man i love using a cali76 for active 5 string tapping JUST like all the classic recordings
Pure Motown vibes, oh yeah
Bruh!
What a great explanation of how these pedals work. Beautiful sound clips too. This is my favorite demo of this pedal.
Thanks for the awesome video, +basstheworldbyvideo - keep up the good work!
Hi, could you provide the S/N ratio(@1kHz) and distortion(%) of these pedals? Thanks
Anyone else's auto captions come out with "hi this is Craig from vegetable calm and these are the Kelly is 76"? 😂
Excellent demo non the less! 👌
I like the formerly United Kingdom remark ,well done
Great video ! I'd like to see Rene try out more basses tho
I have the Callie 76 bass compressor it's a little finicky it takes you awhile I run my high pass filter 10:00 that way the low ends not sticking out too much over top of the other notes.
Playing the bass part of D'Angelo's "Shit, Damn, Muthaphucca"...nice! 🎸🎧🎶
Hymn
Haha I was just thinking that. Different notes, but the same rhythm/shape of the phrase
wow a excellent review
Formally? We're still United (for now, at least)
they discontinued the large version hmmm
Well they sound fantastic. Question, is it worth buying the The Cali76-TX-L instead of the little guy? I'm asking because I just bought the compact bass version, now a tad worried, perhaps I should have bought the larger one? I forgot to say, it hasn't arrive yet, hence the question.
Hi Gregor! Please review the Effectrode PC-2A Compressor pedal!
Don’t tell me - tell Effectrode!
The big unit is going for dumb prices now that are way too much. Don’t buy it on the inflated used market people.
2 suggestions as an alternative -Get a JHS color box v2 to use with the small unit as it’s got the same transformer as the big unit….:and try a stacked version of the small unit. You can thicken it up more (and still get the general tone of the deluxe when using just one of the comps) …..Both of those will be way cheaper than the 1500 -2k plus prices the TX models are going for 2nd hand. The Neve/1176 combo is what that is basically. Tried and true. In this video of course the big unit on its own sounds thicker. But do those I mentioned and you won’t need the big one….:also the UAD 1176 for recording is just as good IMO. Add the 2 above and UAD if you can and you’ll never need the big box. YMMV but I think I’m pretty on point.
Top review. Danke
very nice great
Cali76 Compact Bass with the HPF makes it a dual band and parallel compressor in one. Nice! What is the S/N ratio and distortion of these pedals?
Check the website for numbers. It's pretty much noiseless to my ear
why am I here? I don't even have a bass
welcome to the dark side :)
BassTheWorld.com btw, how much is the reasonable price for a bass guitar?
+Dat Dang I'm a beginner too and id say for your first bass 350 max
it was 3000 dollars for my first bass. I have a jazz bass
best bass without butchering your budget and that you won't want to change once you learn how to play, yamaha trbx line.
I don't hear any difference, with or without compressor, Rene is too good and have a natural compressor in the hand.
+Saxoprane it helps to use decent speakers or headphones. Compression is in most cases a rather subtle effect
Awesome compressors! Are you using them now also for recording or are you using your studio rack compressors?
I kept the big one and use it on my pedal board now. For recording in the studio I'll stick to the 19" units. But when we're recording on the road, it might come to use.
+BassTheWorld.com good to know...so the rack units still win. tnx for the answer!
I wouldn't say they win. It's just more convenient to record a bass into a decent mic pre and then going into an compressor. I'm switching between multiple preamps and compressors all the time. The Cali76 sounds great for recording, but that's not the purpose I need it for.
hey, thanks for the great review.
i am looking for something for both guitar & bass - which one you would recommend the compact bass on guitar or the guitar compact on bass?
In this case I'd buy the compact deluxe
BassTheWorld.com I thought they both have the same compressor engine except that the bass version has a HPF. If you are playing guitar will you still use the compressor and ignore the HPF? That way when ready to play your bass you are set. Will you elaborate on your choice... thanks for the video.
I bought this Cali 76 Compact Bass. This after my Markbass died after 2 months. But what I miss on this pedal is a Threshold knob. When I don't play, the compressor goes full on and so the pedal makes the PreAmp of my Stingray louder, what gives a hissing noise. It would be better with a threshold to avoid this. Or do I miss something? Any reaction or comment can help me. Now I have to leave my 'input' at 11 o'clock to avoid this.
But, in fact ... The "In" "button is the Threshold button, no!?
@@pierremilleret698 no, this is the button to adjust the input level. Not a threshold. The threshold adjust the point that the compressor starts to work. With the Cali the small amount of noise will be compressed and be level up to a higher volume. So this is why I miss a threshold to avoid the little noises of the pickups of the preamp of the bass.
@@edwin.declerck I haven't used this pedal (considering buying one). But for what it's worth, 1176s do not have threshold knobs like some other compressors. They were always designed to have the threshold controlled by the "Input" knob.
@@funkle271 at this moment I can’t miss this pedal anymore. It makes my sound so consistent, big, strong. And yes… I still miss the threshold. It would be better that the pedal cuts off the low levels. It would eliminate the small hissing noise of the Stingray pre amp. With a passive bass I don’t have this problem. But it took me some time to learn how this pedal works. It’s a keeper for sure….
Empress or Cali76?
Im a lil bit confuse to choose between the other like keeley or mxr, a guilar tlc, darkglass, or the cheapest TC spectra.......... Can u give me a way out, what do u prefer? Thx
if it's your first time using compression get something with the light meter like the MXR M87, Darkglass, Empress or others like it. Having better visual metering will help you understand how much you're compressing. You might not hear much of a difference but you'll be able to see it. It helps because not all basses will light up the compressor the same. They all require different settings.
I went for the Keely as its simple to use and sounds great. Its also half the price of the Cali76.
Formerly united kingdom killed me 😂
Great demo guys! Thanks so much, this just what i needed to hear!!
why using a compressor? does it help in the notes difinition?
*definition (sorry)
You can use a compressor to even the dynamics, to increase sustain or to increase perceived volume without increasing the peaks.
How would you compare the small one to a Mxr m87?
as much as I like MXR pedals, I've never really been into the compressor. These here work much better for me.
The Cali76 Standard isnt even availible on their own website, will it be?
it is! origineffects.com/product/cali76-tx/
Top google search says no! : origineffects.com/product/cali76-std/
They just changed the name, how silly.
they make a limited series in red of these right now.... rad... just sayin ;)
It looks a lot cooler , but it's also a lot cheaper then the 'normal' one
Hi Joey! Just to be clear - the Cali76-STD and Cali76-TX are not the same design. The -STD has a transistor output stage where as the -TX has a transformer output stage and more connectivity options.
We discontinued the -STD a while ago and the -TX took over as our large-format Cali76 pedal. We have just produced a limited run of 100 -STD pedals in a red finish, which are available from a selection of our dealers.
How user-friendly is it?
Very
A German man who speaks English😂 nice accent
The little guys just don't have the warmth and sparkle of the big unit
Great video though...
Formerly or Formally lol
Formerly... sorry for my terrible accent
Цена - жесть!
какашка :)
+FabioRosolino если реально по 1176 сделали, то звучать должен великолепно! Но 600 баксов - перебор
Я думаю, что , как вы друг ;)
Where's the bald presenter guy?
牛逼
Less talk, more tone next time...
"Out of the formely United Kingdom"
Hm.

Bla bla bla.... Play !
