This is why I stopped doing the Minuteman story line altogether. I wanted to be the LONE wanderer, exploring the world at my own pace and finding things out on my own. So when you get "settlement X is under attack!", this it literally the game butting in, saying, "hey! we got STUFF for you to DO!" because the developers are worried that noobs will get bored. And the settlement under attack is usually on the other side of the map. I usually avoid Fast Travel because it breaks immersion, but the game is forcing you to use it as a magical teleporter, because in real life you would never arrive in time to help the settlement if you had to walk there.

Yeah. I figured out that you can best a. Don't actually get anywhere close to the Museum of Freedom, and just leave Preston & co. there for the entire game, or b. there is an option to tell Preston that you're not the hero he's looking for and he'll not give you any minuteman quests until you tell him you'll help him. Both options close off certain workshops and/or your first power armor set, but what's more important, that two or three workshops in settlements and one suit of armor, or the peace and quiet of not hearing "General, another settlement needs our help" every single damn time you visit Sanctuary?

Fallout 4 is the complete opposite, one of the first quests (as in one of the closest, because you could do quests out of order... to a point) just hands you a power armor and makes you fight one of the strongest enemies. We’re talking like 20+ settlers, many of which were in full combat armor and had lazer/plasma weapons, heavy machine gun turrets on the corner of every building, and a defense of more than 400. These settlers were being bullied by two or three Raiders, who were probably wielding pipe pistols and wearing literal scrap metal. Btw, The settler that I talked to to get the quest was a Minuteman. I just ended up killing every last settler to make sure I never get any again.

I spent a great deal of time in this game recreating a full-scale model of a house I used to live in. The house has since been demolished, but I still have the Fallout 4 version to explore whenever I want.

That explains everything and here I was thinking I was super drunk the day before talking to tons of NPCs which I dont recall and end up with a huge list of quests the next day and seeing this was funny and from the comments I learnt the NPCs tackle you down and hold you down and write their quests on your quest log without your confirmation then when you proceed to talk to the NPCs to figure out wtf happen the NPCs be like "Have you killed those death claws yet?"

I can proudly say I played just enough of Fallout 4's main questline and stopped randomly to never know how to open the button to do settlement crap. Never built one no sir, didnt even know until a year after I stopped playing the game that there is a part where it's required
