very stressed but knowing my rights I would tell them to sling their hook if I received a visit. The money they waste with all these letters is obscene. Thanks 👍
You do realise that you are not required to submit a No Licence Needed declaration? It has no legal utility.
If they keep it as it is,they need to change the rules so that anyone can watch any other channel live if ifs nothing to do with the BBC... it's not on that they have so much control. Keep up the great job you're doing, Chili John.
fk all we pay enought, sky through roof keeps going up , tax keeps going up wages not moving, goverment implimented min wage so there fault ,, so now im not paying a tv licence simple as..
I'd rather it be an "opt in" than something that is forced on people via deductions as a tax, which would probably come out of your pay or bundled in to council tax.
Ideally BBC should go commercial and pay their own way rather than relying on the public.
should never be in council tax as it is not a necessary public service . Like having bins empty ect
As I've commented before:
They will say they need time and to trial ideas, which will mean the fee still existing while they show adverts to see if they work and get paid for them
It is actually good news. It means they won't be putting it on to other things as a tax/fee like Council Tax or ISP fees (Yet....)
When you are talking about the BBC, "utter nonce sense" is correct.
I don't own a TV, you couldn't pay me enough money to watch any of the BBC's content on the I-player so I won't be paying a fee for a licence that I don't need.
The people of the UK should be asked if we want a TV Licence Fee.
Every pensioner watching this, please cancel your BBC tax, keep warm this winter instead.
Got a letter from TV licensing today. I opened it and the promptly threw it away. They won’t get a penny out of me.
Never ever give up the fight to get this license fee abolished
Thats because its gov controlled and like everything else the gov spends comes from the tax payer ...fact everything that they own as such or runs comes from taxes
BBC & efficiency. 😂😂😂
Although I do pay for a licence, I would be against scrapping it and having a media tax because a) you would need to pay it even if you don’t currently need a licence and b) you can bet your boots that it will stealthily rise on a regular basis because it is hidden in subscription costs and they will hope nobody notices.
Do you always concede defeat before the fight begins?
Why you paying 4 state propaganda to be broadcast directly into your home🤔
@@Bobby-st5dg I’m not, I’m paying for football ⚽️
@@Bobby-st5dg A mixture of fear and ignorance, usually.
Between the tv licence and a tv tax I’ll pick the license fee. They can’t force to me to pay the license fee. I haven’t paid it for years.
its a fact that ALL TV,s work perfectly without a license
Don't tell them.....
Why would anyone watch the British bull*shit corp? x
ENUFF IS ENUFF NOW 🤬
Never had one, and never will. It’s a con
Love your videos , BBC should be subscription channel , but they don't want that because of all the money they would lose
Everyone spread the word don’t watch any live tv don’t need to pay licence
and if you did?
I got another snotty letter today I did open and just dropped into paper recycling ♻️ bin I'm saving the world 🌎 thanks bbc 😂😂
People expect way too much from government. The license fee is a TAX. Just get over it & move on.
None of my money is going to those who harboured Savile.
Exactly.... the pool of advertisers in shrinking also
What would surprise me a great deal is for any Government not just this current one to move in anyway against the BBC and at least with the current system you can still avoid paying it and if you don't talk to their representatives when they call at your door then you can get away without paying it whereas if it was on your council or income tax you would not have any choice but to pay it
Keep the license fee as it is. The current model allows people who don't want to pay the license fee to not pay it. The only funding change they would do is to make it a tax that no-one could avoid paying.
When they knock I like to ask is there a training or something b4 you can earn your licence? Can you have your licence suspended or revoked ??
Hello there. I have a quick question but first can I say I don't actually own a TV I am just a gamer and youtube shorts rabbit hole victim :). (Q) Do I need to fill in an online forum to tell them I don't need a licence or can I just ignore them still? Thanks.
Yes, you should fill out the form on the website.
Takes a few seconds.
There's a bit on there asking what you use a TV/monitor for.
Just say you only use it for gaming.
I don't have a problem with the licence fee staying as it is. At least I can choose not to buy a licence.
Exactly. It's opt in not opt out
VOTE REFORM AT THE LOCAL ELECTIONS make the statement then major elections vote Reform as they wil bin the licence totally.
