I think Jo is a great mum… also a grafter… Vic comes across sensible and dedicated… if what we see on here is “real” and not just for UA-cam then you both make great parents and appear decent human beings..

Someone might want to note that here in USA English 'grafter' has a bit of a different meaning than in UK English. Funny how much vocabulary difference there is between English and English.

A "grafter" in English and Hiberno-English is someone who puts their heart and soul into doing things well. Both Vic and Jo are grafters and also really nice humans.

If anyone doubts if parenting on a narrow boat and giving your child a good upbringing is possible, they only have to look at your channel.
William is thriving - he’s got an excellent vocabulary, a wonderful sense of curiosity and seems to be happy and very healthy! You’re both doing an excellent job at raising him in a world full of lots of challenges. His simple joy at playing in the sunshine with his sand and water table is what childhood should be all about.

Nice Q&A. Fantastic editing. Delicious haircut, coffee & cakes. Delightful boy.
A little schooling advice from a fellow parent (she's now 15, born in Lancaster, UK) who has regrets: 🤔
William is currently still very much in the "nature" part of his life - un-self-possessed, just free & safe in his environment to play & learn at will. Primary school (age 4-10) is great & gentle for teaching them how to deal with other people, share, discover & learn the basics. However, secondary school is violent in every way; they deal with people from different backgrounds, beliefs, biases & attitudes; peer pressure is overwhelming & frightening. Consequently their education can be waylaid & it's the teachers & other pupils that "nurture" your child.
I would highly recommend working your backsides off while William is at primary school, then taking off with him, around the world, schooling him online (there's lots available) & encouraging him to form his own opinions about others through travel & adventure.

Agree! Homeschooling is the way forward! Online resources and allowing the child to be fully immersed in their interests for as long as they like before moving on. Ken Robinsons thoughts on education were so true.
Also, homeschool children aren’t lonely, they just get to choose and thrive within their own friendship groups chosen by themselves.

This video reminded me that I told you before William was born that you were the cutest couple on the cut! Definitely proved it today! Love you guys (includes William! ) & love watching your videos. Jo, have you considered homeschooling for William. He's such a bright & inquisitive little boy that it seems he would be a joy to homeschool. I think inquisitiveness is half the battle to learning so you're half-way there. I'm not sure if homeschooling is common in UK, but here in US the number is growing by leaps & bounds. The shutdowns took a huge toll on our children & on education. Just a thought. 🤔 William is learning tons from your travels and both of your occupations. Vic, best Q&A I've seen. You're a great editor. ❤😊👍

I totally agree with the home educating thing, my daughter home educates ( most home ed`s don`t like the `schooling` word) my 8 year old grandson and he is the brightest kid. OK, his writing could do with some work but ask him about the world, the universe, nature etc and he will pretty much know the answer, he reads constantly. I think Jo AND Vic would be perfect home educators for William, look into it, there is a mass of stuff, lesson and project wise, on the internet.
Great videos by the way, my favourite on YT 😊

I love narrowboat life far more than living in a house. It’s cheaper, even when some things go wrong. Being retired, I feel as if I’m sheltered from the outside world (if you can understand that). The family wanted me closer to Kent, and possibly living with them when my Husband died at Bugsworth Basin, but I decided to stay onboard and so far, haven’t regretted it.

It's been 42 years since I stopped drinking alcohol. I, too, stopped when I had my first child. Truthfully, I didn't much care for the spins 😊or being best buddies with the toilet or the lack of control of just being in control of your mind and body.😊

  • @petermastenbroek7719
    @petermastenbroek7719 3 місяці тому +19

At the end when you were saying :"We haven't drunk any alcohol for almost 2 years", I was thinking of the old guy that is having his daily shave in my mirror on the boat, that guy is 75 years old, was in the Army during the cold war, based in Germany (1967-1971) were it was cheaper to drink hard liquer than my drink which was freshly pressed orange juice.
In these 75 years never had any alcoholic drinks, not even a beer, and I must say that I've rever regretted my choice.
The only alcohol I've ever had were chocalate sweets filled with rum, of which I've had 2 when I was about 12 y.o. but that luckily didn't show-up last time the gendarmerie stopped me for an alcohol test, too bad for them 😜.

I know what you mean about the water regarding young William,; I had a high school friend who grew up with her grandpa and grandma, who lived on the Ohio River in Illinois. She had been around water all her life and knew from her toddler years how to be safe. I was not used to the river and was nervous on the boat, but she was calm and knew what to do for safety.

