    Have a 22 CC, but a co worker had a 23 ft 78 Robalo project boat and had to shed it. So I asked my son if he wanted to do a father/son refurb. Was searching the old YT for tips and now I'm a fan of the channel. Maybe I'll have some extra cash down the road for the patreon, but for now limited budget and a wife thats not to happy about another boat in the barn, UA-cam it is
    Really enjoy the videos. ROĹLTIDE!!!

    the fishing / cleaning content is pretty cool man. i watched it because i love the chanel, cant say ive ever watched a fishing video in my life. im probably the only boat builder that doesn't really fish. just glassed a new floor in my 18' a few hours ago. set the deck into wet glass while it was still daylight and figured id fully laminate / tab it in tomorrow morning...i diddnt check the weather and wouldn't you know its going to storm like crazy tonight. no choice but to setup lights and get to it. it honestly wasn't that bad, i thought it was going to be miserable trying to do it at night but it wasn't bad. i cant help it but to check on the cure like im baking a cake lol. every 30 min or so i hit it with the laser temp gun. i mixed at a little under 2% cat and a dash of styrene monomer, deck seems to be kicking nice and smooth, the roller got to about 130 ish degrees so i threw it in some water. i got about 4 hours till the rain, hopefully it gets thru the heat cycle before then.

      I am almost done with building the hardtop, but the aluminum pipework that supports it is going to be a different phase of the project. I am trying to decide if I want to build it in house, or have a aluminum fab shop do it. I got a couple price quotes and it was quite expensive, so we will see!

    The ONLY way to do Spanish Mackerel is CEVICHE!!! I moved down to the Sea of Cortez from Phoenix a couple of months ago and I've been doing Spanish ceviche lately and it's on another planet! Hands down, quote me, the best fish for ceviche. I caught a decent one like the one in your video last week and made like 3lbs of ceviche in a stainless steel bowl and it lasted 3 days in the fridge and the last bite on day three was just as good as the first bite on day 1. Zero fish taste. You could have fed this to a picky eater and they would have loved it. The key with Spanish is to bleed immediately and then during cleaning and cutting you have to get every spec of red meat out of the fish before it goes into the bowl. Just like fiberglass and painting.... the key is in the PREP WORK. Can't wait for the progress videos on the T-Top. You're the man CAP!

    • @FishBumpTV
      @FishBumpTV  3 місяці тому

    Hey there! Been binge watching all your gelcoat repair videos. Had quick question, is better to mix 406 west systems with resin or gel coat, and if resin what kind? I'm doing a large keel repair on a 1971 Boston whaler Nauset.

    • @FishBumpTV

      You can mix it with either for the most part. I really like working with vinyl Ester resins for repair work, and it's compatible with gelcoat. Fiberglass Warehouse offers a very good vinyl ester at a reasonable price. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!

    I'm not really a fisherman even though I have a boat, but I really enjoyed this video. 🙂 The section on how to process the fish was also very good. There appears to be duct tape on the engine cowlings. Is that for protection from fishing line?
    Just like all of your fiberglass work, you make everything you do look so easy. Looking forward to the next steps on the tower and T-top installation.
    Also, you mention that the 29 gets up on plane easily. What are your thoughts re trim tabs? I recently installed Bennett 12"x12" trim tabs on my Robalo to get the boat up on plane at lower speeds and am trying them out tomorrow for the first time. I don't like running down the river at 25mph but it seems that I need to be going that fast for the boat to plane. If I cruise along at any speed that won't get the boat on plane it feels like the engine has to do a lot of work. As a point of comparison, my boat with a VF200XB engine does 25mph at 3,000rpm and is on plane.

    • @FishBumpTV
      @FishBumpTV  3 місяці тому +1

      Glad you enjoyed the fishing video! The cowling got damaged while we were fighting a big fish and trimmed the motor up into the back seat. Not major, but I didn't want saltwater running down on the motor. I will probably do a video on that when I repair it. Trim tabs can be great, but some boats need then more than others for sure. Sounds like they will be a nice addition to your boat. I appreciate you watching and commenting!

    • @FishBumpTV
      @FishBumpTV  3 місяці тому

      Nope, no plans to run outriggers, but I might in the future. The hardtop is narrow enough so that the rods will clear it on the outside. It's kind of a variation of what's called a key west style hardtop. It more of a serious fishing boat thing. It should work really good for us though. Thanks for watching!

      Yep, I grew up in a boat shop. Our family has been building and repairing boats since the 60s. I think a quality built boat is completely doable for a DIYer. Of course everyone's abilities vary, and I would recommend starting with something much smaller and simpler than our 29. I do plan on building a skiff at some point here on the channel, that should be DIY friendly. So stay tuned and thanks for watching!

    Hay Joe i got a 84 holiday mansion im remodeling. Im having to fill holes and lay new glass on deck and cabin walls in a few spots. It will be months before im actually ready to paint the boat. Will raw glass and filler be ok in the weather for this long ?

    • @FishBumpTV
      @FishBumpTV  3 місяці тому

      I don't personally prefer to leave raw fiberglass exposed to the weather for that long. If it is possible to cover or tent it with a tarp or plastic to give it some protection that would be good. Then I would recommend sanding the surface with some 80 grit and a acetone wipedown prier to resuming work so as to help with the new materials bonding to the old. I hope this helps and I appreciate you watching!
