Mine was just a leak. You, might need a rear end rebuild. I’d pull the cover and see what going on with the gears. I hope this helps. I appreciate the feedback 👍
The seal did not come with the sealant. It’s called anaerobic seal. Helps create a better seal where new gasket meets the metal. I hope this helps. I appreciate the feedback 👍
@@FamousAndFallen unfortunately it would need to be lifted safely and secure. The truck will roll with the drive shaft removed. Also will need to rotate rear axle to remove bolts on driveshaft for the vehicle will be ignition off and in neutral. Be safe. I hope this helps. I appreciate the feedback..👍
It is best to remove the cover. Some people just use a vacuum pump to suck out the old fluid. Fill plug is the level and only way to suck out fluid without removing cover.
@@MrRazoramono late response but for future inquiries that's just a "reference technique" during a quick fix, from an engineering standpoint the carrier/ring gear should be removed to verify crush sleeve preload allows 15-20 in-lbs of pinion gear rotational force after 210+ Ft-lbs on the nut.
If you have a leak and catch it in time, you can get away with just a seal, but if you have any noises coming from the rear need more than just seal, you’re wasting your time to change the seal at that point usually the pinion bearing is bad, but Whole differential has to be disassembled to get to bearing.
I've noticed that you've something on the outer side of the seal, Do you have to put RTV silicon or grease between the diff mating surface and the seal before pressing it in?
I had this seal replaced and still leaks plus now I have humming sound when I descend and did not have before replacing seal? For the leak should there been the red sealant you put on for better sealing? And why now the humming its weird
Are you talking about the driveshaft? I mark thing to make sure everything is back in its original place. Always use manufacturers torque specifications.
Probably needs the different rebuilt or replaced. Usually the case when you hear humming from the rear differential. Especially during deceleration. I hope this helps 👍
Good video no shaking no talking no pointing the camera to random things I’m going to do mine this weekend
Thank you
I appreciate the feedback 👍
Great video. Clear and straight to the point. Also I’m impressed that you respond to the questions. So many don’t and you’re left wondering.
Thank you. I appreciate the kind words and feedback 👍
What are you cleaning the service area with?
Brake cleaner and engine degreaser I hope this helps. 👍
Thank you so much for this video
Exact same procedure on a 2014 1500 ecodiesel
Absolutely, thank you for the feedback 👍
About to tackle this project tomorrow. Did you have a whirring noise associated with this, or just the leak? I have both. 😢
Mine was just a leak. You, might need a rear end rebuild. I’d pull the cover and see what going on with the gears. I hope this helps. I appreciate the feedback 👍
How is the pinion bearing pre-load set in these trucks? Does doing this affect the pre-load? I’m more familiar with older axles with the crush collar.
Great vid!!
Thank you 👍 I appreciate the kind words.
Under 7 minutes. And the shop is telling me all day, lol.
I appreciate the feedback. Thank you for the kind words👍
Yeah, I just got quoted 3.8 hours for this repair...
Is there a crush sleeve behind the yolk to set preload?
Should be a preload washer and sleeve. I hope this helps. I appreciate the feedback 👍
Did you use a thin walled 32mm socket for the pinion nut? My impact sockets are too thick to fit.
Yes, I did have to use a thin wall socket. They throw those curve balls. Engineering gamesmanship. Good luck 👍
@@HowIFixedItCan you tell me what brand of socket you used? So far the thinned walled 12 point socket 32mm I found are sold out.
Did the seal come with that red Grease? If not what was that
The seal did not come with the sealant. It’s called anaerobic seal. Helps create a better seal where new gasket meets the metal. I hope this helps. I appreciate the feedback 👍
Thanks so much for the reply! I will definitely get that. Does the vehicle need to be lifted from the frame? Or can I do this on ramps?

what is the process to refill differential oil? is there a fill plug or do you have to remove the rear cover plate?
It is best to remove the cover. Some people just use a vacuum pump to suck out the old fluid. Fill plug is the level and only way to suck out fluid without removing cover.
Hello I heard to check the air release valve to make sure it's not clogged if is clogged it can blow the seals and gasket
Also aren't you supposed to mark it and count how many turns when removing the pinion nut

@@HowIFixedIt WHAT KIND?
So what's the torque on the pinion nut??
The vehicle I worked on was 210 lbs. I hope this helps. I appreciate the feedback 👍

Sounds like something got inside the bearings.
Sounds like someone didn’t tighten the pinion enough..
What size is the retaining nut
32mm 12-point metric.
What type of nut and socket that I need to use?
What is the flange retaining nut size?
32 mm was the size of mine.
What mark is supposed to line up and how do you know if it’s lined up

I have a 2012 and it's humming

Is the procedure almost the same for the 2009?
Correct. Very similar in procedure. Just a different year. Thank you for the feedback. I appreciate it 🤙
Now do a 2500 cummins
Pretty much the same procedure on every vehicle.
