Jenny Doan demonstrates how to make a BIG Storm at Sea quilt block using 10 inch squares of precut fabric. Her layer cake fabric is Tonga Treats Batiks - Honor 10" Squares Tonga Treats by Timeless Treasures.
The Tsunami pattern was designed by Deonn Stott for Quiltscapes. Like a traditional Storm at Sea, this quilt is made up of simple squares, diamonds, and triangles. All the seams are easy and straight, but a clever layout gives the illusion of curvy, rolling waves.

Love the way Natalie takes her time and is so precise while Jenny slaps it down to press or cut. You can tell Jenny was a seamstress and had to get it done.

      Unnecessary comment. Rude

I think they are amazing quilters in their own way. If you speak to someone who worked in a garment factory many years ago (or did costume sewing) they look at their sewing as to “I have to get it done.” I know 2 ladies who worked in a factory, and both say they get in a hurry when they sew because they were paid by the piece work. I didn’t mean anything rude by it.

@@pathillin2210 I knew exactly what you meant. I've sewn for myself and others. When you have a deadline, such as a wedding gown or a costume, there is only "have to get it done" because there's no changing the date. Other things can take a more casual pace. And with plenty of experience, you get to know which sewing style to adopt for a project.

This is a wonderful tutorial on the Storm at Sea block. Years ago, I bought a book that was all Storm at Sea and it went from using the block as it is to many variations using various sub-units of this multi-unit block. I never did try out any of the projects in that book but now I'll give Storm at Sea a try after seeing this tutorial and obtaining the supplies listed.
I really appreciated the details in sewing plus other things to watch for when making this. Now to follow the link and get started.

Love that You made the storm at Sea pattern. It is always inspiring to see a traditional pattern done using bigger or smaller blocks so it would be awesome to see this on a triple play. I think it would also be helpful for ppl who are less confident about squaring up diamond in a square blocks, so that they don't loose those points, to see it again. It isn't harder but as Natalie demonstrated it can require a bit of extra attention. I pulled out a bunch of Red/white/blue fabrics yesterday to start a 4th of July project but got busy with chores so hadn't cut anything yet. Now I am glad I waited :) Thank You & have a great week
