Garmin is tops in my opinion. Boat is looking KILLER! As a plumber i can say the piping looks nice n neat, tight and right! Channel growing steady, keep killing it Joe!
Thanks, Brother! I appreciate it, man! Yep, I have had really good performance out of my current Garmin setup. You guys are really going to love this boat, can't wait to get you out in it! Thanks again for watching!
As usual, this is a true craftsman at work. Have enjoyed each of these videos so much. Looks great Joe. Can't wait to see it... and you in person soon!!
Coming out great! A trick I used when installing my battery switch was to wrap the hole saw bit with some sandpaper and run it back through the hole. Opens it up evenly if you don't have a die grinder.
Thank You so much! You Know That is a really good suggestion! If it is cool with you I will try to show that trick in one of our videos. Appreciate you watching and commenting, it really helps the channel!
Nice job thanks for sharing!!! I'll like to say that... since you install classic batteries there is necessary some kind of ventilation inside there (a little air blower and a covered opening shall be enough) you see these batteries produce vapours.... Best regards from Hellas (Greece)!!!
Thanks, Gel coat can be tricky in hot weather. The warmer it is, the faster it is going to cure. I always try to work in the shade, sunlight will speed up cure times. If you can work very early in the morning when it is cooler. And you can even try cooling down the gel coat to extend cure times. In a perfect world, I would like low humidity and temps in the 70s. Hope that helps!
Glad you are enjoying the videos! Yes,the batteries are mounted in heavy duty battery trays. They were just set in there at that for spacing things out.
SOOOOOO many videos on here with people doing the absolute worst things and prime examples of what one should never do butchering their boats acting like they know what to do spreading horrible info. This is absolutely not one of those videos. I freaking love that hull. Good job dudes, and thanks for putting out detailed and very informative content! I dont think you can go wrong with either Garmin or Simard these days.
Wow, thanks so much for the comment! We really are trying to put out some good content, that is not a waste of Your time. Glad you like the hull, I am very happy with how it performs so far. We have more sea trials coming soon! I agree, Garmin and Sim Rad both make quality products. It's a big decision for sure! Thanks for watching and commenting, it really helps the channel!
I appreciate your comment! I have been running Garmins for almost ten years, 200 plus trips a season, in salt water. My Garmins have been flawless, not one problem! I think there are pros and con's for every brand though. Thanks for watching!
Yes, raymarine makes a good product. I have had really good success with garmin, and decided to go back with them. I am very happy so far! Thanks for watching
Love the videos. Sorry if you have already answered this but dis you originally make your boat mold from a software platform? Always wondered where the original design came from.
Thanks, Glad you are enjoying the videos! I grew up in a boat-building family, so I designed this boat based on my needs for my charter business. I used a scale ruler and graph paper to lay out the original plans, and then we made adjustments as needed. Sorry I do not have any videos of the design and plug-building process, I wish I did. I appreciate you watching and commenting!
I have just never been a fan of foam rollers for working with polyester and vinyl ester resins. They don't load up as fast and sometimes they just fall apart midway through a job. Foam rollers can work well with epoxy resins because they introduce much air into the resin. Of course, everyone is welcome to use whatever they want to use, but I will continue to use what works best for me. I hope this helps and thanks for watching!
I kind of wish I had gone with Hummingbird graphs for my Minn Kota Riptide Terrova trolling motor. I really want to be able to program the trolling motor to ride a contour line at a certain speed. Granted, most of my fishing is mountain lakes in NE Georgia, but I could see where that would be useful inshore and maybe even offshore reef fishing too. Don't know how well Hummingbird graphs work for saltwater though. Something to look into.
Thanks for your input! We do not see many hummingbird products down in salt water. I know they have been around a long time, and a lot of people seem to like them. I appreciate you watching and commenting!
Are you going to put gaskets on the hatches ? I’m building my boat right now with all Coosa and I’m trying to plan out building the hatches and am gonna do it just like you did but I want to put rubber gaskets but not sure how.
I have not put any kind of gasket on them yet. They seem to hold ice very well even without a gasket. I am sure a gasket would make them hold ice even better, and be quieter too. I have not settled on a method for gasketing them, as it would need to be very durable for my application. If you find a material you really like, or have any suggestions I would be interested to hear it. Thanks for watching!
Thanks for your thoughts! Did you know that Lowrance and SIM RAD are owned by the same company? I didn't until I started doing my research. Yep, I plan on building a Key west style hard top for the BEAST! just trying to line up my time and money. I like ole Aaron Young, He is like the Bob Ross of spearfishing! Gotta be one of the chillest guys ever. He has got mad skills though, very cool to watch! Appreciate You watching and commenting! It really helps the channel.
Thanks, I used a stainless pan head machine screw, with a lock nut. I will try to show that in the next vid. Appreciate you watching, and commenting, it really helps the channel!
I have a 22 foot all Craft with a cracked stringer and the deck is glued down to what I call the cap. I wanted to remove the rub rail all the way around make the cut at the rub rail and then remove the deck. can I get that off? Can it be pried up with wedges to break that glue bond while applying upward pressure?
Not all boats are assembled the same way, so it is hard to say for sure. But in my experience, it can be very difficult to remove the cap, without damaging something else in the process. There isn't really an easy way to get to the stringers. One way is to cut the floor itself out, leaving a 2 to 3-inch flange around the edges which gives you something to fiberglass back to. Hope this helps. Good luck with your project, and thanks for watching!
I don't have a time to start hull number 2 yet. I will be running fishing trips and working on the UA-cam channel over the next few months. I am open to talking to anyone about possibly selling the molds or partnering with someone who would like to go into production. We will see where it goes.
Simrad makes some very nice units. Several of my buddies run them and seem to like them a lot. We are Going to be building a key west-style fiberglass hardtop. Just trying to line up my time and money, it takes a lot of both for a project like this! Thanks for watching, and commenting! It really helps the channel.
I would recommend using some of the 3M dry guide coat for the wet sanding process. It really helps you to know where you have already removed enough material, without removing too much. If you have to re- gel coat the area, apply more than you think you need, that way you have more of a buffer zone.
I recommend using the 3M guide coat when you start the wet sanding process. It really helps you to know when to stop sanding. Would also apply more gel coat than you normally would, so that you have more of a buffer zone.
I am thinking mid to upper 40's. I have a boat tour video on the channel if you want to see more detail. I would be happy to talk if you need more info. Thanks for watching!
Furuno makes some good stuff! We used to run them a while back on some big boats, but you don't see them on many boats in our area anymore. I don't know why that is. I will have to look into that! Thank you for watching and commenting.
Thank you for the shoutout to The Hope Chest Upholstery! Jay and I appreciate it!
No problem 👍 I appreciate you guys.
All the wiring and hardware looks so tidy and professional. Good job.
Thanks, Kenneth! We are trying to finish this thing out right! I Appreciate you watching and commenting, it really helps the channel.

