Adam made a perfect point, Ohio State only had one player on defense that came in through the portal and that was Downs. And only three on offense, Junkins, Howard, and our tight end from Ohio University. So Ohio State only had 4 players of 22 that came in through the portal and started last night and remember Junkins shared running back with Henderson. the money was used for the players that wanted to return that would have been high draft picks and wanted to play thrie senior year together to win and Natty, and they did that.
Huge IRISH fan here. This lost is going to sting for a long time, but it is what it is. Hat's off to the Buckeyes as they definitely are undisputed champs. That being said as an IRISH fan i have no reason to hang my head. The IRISH might not have taken home the prome date, they definitely showed up to the dance and made some noice this past year.
From a Buckeye fan, this isn’t the Notre Dame of past that couldn’t win a post season game. You have the right head coach, you have the right culture, you guys are almost there and are definitely on the right path. I know it’s hard if you me team makes it all that way and then comes up short but the way they fought and played, there should be no shame felt from that Irish team or your fans. They had me worried in the 4th quarter. They could have tapped out like the other teams did when OSU got up big on them but they fought harder the more we scored. Hats off to you, your fanbase and your team. Hope to see you again next year in the Natty!!
there may never be an undefeated national champion ever again in college football congrats to 14-2 OHIO state as for 14-2 NOTRE DAME, hell of a season, it will be extremely difficult to a win a national title for ND but even harder for 90% of the rest of college football teams in division 1
Ohio State held Howard back from running too much to save him from the wear and tear of a long season. The opening drive by Notre Dame couldn’t be replicated for an entire game because of the punishment Leonard was absorbing. I have an inkling Day showed mercy on Freeman because Jeremiah Smith had man coverage on several occasions and they didn’t take advantage of it.
True about Will Howard. I've heard lots of Sports shows where they were basically talking like a monkey could win for Ohio State. Even Ohio State shows they were talkng about that. Same with Quinn for Texas. People complaining because he was running towards the defense and got tackled. Yet him doing the same thing and a magical play like the underhand pitch. Its why they have the saying "Couch Quarterback"
Great podcast. This Buckeye a fan. Impressed with Caroline's knowledge of the game right down to the schemes thought for sure she may live in Ohio. Our ladies know football too. Keep up the great job. Go Bucks. O-H-
Huge point you haven't mentioned. When Ohio State got the lead of 31-7 with 3:13 left in third period Ryan Day went to Ryan Day Ball, you know it was the same offense he run against Michigan and that is "PLAY NOT TO LOSE". This is when Notre Dame offense started playing better. When you turn off the engine the car just coasts. This is the biggest Coaching negative of Ryan Day. Not being negative but it's just the fact and an issue he has and must correct. I kind of understand a little because the facts are that Notre Dame is great at getting turnovers. And we had a lead that would take extra play by Notre Dame and playing percentages it was against Notre Dame. Many Buckeye fans all saw this all year and last year. Got to keep playing until the clock says 0. Especially when your offense owns the team they are playing and with the best offensive players in the country. JUST A FACT, NOT A COMPLAINT.
Your take is the go-to move for Ryan Day haters. A Josh Fryar holding call killed one 2nd half possession. Emeka Egbuka fumbled the ball at ND 20 yard line end another drive. D. Igbinosun's defensive holding on 3 and 23 kept an ND drive alive in the 2nd half. Tressel ball was admired but Day is always second guessed. Penalties and turnovers are on the players. Enjoy the National Championship. It doesn't very often.
The field goal thing that you're "Still down 2 scores" is drastically oversimplified because if you are down 16 you still need 3 scores to WIN. Notre Dame has a much better chance of WINNING if they kick a chip shot field goal and score two touchdowns vs if they makeing a 4th and goal from the 9, make the two-point conversion, score another touchdown, score another 2 point, then beat OSU in Overtime.
Looked to me like OSU up 31-7 and destroying ND just started to play to not lose and run the clock. 2md half play calling was awful: run up the middle, repeat. Instead of playing to win like the first half and first drive of second half they relaxed and clock watched
Wow so cutting the lead to 13 so all you need is two TDs doesn't make sense to anyone? I at least understand the thought. I always say go for it but 4th and goal from the 9 is a tough conversion so I understand the thought
OSU was in another boat race and this game should have been a total blowout. Howard missed two throws, one to Tate in end zone and one to Smith on 3rd and 4. OSU had two killer penalties that stopped a drive in tracks and have ND a 1st down on 3rd and 18. Egbuka also fumbled on the ND 20 in 2nd half. This game is a total blowout otherwise. It wasnt just the 4 losses to UM, it was the losses to Clemson, Bama, Georgia, and Oregon.
lol so yall wanted Norte dame to go for it on 4th and 9 like we ain’t see that happen last week vs Texas and wtf happen a strip sack scoop and score by Jack sawyer stop the cap yall fr lol 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
Yup. Im so happy for the now legendary coach Ryan day. But he will always have 4 TTUN losses trailing him. I don't care about winning a national championship next year. I do care about Day winning The Game.

National media is lazy too often.
Don’t forget Seth McLaughlin from Alabama
And our center Seth McLaughlin

great produced podcast

Caleb Downs and Junkins weren't sitting on SEC benches Caroline....In fairness, I'm sure there were transfers to that were.
Notre Dame is a tough team and well coached, but Ohio State has too much fire power. Good points about the Offensive Line.
Nice analysis.

IF Egbuka doesn't fumble OSU is up by 23 in 4th quarter
They were carving ND secondary an it could continued all game but they have to share the ball with their elite players.
Wow so cutting the lead to 13 so all you need is two TDs doesn't make sense to anyone? I at least understand the thought. I always say go for it but 4th and goal from the 9 is a tough conversion so I understand the thought

Love the black outfits.. they were all in mourning.
Howard out rushed ND.
Yes. ND had 53 yards rushing and 40 of those from QB Riley Leonard.
We don't hang banners for beating mich! Michigan can beat us twice a year if it means we get to win the National Championship!!!
To think that there was serious debates by supposed knowledgeable journalists about which QB was best. Get real.
Really Howard out played him period end of story mvp
You guys may not care about the Michigan game but that's just because you're not Ohio State or Michigan fans.
Excuse me, Ohio state fans don’t either. Please speak for yourself.
The bigger part of college football fans is not OSU nor Michigan fans, and they won’t care about who OSU lost to, they just focus on who won the Natty
lol so yall wanted Norte dame to go for it on 4th and 9 like we ain’t see that happen last week vs Texas and wtf happen a strip sack scoop and score by Jack sawyer stop the cap yall fr lol 🤦🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
Losing to Michigan meant that Ohio State didn't have to face Oregon 3 times in one seasons + resting the OLine was a Major benefit!!!
🤣 I'm the same way, Nathional Championship is nice but we still lost to Michigan. 😁
Yup. Im so happy for the now legendary coach Ryan day. But he will always have 4 TTUN losses trailing him. I don't care about winning a national championship next year. I do care about Day winning The Game.
Nope not when those wins are vacated. Still no release of Michigans response to the NOA. Hopefully to come this offseason.
