I understand this sentiment but the Orlando Magic do this currently. They often get a lot of FTA in a game, but that's because they do drive a lot since they're not a good shooting team. Despite this, they're not free throw merchants. They do actually get a lot of missed calls. But their FT% as a team is pretty average tbh (about 75%) so only accounts for perhaps an extra 15-20PPG that they had to make up for not shooting as many 3s. So for an average team that's actually going to give them a chance to win most games they're in, just not necessarily a good chance - that needs good defense which is what they also do.

They went from averaging 3+ more FTAs than their opponents per game to 10+ more FTAs than their opponents per game. *It TRIPLED.* It's highly unlikely they would've made the play-in without that increase.