Thanks! Glad you like the blue shirt!

Sooo much useful information and benefits of your experience!
I am glad you found the videos to be helpful! And I really appreciate you watching and commenting!
Great videos man!
Glad you like them!
Great stuff! I was working with gelcoat today and it was going off in 10 min with 1/2 activator.

I have really enjoyed this series. The batteries looked like they were just sitting there. Are you going to anchor them?
Glad you are enjoying the videos! Yes,the batteries are mounted in heavy duty battery trays. They were just set in there at that for spacing things out.

Humming bird has been stepping up.....but I think Garmin is a reliable choice.....

I like the Raymarine brand of fish locator/GPS units on my boat.
Yes, raymarine makes a good product. I have had really good success with garmin, and decided to go back with them. I am very happy so far! Thanks for watching
Can you make a video and tell people how to run that tape around the hatches. So it is even and uniform. ….Pretty Work Capt. Joe!!!
I sure can! Thanks for the suggestion!
Simrad EV03s paired with Airmar 175H duel chirp
You can read 1000' at 30 knots!

I'm not sure why you don't use the foam rollers? Must be easier than wrapping the fluffy ones in tape.

Foam rollers can work well with epoxy resins because they introduce much air into the resin. I'd go with either simrad or garmin for GPS capabilities on one side and then hummbird for sonar and side scan on the other
Thanks for your thoughts, I think all of them have different, good qualities. It's a big decision for sure!

are you going to make more boats and sell them? great skills too
Possibly, I would also consider selling the molds or partnering with someone. Appreciate you watching and commenting!
ah ok , plenty of options, nice one @@FishBumpTV
Lowrance HDS 12 Touch Screen might be the best on the market but @KeyWestWaterman prefers SIM RAD all the way! You guys putting a T-Top on this beast?

@@FishBumpTV Yea he seems like a super cool guy but you're pretty cool too Cpt. Joe. Can't wait to see this thing all fitted out. Great build!
is gel coat the top coat if not what type of paint do you use after gel??
Yes, the gel coat is the top coat. Thanks for watching!
@@FishBumpTV do I need to do a primer before the gel coat and can I add a Pigments to the gel coat?
Looks great! When attaching the hinges to the coosa hatch lids, did you screw them or nut and bolt them?
Thanks, I used a stainless pan head machine screw, with a lock nut. I will try to show that in the next vid. Appreciate you watching, and commenting, it really helps the channel!

How do you make repair’s on non skid looks like sand paper
That can be tricky. I will try to make a video on that topic soon for you guys.
