Gorilla Mum Wants Her Daughter All For Herself

- A compilation of clips from the Gorilla mother Mayani and her daughter Thandie from the Antwerp Zoo. Mum doesn't seem to want anybody else playing with her daughter. When Thandie gets close to her dad, she keeps taking her daughter away from him. Outside, as soon as Thandie gets close to her dad, mum reaches out to her daughter, grabs her and slings her on her back.
Thandie has a little run around while dad, the Silverback Matadi is laying at the back with his head propped up, all relaxed. Little Thandie is pushing the big blue barrel, but unlike Lope with the ball ( • Gorilla Lope Is Creepe... ) she seems a lot braver! She then gets closer to her dad , before mum comes running again and takes her away again. This seems to be a common thing and not just with Matadi the other girls don't get any time with the little one either as you'll see in some of the future videos.

The Antwerp Gorilla Troop:
The Silverback Matadi: Born on the 25th of May 2003 at the Twycross Zoo in England to Ozala and Ti. Ozala, as many of you know is still at Twycross Zoo with her family. Ti passed away on the 26th Feb 2007, the cause of it was a stroke.
Mayani ( The Mate of Matadi) was born on the 6th of December in Barcelona. Mayani got moved to the Antwerp Zoo in 2017 I believe.
Their daughter Thandie was born on 26.11.2018
Mambele was born in Hanover Germany on the 21 Feb 1999 and was moved to Antwerp on the 22nd August 2011.
Beautiful Amahoro is I believe an Eastern Lowland Gorilla born in the year 1990. She has a stunning deep black coat without any obvious single grey hair. At 160kg she is a very powerful female. In comparison, Oumbie weighs 190kg!
Sadly Matadi passed away on the 9th of October 2023, leaving his young family behind. He was such a gentle giant. RIP Matadi. You won't be forgotten. Antwerp Zoo wrote cause of death was "due to a double respiratory infection (COVID-19 and Bordetella) with additional complications."

Dads like “nope not even going to bother cause here she’ll come”. 😆
He was looking for mom, then she came🤣😁🤣😁🤣
Wow, the way she grabbed the baby and threw iton her back, dad didn't stand a chance😁
That really cracked me up how she was just slinging little Thandie on her back. She always used full swing.
And so Mama should have the privilege of enjoying her baby Daughter all to herself. Good Mama💖👍
I know Matadi is not Oumbi's son with Ozala, but they have passed on some awesome genes collectively and with other mates! Let's not forget Okanda who is Ozala and Oumbi's boy also Ambam who is Oumbi's brother, and Matadi is Ozala's first born! Magnificent, I especially love how Mayani let's Thandie do her thing to a point then comes to collect her baby! I know I'm just blubbering on but I love Oumbi and Ozala's entire family, so forgive me!
Thank you for putting them all in perspective.

