Love the video! Always learn something new from your videos. Stephens King's On Writing was the first writing craft book I've bought and it's become one of my favorites. Adding the other writing craft books to my list as well. Looking forward to the book essays you've mentioned.😊
Loving these lists! Very helpful! I'm reaching a point in my life where I desperately want to rekindle the creativity that has been stifled by all the years of emotional turmoil and, y'know, just the daily grind. I've been feeling a bit like Sam and Frodo wanderung lost in the marshes of late. 😂🙄
@@olivia.grace.cook.Thank you for the kind words! When I was a kid, the only "dream" I ever really had was to be the next Tolkien. I still hope to one day! For now, I'm just living vicariously through you and others who are actually embarking on their storytelling journeys. 😅 So thank you so much for sharing your journey!
Oh wow, I also read *Art and Faith* for my writing program and loved it! Thank you for making this video. I found some new reads and loved hearing your take on them. Keep up the good work and can't wait for the video essays. ☺️
I love that you did this! I am older but new to writing and a MFA is not in the cards at the moment. I've been designing my own program so this will be helpful.
Love this! I received my MFA from Naropa University in 2022 and most of our reading list was hybrid/ poetry. It's cool to see how other programs incorporate fiction. I actually ended up writing fiction by the end of it, and I have a novel coming out this month!
Interesting to see how a Masters program differed from my BA at Michigan. I don't envy you having to read as much as you did 😅 I got to study Beowulf in its original Old English, it brings the poetic quality to the max
Also depends on where you do it. Not all creative writing programs are created equal. My creative writing teacher during my BA was.... underwhelming. But I have heard of some amazing professors that I think could have helped me grow a lot had I had the chance to study under them!

Loooved this video, Olivia! What a treat. A Place for Us is one of my top ten novels from the past decade. I loved it so much.
Isn't it AMAZING?! 😍 It's so good, it haunts me.

I feel you. Hang in there! I hope you find pieces of art that rekindle that love of creativity again. 💛

Thank you, Morgan! You're so encouraging. 💛 😊

Wow, congrats on your upcoming novel release! That's such an incredible achievement. 🫶
the wing feather saga is INCREDIBLE!! so is all creatures great and small
This is awesome I'd love to see your bibliography of everything you read for your degree
Thanks so much! Between this video and part two (on the fantasy books I read), this actually covers my entire MFA bibliography! Hope that helps. 💛
I am doing a bachelor's in england, half of it being creative writing, so it s really really nice to see what other have to read for a similar degree❤
🥹 ❤️

You studied Beowulf in OLD ENGLISH?! What an incredible experience! 🥹
I feel the same way about Practical Magic. I loved the movie, but was incredibly disappointed when I read the book.
I am glad I haven't gone through university and done a creative writing degree, it seems a waste of time to me, unless you enjoy writing bad poetry.
Depends on what you do with it. I had a plan for a marketing career and a plan for my writing aspirations.
