@@anglchnn if all you play is esports games then sure go ahead. I have a feeling though that you use ocean view FPS as a reason for a high refresh rate monitor. If you can't get that "400 fps" in MW2 most of the time then it doesnt matter. Even with a 13900k and a 4090 people get anywhere from 150 or so FPS to 200 at 1080p.
This is really interesting, I didn't know that kind of improvement could be made in a firmware update. Which makes me wonder if Samsung could fix, or at least improve, the ghosting on their 'flagship' NEO QLED QN90B monitor. It's the only VA panel I've ever used and I was shocked at how noticeable it is, sometimes making game scenes a blurry mess because it varies depending on the contrast between colours. You definitely don't need a high speed camera to see it!! The display is very good in all other ways. Is this typical of VA panels? And, more importantly, is it something that could be fixed or improved in firmware? I'd appreciate your expert opinion on this, thanks. 🙂
VA panels are much harder to strobe-tune, due to their very slow darks-to-darks pixel response. However, overdrive most assuredely and certainly can be improved via firmware updates. However, the advantage remains IPS & TN, but OLED is actually able to produce even clearer motion.
@@SB-mr2nk Actually, based on what I know -- that's only part of the story. The G-SYNC native processor is a very flexible processor, typically from an FPGA, with a lot of memory compared to other monitors -- that has enough computing power to do really estosteric custom-algebra-math on a per-pixel basis (at billions of subpixels per second, 360Hz of 2560x1440 x R/G/B). They just changed the OD LUTs/formulas to a better OD LUT/formula, based on newer measurements (probably photodiodes and/or high speed spectrophotometers, etc). So it is not as easy as turning it on; it just was computing power already available that could be upgraded with better software/LUTs/formulas.
Overdrive algorithms, historically, are a software formula. In the research papers about LCD overdrive, the simplest formula involves A(B) = C on a per-subpixel value (R independent of G independent of B). Where A is start pixel value, B is end pixel value, and C is the intentionally overshot pixel value to speed transition from A to B. This can be improved with more advanced formulas or algebra, that has awareness of the other color channels (R/G/B) while computing an overdriven value for one color channel.
@@BlurBusters Thank you. So, is this calculated based on parameters stored in firmware? Or is it possible to tweak the formula in software to improve ghosting? I'm guessing it's not possible or it wouldn't be an issue. It's just surprising how slow it is compared to the refresh rate. At 100Hz pixels are redrawn every 10 milliseconds. But, without any way to measure it, it looks like it takes 100s of milliseconds in many cases. What I'm still not clear on is if this is simply typical with VA panels, or if it can be improved in firmware or drivers.
So TLDR for anybody who's not a pro, Asus ips just cleared Zowie without question, with a simple Firmware update Now we wait 360hz+ Oled 👀 Great video tho 💙
Experimented with it but it lowers the brightness considerably when you start turning it down. Gonna circle back with the engineers tomorrow and dig into it more.
I just upgraded my CPU to a 7800X3D from a 4770k so it's easy for me to cap FPS on my PG278Q now. Gsync locked to 144 FPS was okay, but I experiminted with my monitor with ULMB for the first time and boy does it make a difference. After using ULMB I can't go back no ULMB, even OLED is much better with BFI. I can't imagine how good ULMB 2 is at 360 Hz is compared to 144 Hz.
I wonder it this only works at max refresh? Or are some lower setting also available? Such as 100/120/144/240hz etc. It's bfi, so should work, but would require tuning/timing for those refreshes.
good question I hope it's not only for 360 because that was my big problem with the asus 27 oled 240hz it looked okay at 240fps but in games you can't reach that like my heavily modded skyrim...as soon as the fps dipped the oled became very blurry for a 1-2 seconds, gave me headaches very jarring unpleasant experience, something that requires very high fps is doomed
I recently bought this monitor and ULMB2 significantly dims the screen like he mentioned in the video. BF2042 is nearly unplayable on darker maps while Fortnite is fine. I actually run GSYNC @ 360hz and motion clarity is still great.

Yeah that would be the tippity top. But they have to give us an OLED with enough brightness overhead.
I’ve been going back and forth but I think I’m gonna stay with the OLED as my main.
@@badseedtech seeing how well the c1 was able to implement 120 hz bfi with limited brightness it had makes me think we should not be far away from a bfi oled gaming monitor that is bright enough to use especially with the new mla tech with a glossy screen possibly. Maybe 1 more generation to go.
How do you update? I downloaded the latest NVIDIA driver, but do I have to update the monitor itself?
You will have to download an updater for the monitor and flash the firmware. Its a super quick process but they likely haven't posted it yet with the weird time difference on the announcement. Probably be up by morning.
@@badseedtech Yeah the webpage doesn't even load for me lmao
which one would you prefer? i cannot decide which one to choose for my monitor..
Have the ACER XB273UF and still no firmware update available from what I can tell. Contacted support and they said "keep checking the site" "we can't help you"..
Can I ask. Is it possible just to record using software the UFO motion for a minute or so. Then using video software to slow it down to the same speed as these high speed camera's?
Using Blur Busters what exact settings do you use?
I mean, Imagine the Swift Pro from Asus with ULMB 2 *AND* 540 Hz.
Ladies and gentlemen, THAT might be a powerhouse when it comes out.
As cool as 480hz plus is that’s a pretty unreasonable fps count. Too many games can’t even hit 240 with high end hardware.
@@heatnupa lot of eSports get 500+
@@heatnup all esports games except apex (300fps lock) and cod(max i saw ~400fps) can run 500+, and it wont need any ulmb or dyac for clarity
@@anglchnn I think COD MW2 was one of the worst examples you could have given for a high refresh rate game that game is terribly CPU bottlenecked.
It had this at launch, they just turned it on.
So TLDR for anybody who's not a pro, Asus ips just cleared Zowie without question, with a simple Firmware update
Now we wait 360hz+ Oled 👀

