Body boards became popular on the west coast of California in 1974 .... I was 12 years old, my best friend was Todd Smoke... we rode together for the next forty years.... R.I.P. Todd Daniel Smoke 6/7/61 ~ died 2017 Rest In Peace my friend until we ride the giant wedge in the sky..... jimmy ......
Im so stoked the previous gen are still on a competitive level with the new gen.. The sport was still developing for most of the gen before that so it was hard for those guys to stay relevant.. but guys like Mike,Ben and Jeff have mastered the art.
I bodyboarded for years when i was younger and thought it was the greatest thing I had ever tried. One of my first boards was the Mach 20 RS with retractable fins (that soon got broke off after a few wipeouts). The Mach 20RS was an interesting experiment that did not catch on! You get a fantastic point of view from the prone position when dropping in and the feeling of being part of the wave as it propels you along is amazing. Great way to keep fit too. Watching this video makes me want to buy a new pair of swim fins and get the old board out (though all my local beaches are flat today). However, not sure what others feel, but its one of those sports that is far better to do than it is to watch. As much as I love bodyboarding - I don't think it has the same cool factor as surfing when it comes to film / video entertainment.
Dude! i get you man. I used to body-board a lot when i was younger but as you get older things just seem to fade without even noticing. It wasn't until this summer I borrowed a friends old BZ and that spark light up and started a new love for the sport. I totally get what you mean with the wow factor in watching surf compared to boog but nah man, surfing, although awesome, still doesn't look as cool to me as someone dropping into a huge face laying down haha. All good tho, keep shredding man!
Nice production! Amazing to see how far the sport has come since I won 2nd place at the Carlsbad Bodyboard Classic, (10 year anniversary of the invention of the bodyboard). Mike Stewart doesn't seem to have aged a day. Great looking production! Well done!!!! Subscribed!
I'm surprised the Pipeline master with the sickest backside tube riding skills-JOB-struggles going left standing on a bodyboard. I don't feel so inadequate struggling going left prone or DK.

Super under-rated video, nice work
Lotta fellas. Lotta fellas. Lotta good guys
It feels like bodyboarding is barely hanging by a thread compared to the 90s hey day of the sport.
STUDENT OF SURFING,NICE!
EVERY wave in this edit cuts to multiple angles - so painful to watch. The most satisfying is just one full view of a wave please!
I agree the chopped up footage blows ass
