what do you guys think this song is about? I really like it, and I've been mulling over the lyrics. At face value, I guess it could be about knowing that a relationship is going to end and grieving it in advance. But the lyrics also seem to allude toward some kind of memory loss -- like the other person in the relationship is slowly losing their memory to dementia or Alzheimers or something. But maybe that's too literal?
The way I see it is like, the narrator can see that the relationship with their partner is starting to wane, and they know this, but a part of them does not want to let go. There seems to be sort of a rift between them -- "Sooner or later, you'll find yourself right where you were / On the corner, went looking for her" I perceive as less literal and more metaphorical; searching for the feeling of love that was lost between the narrator and their partner. The second verse cements my interpretation in my mind (at least for now, while Amber hasn't gone in detail about the meaning of the song), with the lines "Sometimes when you're alone you can't look in her eyes / Her pages are turning so fast in a glance / Can see how it ends and you wish that you couldn't" giving me the feeling that this loss of love is deeply affecting the narrator. The imagery of pages turning quickly is super vivid and symbolizes the other moving on / checking out emotionally, the way I see it. The dying partner or your interpretation about memory loss is valid as well! And I can see that being it But yeah just generally a super melancholic, beautiful song, probably my favorite from the record
So beautiful. I love this song but the live version is just perfect 😍😍 the vocals are so much more raw and so unique. Please bring out a version the way you sing it live!
favorite song of the album lyrics Sooner or later, you'll find yourself right where you were On the corner, went looking for her She had something to tell you, she can't quite remember But wait for a second, it always comes back to her You always come back to her You're still on her time, wherever you are You don't want to go in, so you sit in the car And you wait for a feeling, it never quite hits And you wait for the moment she reaches your lips She never quite hits She'll do that thing where she sits at your feet And it used to be so hot, now it's just sweet You start to cry and she can't help but laugh She says, "Try to enjoy it as long as it lasts" Sometimes when you are alone you can't look in her eyes 'Cause it's like you are reading a book And her pages are turning so fast in a glance You can see how it ends and you wish that you couldn't, uh-huh 'Cause it always comes back to her You always come back to her I drove to the ocean to see the sun set I was on the wrong side of the cliff, so I left I got talking to someone, I gave her a lift to the station She waved as she ran for her train And she had no idea she was making my day Sooner or later, you'll find yourself right where you were On the corner, went looking for her She had something to tell you, she can't quite remember But wait for a second, it always comes back to her You always come back to her You always come back to her You always come back to her Always come back to her

lyrics
Sooner or later, you'll find yourself right where you were
On the corner, went looking for her
She had something to tell you, she can't quite remember
But wait for a second, it always comes back to her
You always come back to her
You're still on her time, wherever you are
You don't want to go in, so you sit in the car
And you wait for a feeling, it never quite hits
And you wait for the moment she reaches your lips
She never quite hits
She'll do that thing where she sits at your feet
And it used to be so hot, now it's just sweet
You start to cry and she can't help but laugh
She says, "Try to enjoy it as long as it lasts"
Sometimes when you are alone you can't look in her eyes
'Cause it's like you are reading a book
And her pages are turning so fast in a glance
You can see how it ends and you wish that you couldn't, uh-huh
'Cause it always comes back to her
You always come back to her
I drove to the ocean to see the sun set
I was on the wrong side of the cliff, so I left
I got talking to someone, I gave her a lift to the station
She waved as she ran for her train
And she had no idea she was making my day
Sooner or later, you'll find yourself right where you were
On the corner, went looking for her
She had something to tell you, she can't quite remember
But wait for a second, it always comes back to her
You always come back to her
You always come back to her
You always come back to her
Always come back to her
One of my favorite!