Hey I need the firmware now! The Asus website is down!
Nvm it’s up and got the firmware updated!!
This Update is Amazing... i feel like i play on my old dyac Zowie.... Mr badseed did you test the ulmb2 pulse width?
Experimented with it but it lowers the brightness considerably when you start turning it down. Gonna circle back with the engineers tomorrow and dig into it more.

Thanks for sharing this!!
I can't imagine how good ULMB 2 is at 360 Hz is compared to 144 Hz.
is it going to work with the pg279qm ? their previous top 1440p 240hz monitor ?
Still rocking a Asus PG278Q from 2014.
Hey Seed, what speed settings were you using during the UFO test? I appreciate you did it but would appreciate if its mentioned!
Also it's good to test the monitor at its advertised speed (1440) for the best results instead of the default 960.
interesting stuff, I haven’t heard any mention of this anywhere else
I'm still running 1440p at 144hz and will be for a while, but I'm very excited once I upgrade to frame rates this high.
I love Oled and how it looks but I'm a huge fan of VA for FPS, BR, Arena shooter. Idk I haven't really had good luck with IPS monitors and IPS glow. For now All my monitors are VA. When it comes time to upgrade my rig which it will be soon. Ill probably upgrade my monitors too. But that's where I am not sure what I wanna go with.
Is it just me, or did Asus removed the FW Update ? Service Site is not available anymore....
ULMB 2 WITH THE 540HZ PG248QP IS GOING TO BE NUTS !
LETS GOO ULMB is the shit, this is exciting stuff

I would do a factory reset before and after the flash.

2. Unplug power brick from wall
3. Also, completely disconnect the connection cable that goes _from_ the power brick _to_ the wall
4. Plug everything back in

Ulmb2 is the brightest out of all of them.
@@Evan-xs8ts really not and i had both of them. Dyac is double bright that ulmb 2. I dont use it on my screen

Don't need an nVidia GPU to take advantage? I haven't figured out how to get it working on AMD 7900XTX. Works fine with my old 3070.

will that be available on laptop and 240hz once?
You mentioned that you don't need an Nvidia GPU to use this, but to enable it you need the Nvidia control panel (?)
Negative. Doesn't need to be manually enabled anywhere but on the monitor itself. The only thing you need to do on the PC side is disable whatever VRR you're using.

If you're serious about competitive fps and want the best then get the 360hz especially with this firmware update its now the clearest monitor, even compared to the zowie 360hz due to it being 1440p and having more detail overall. Watch optimum techs video from today.
DUMB QUESTION but does this work only a the 1440P 360hz or also on the 1080P

will this come for the ASUS ROG Strix XG27AQM too?
hey
are you going to review the new g pro x 2 headphones from Logitech? i really value your reviews

0:17 can anyone confirm this?
Does it only work at 360hz or will is work at 144hz and 120hz?
THAT is THE question! It's much easier to achieve lower than 360hz, and bfi should work the same in terms of clarity at lower refreshes. So you would be getting the same picture at say 100hz, but it would have to be timed/tuned to a given refresh rate.
What pulse width setting was used for your testing out of curiosity? Does a higher or lower pulse width improve motion clarity?
A lower pulse width improves motion clarity at the cost of brightness.
How does it look when you're not getting constant 360fps?
So where do I get the firmware the link is just geforce I guess we wait for the update

OLED with ULMB 2 when? 🐵
Probably when it gets double the sdr brightness compared to what we have now.
Yep thats it exactly. They have a black frame insertion mode that's similar but they brightness is holding them back. Gonna be a while I bet.
oled already has practically no motion blur at all fast pixels and all yknow
@@user-vp2ve4sh7hthere's a different kind of blur that our brain sees because of sample and hold technology. Our brains expect smooth motion but OLED is so fast the image is there instantly then stays still until the next frame. Do some research on it, OLED is the perfect candidate for ULMB and it makes a massive difference. Seen this in person on my LG C1. Check hardware unboxed C1 review (black frame insertion section) for a demonstration. Only issue is the brightness
In my point of view all oled needs is higher refresh rate displays cause normal panels just have it in speed while the fastest oled we have today is 240hz , other display tech casually have 360hz and 480hz etc
Wish this was able to be done on 1440p 270hz and 300hz asus models. Dont see why they couldn't do that on say a XG27AQM
