Moving Time Lapse - Cleanup (Part 1)

  • In preparation for selling our house, we did a lot of cleanup work. It now actually looks like a regular house, instead of a nuclear test site, like it did before (in my opinion). These videos were recorded between December 5th and January 31th. More time lapse videos will be coming in the next few months as we are in the process of moving.
The majority of the video is sped up 120x real speed, although some parts are played between 60x and 1000x.
The first 9 minutes of the video were recorded with my phone using a time lapse app and a wide angle lens I made that I glued over the camera. At 8:12, the lens falls off because I tried to hold it on with tape after the glue failed. Starting at 8:57, I recorded the rest of the time lapses with a GoPro camera which is a lot higher quality.
If you have any suggestions for how the next parts can be better, let me know in the comments!

I am able to look past the ton of stuff that was present in the house and see the home that belonged to a closely-knit family. You and your family members must have had a ton of beautiful memories in that place. This video makes me think of my own home where I grew up.

Thanks for your comment! I understand why not many people like to clean windows, but when I make time lapse videos of everything I do, I enjoy looking back on it and sharing it with people, so it suddenly makes it more worth it for me to do all the work I do.

I love the split second moments when you see a member of your family making faces at the cameras, or laughing with each other during the work.

    • @joshuareynolds5219
      @joshuareynolds5219  4 роки тому +1

Glad you liked those moments, I found them funny too especially because I wasn't always working with my family and would see the footage later. I'll admit if I were to make this video again I would have probably edited those out, but I am a bit more of a perfectionist now. Back when I made this video, I was 15 and had 0 subscribers so I would describe this video as being a bit more carefree than my recent videos.

Lol that is probably true. I did clean a lot of the house and I recorded everything I did. However my parents and sister did do a lot also, but some of the time I didn't know they were cleaning to set the camera up, or had the camera busy filming myself. I sometimes had two cameras going during the really busy days, but i didn't film necessary all of what my parents did so it looks like I did a lot more.

The process shown in this video was just getting the house ready for the realtor to show it, and I remember on days the house was being shown I would just throw everything from my room in the closet and hope nobody opened it. Once the house actually sold and we had a move out date, it was a bit more stressful but with the date constantly in the back of our minds we were able to finish everything, as I show in part 2 video.

Hi Natalia, the whole move went very well and we have been living at the new place for almost 2 years. Good luck on your move, from my experience the fewer things you can bring and have to deal with at the new place, the better. I'm glad you asked about the technology part of the video because I am very into technology and nobody has been interested in that so far. When I recorded this video, I used my old Galaxy S3 phone for the first half of it with a wide angle lens, and the phone ran a time lapse app but I noticed that app isn't available to download anymore. The rest of this video was recorded with a GoPro camera which I had been saving up for throughout this time, and I recommend that for filming a move because it is very reliable, has a very wide angle lens so you can see a whole room without having to move the camera a lot, and most importantly it can produce video clips already in time lapse which saves a TON of time over using the phone which required post processing and complicated stuff. It is also good to get a tripod, as well as a USB power bank so the camera can be continuously powered for hours. If you use the GoPro, you will need a skeleton housing to connect the USB power bank to the camera because the regular housing covers the GoPro's connections. The GoPro has a setting called "video time lapse", and you can adjust the interval at which it takes pictures, and I normally used 2 seconds because I can make the video run faster in editing. After you film everything, bring the files into your computer and you can edit them. I used vegas movie studio for this, but any editor such as windows movie maker should actually be fine. Basically just add all the video clips into the timeline in the order you want, adjust the speed to make them run faster, and add music to the final video. I used music from the UA-cam audio library for this video because I didn't know about other channels with copyright free music at the time. You can probably find information on using the GoPro and editing online for whatever camera and software you use, but it is actually pretty simple once you get started. It is very interesting to be able to watch back the whole move after filming it and it is great to be able to share it with other people. Let me know if I can help with the technology part of this anymore. If you do make the video of your move, I will definitely watch it!

OMG I am not even halfway into video and can not believe how much shit you all have accumulated. How long did you live there? I've been in my place for over 30 years and never had so much stuff. I guess you all have been to busy to just spend the time to cull and reorganize. OK now to get back to watching.

Thanks for watching the whole video anyway! We are a family of 4, but still that is a ridiculous amount of stuff. We are busy a lot but we somehow have time to keep accumulating stuff without clearing out old stuff and only when it came time to move did we suddenly have hours available to sort it, but we still kept too much. I have "packing" and "unpacking" videos from this process and even though we got rid of almost half our stuff it wasn't nearly enough. It makes an interesting video though because it is basically the worst case scenario of a move!

Our house was about average size for a city, around 2500 Sq feet but it was packed to the ceiling in some areas which makes it look a lot bigger.

How long does it take to complete this process?

The whole process of packing and moving took 6 months from when we started packing until we moved into the new house. We worked several hours per day almost 7 days a week, and I recorded most of the process.

Is that normal house or shop or store or what is that exactly ??? There are 1000's things in one house ... why this place us upside down?

It was a house but the amount of stuff is definitely more than I would consider "normal", we lived in the house for about 16 years and didn't really ever do a full cleanout until it was time to move