You know I was thinking the same thing. Matadi look just like his mom my goodness. Strong genes 🧬
You can blubber as much as you want! 😁 We all feel the same!
Actually, I'm glad you did explain all of that. Just before I scrolled down, I was a bit confused because I have seen comments about Lope and Shuffai were Thandie's uncles through Ozala. I was thinking "wait a minute, Ozala's oldest boy is Okanda, right?'' I didn't even know about Matadi. LOL. That's awesome! Thanks for explaining.
I mean.... that baby monkey is the cutest thing..... I don’t blame the momma.. ❤️ 💜
The dad looks so thoughtful and chill lol.
Gorilla Meep, dad's need a cuddle as well though you know :)
Word
It's gorilla not a monkey.
Oh my Matadi look just like his mom and little Thandie is so cute. Ozala would be proud. Thanks slogger vlogger
How beautiful is a mother's love. Papa doesn't have a chance to cuddle with mama around..lol. what a sweet video SV, thks so much :)
Mama🦍💖her baby. They are a beautiful family. Matidi is a handsome silverback. Thanks for sharing.
She seems to be a young mom, probably why she's so cautious‼️ poor dad didn't even try to touch the baby... Its like he knows better 😍😍🇺🇸
Especially if this is her firstborn. She will relax with the second baby.
Wow Mama is overprotective with her baby just like me and my babies!! Lol! 😄 But better overprotective to a degree than negligent or abusive!! But I have to say Daddy and the other female did act gentle towards that sweet tiny innocent baby girl!! So cute! 😊💕
Yes they were all quite gentle with her.
SV Thanks for Matadi, Mayani n their daughter, Thandie with us. If only Ozala, Bibi, Lope and Sufai knew they have extended families elsewhere in Europe would be so nice too.
Agree It would be really nice for them to know that Matadi has such a great family.
Thats why i call her thandie the explorer😃
They’re so precious!
funny how dad see the baby and just look up like, The mad woman will run fast I am sure...
She's one of those protective moms...😁
Helicopter gorilla Mom! LOL
@@swamp5050 YES....LOL !!!!
@@swamp5050 Haha, Helicopter gorilla Mom, this is so funny😝😂 Thank you for the laugh! 😄😆
Beautiful family! 😍
She is so cute! I noticed that a lot of time the mother won't let their babies near dad, I always wondered why that is? I love the social antics and why they do certain things. Sweet video ❤❤
Lovely family.
Daddy just wants a hug😂
Awesome
Poor dad!! He just wants to play with his little girl!!
Don't worry he will get the chance! :-)
"You keep saying I should trust you alone with her but, I can smell the booze on your breath from here!!"😰b
Matadi looks just like his Mom (Ozala).
Smart dad...not to interfere lol
CAN'T Argue with THAT ...!!! LOL
Everyone wants to get in on the mothering.🤗😀
Beautiful baby girl, how old is she? Nice family.
Thandie was born on the 26.11.2018
SloggerVlogger Thanks for information.
Good for hee
What is Mayani’s parents background?
She was born in Barcelona and was hand reared. Her parents are Machinda / Xebo.
I wish we could know what animals ponder.
How old is the baby and thanks for the upload.
Thandie was born on the 26.11.2018
@@SloggerVlogger Roughly the same age as Kintaro then.
THATS A SHAME THIS GORILLA MOMMY IS BETTER THAN SOME HUMAN MOMS!!!
Matadi seems like a gentler soul than Oumbi. He has an introspective composure that we rarely see with Oumbi.
I've seen Oumbi many times in that exact pose, I think it's their standard "I'm just here for protection" pose, all Siverback dad's do it!
swamp5050 You’re right. I suppose it’s been awhile since we’ve seen Oumbi do that. He tends to sit up more often than laying down nowadays.
@@MrSlanderer Who can lay down and ponder the meaning of life with Lope on the loose! LOL
swamp5050 Nice!
@@swamp5050 Lol 😂
Do amahoro the eastern lowland gorilla next!!!
A couple of Amahoro video will come in a few weeks time!
@@SloggerVlogger Thanks!!!
I've heard that some time the big males will hurt the younger ones maybe that's why...
I've never seen a silverback hurt his baby before. It's in their instincts to protect them (even when it's not their own). There were some people who found an orphan gorilla and they didn't know what to do with it so they tried approaching a troop of wild gorillas to see if they would take it. The second the silverback of the group saw the baby gorilla in the arms of a human he fucking lost it and charged at him. The guy got so scared he just kinda tossed the baby at the silverback and backed away (there's video of this part somewhere on YT not sure where). The silverback grabbed the baby and gave it to one of his wives to take care of which she tried to do, the whole group tried to feed the baby but none of them were nursing so they didn't have any milk to give it and the baby was too young to eat the plants they offered it (you can imagine what happened to it). But the group tried their best to care for it.
Babies are fragile though and they need to be constantly at their mother's side so of course she is going to keep everyone at a distance. So do lioness mothers. They will wait until the babies are old enough to play with before they will introduce them to the group. But it's still his job to stay close and protect the baby as well and when the mom is ready to let him play with the baby then she will, but it's up to her to decide when that is, not him.
I think it should be illegal to put prime apes in enclosures so sad it’s like a fucking jail
🦍❣🦍
It is so frustrating all the noizes the vizitors make :( So so so sad to know, that these animals have to live all their life in this...
So... have your own baby this one's mine