I love these Q&A sessions because one of the main reasons we all watch is because we want to get to know you. That is something we have the pleasure of doing with each episode. I admire you guys so much! We all have our daily challenges in our lives and yours is no easier than the average person. As Vic said in the video, the challenges of being on board with a young toddler are far enriched by the environment surrounding the boat. You guys are literally living my dream life! I admire your drive, I admire your ambition, I admire the fact that you've both embraced your individual talents and hobbies and turned then into your careers. Vic, you are an absolutely brilliant editor. Each video amazes me with your quirky angles and filling content in your B roll shots. Jo, you are a culinary Goddess! Your eye for quality is the recipe of your success. I really can't believe I'm about to say this but one day I will actually get down to buy some of your amazing cakes. So how can I say you're an amazing Baker? Well, everyone else who has tried your cakes says so. I trust the customers.
As parents, you guys are just the dream team. I can only imagine just how rich Williams little life is because I know I'd be in paradise with the surroundings you provide for him. I love you guys, I love this channel, I love what you do and I love your charming family life 🙏❤️

This is one of the best episodes yet! I became a Gongoozler (in the states) about 4 1/2 years ago. My list of regulars has diminished considerably, but you have remained tied for 1st place. You are a joy to be with, and William is already an exceedingly bright young Lad. It is obvious that you pour love and care into him. I cannot recall a single episode which I have skipped through or played at a higher speed just to get through, as I often do for much of my UA-cam consumption. One question for Victor - How do you cope with the intensity of waking up to Jo's big blue eyes and gorgeous smile every day? What a catch you made! Cheers for now!

My alternative or additional suggestion was that the next books should be about soups. To start now in this very hot weather with Gazpacho a beautiful refreshing cold soup from Spain. There is also a very nice cold beetroot soup from the Baltic states which I cant spell or pronounce TBH. 🤣Then move into Autumn with some hearty hot soups and chunks of fresh bread. I will place an order now.

Really great Vlog Jo and Vic. Q & A was really lovely to hear and I think the way you have approached it by not sitting in front of a camera in one setting is brilliant as you are so natural, and relatable. Jo you are so passionate about your baking and the Jersey butter is just so typical of how you want not only the taste but the appearance of your bakes to be appetising. The banter between the two of you is wonderful. It’s not easy to talk about things that are personal between you both but you do in such a balanced way. Any differences you have, obviously work for and that is a good strength to have as a couple and family. Game changer the pressure washer. Interesting to hear about your office and editing Vic your skill set certainly is being well employed in making the u tube videos. You have both achieved so much, your honesty in knowing where you are now and what you would like to aim for future wise is refreshing . It’s great to hear you are following the life you want in the way you want. Thank You for sharing. Well Done

I do love your channel, often thought provoking, with great cakes 😻 I’ve just started living on my houseboat in OZ, think one bed apartment size, with an engine. I absolutely love it, so peaceful, and living in nature :)

Is your houseboat static or are you continually cruising ? I am in Tasmania and would like to live on a moored up houseboat either in a marina or on the side of a marina but not really interested in continous cruising.

@@terenceseymour-tf8rptassie725hi, I have a marina berth at Murray Bridge, I will be using this as a home base. My boat has an engine, I’m not static, and plan to do trips :)

@@Deb_Downes Yes anywhere on The Murray would be good for livaboard boating.I actually think there is potential to build a canal network in Tasmania linking the central Highland lakes and fishing locations as an alternative housing option. It would be a great economic stimulus with tourism opportunities and boat building.

@@terenceseymour-tf8rptassie725I think Tasmania would be a very difficult place to achieve that plus, the cost would be enormous :)

@Deb_Downes My vision came at the height of the pandemic when there was much concern about the economic effects of the pandemic and Governments were looking at major capital works to keep people employed .
My proposal was indeed a high labour , high capital project similar to post ww2 projects like the Snowy Mountains Hydro electricity scheme and Tasmania's Hydro Electricity power stations sadly I was unable to convince Government of it's worth.

No alcohol for 2 years, very impressive with a small child! One day will have to venture along the canal network from Kings Langley and find the Cafe boat!

Great honest film with as usual lovely editing,
Don’t worry, we are all (well most of us) stressing behind the scenes.
    Keep safe ! ❤

12:20 I'm not a vegan (or vegie), but the vegan rolls were absolutely great. Tommy's pizzas are great. They also have a small shop on Buxton Road in Macclesfield (don't think you can book, it's just first come first served and it's always packed!!)

Brilliant insights! ( deffo not overshared I don't reckon )The reason that I enjoy watching your youtube vlogs so much is that it is so clear to me, as a viewer that you enjoy creating them and that it's a passion that is being channelled ( see wot I did there?) to support a chosen way of living. More importantly, it's a beautiful way to connect and share the discovery of freedom and change of life direction with the outside world and with those of us who are peripheral dwellers and are looking for alternative ways of being on Earth. Free falling in this World right now, I feel is adapting to current evolution. Happy Days! Everyone needs MORE CAKE! ( I'm an english woman living in Melbourne Australia )

Love the William boy, he's so precocious and special. They grow up so fast, so savor every stinking moment of it, you're both raising a wonderful guy.
