Went to my local Army recruiting station, did a physical, did an ASVAB and immediately changed my mind. The Army just seems worse than I thought. The guys there were laughing at me, my recruiter that was taking me thought the steps too fast was trying to get me to do college credits and get my HS diploma from some expensive private school.. f that. I want to enlist in the Navy instead. I plan on doing 4 years as either a sailor or a damage controlman and get my bachelors to try and become a pilot. The Navy just motivates me more than the Army and they have a better quality of life.
3 deployments for me to the middle east in the Persian Gulf is where it was at in the 90's during desert Storm. Tax free, free mail... Good experience. Came home with over $6000 after 6 to 8 months deployed. Plus hazardous pay, for me flight deck pay.

I served during the late '70s and early '80s. Some things have changed a lot and others, not so much. My son joined in 2009 right out of high school. He did well on the ASVAB and the DLAB. He went through bootcamp and immediately signed up to put money into the TSP. DO THAT! That is the military version of a 401k. He went to language school and worked his ass off and got a good assignment coming out of school. He worked hard and played hard. He met a gorgeous blonde and they got married and celebrated 10 years in August. One thing I told him and I'm telling you. The Navy will get everything out of you. You get everything out of the Navy. After my son finished his in-rating training and quals, he was free to start working on his degree. He deployed to the sandbox a few times and while he was there, if he wasn't flying, he was studying. He got his degree 100% paid for by Navy TA and GI Bill. His GI bill paid for his wife's degree and there is money left for their kids! My son made chief in 2021. Two weeks after he was pinned, he learned he had been selected for OCS. He was commissioned two years ago and is now a LTJG and making a six figure income (O2e over 14 years)! It is there if you want it bad enough! Think of it, two degrees with ZERO student loans!!

Your recruiter should get you in somewhere that has a pool to teach you. So you can practice. You need to know how to swim somewhat when you get there. Learn to swim on your back is the easiest way. That is part of a recruiters job. Just my opinion.
USAF veteran here who served way back from (1998-2004). Bro your channel is so funny haha. Eslscially when you talk about swimming, just saying well there's three other branches you can join and you're not lying. It's mind boggling to see how many of these young cats can't swim. Sad. It's a basic life skill every living breathing able bodied human should know how to do damn. I was taught by my uncle when i was 6 years old He pushed me in the 10ft deep end of his pool and even told my mom just wait he'll be okay. Bro i was straight cupping water and off kicking my legs hahahaha. Suddenly though i started surfacing and within 30 mins i was swimming all over that pool.
