RIP to all the noble knights who sacrificed themselves in this video. 😢
It feels like the knight move in game 6 is more of a clearance sacrifice rather than a deflection because the idea would still work if you could just remove the knight from the board and the bishop remained on the same square.. Either way great concepts!
Same idea with game 1 ? Had the knight not been there, the pawn simply could have blocked ?
More like decoy
Agreed. Clearance sacrifice, not a deflection.
That is what I call out of the box thinking waaaaaay out of the box. Thanks for these examples they are very cool.
This is "there is no box" type of thinking.
Possibly the best chess instructional channel on UA-cam .
Thank you, Nelson, for all your videos! They are such a great resource for learning! Cheers
Thank you, Nelson, for these interesting yet practical videos. You share what amount to secrets of chess. How rarely the topics are covered in books and videos.
love these videos about mitrofanov's deflection examples, please continue making them!
Another great video! I think I will use the deflections with my bishop as I love using my knights more
About to watch, hopefully this holds up to that bishop deflection video. That was sick
... was a good video
That game 7 knight deflection blew my mind! What a way to draw the white queen into a fork and force a trade!! Any other move is game over. Tough to see and all the more reason to learn to look for a draw in a bad situation.
Thanks Nelson for sharing this videos and very instructive positions to encourage the correct way to solve tactics , generally i was trying to solve tactics just looking for the right move but i was not doing a complete analysis of all the variations , thanks
Great learning for me. Thank you
This is why I love this channel ...
Great video!
16:28 the starting position is not from the game Jonasson - Antgantysson, but probably a reconstruction (of what happened in the ending) that works better. White's advanced pawn was on f6, not e6, attacking both black's queen (on e7) and the bishop on g7. That's when black ignored it, and pushed the pawn to e2, and white took the queen on e7.
fantastic, thanks!
Brilliant reflections good channel bro
That's some amazing stuff!
glad youre feeling better
Best chess content amazing explaining Nel sir is best 🔥 amazing coach ❤️ lots of love from India 🇮🇳
Thanks for cutting back on that noise you make breathing after sentences. I can watch your videos without tgat bothering me so much. I know its dumb of me but I appreciate it even if you never noticed. Lol you have the best chess videos. Keep making more
Nelson is da bomb - and a great teacher!
game 7 was a trip--i didnt see it but it works
thanks for your amazing videos
love from Syria
Rather hard to NOT see the best play when you know the rook is involved xP
Great commentary! Was an enjoyable view
That game 7 was just ridiculous!
the last was really best
1:38 why not take horsey towards king to block check
Subscribed after watching ur video on what to do in middle game
thanks a ton dude. is there some book which shows these tactics?
Mind boggling.
Amazing.
Jaw dropping.
Excellent.
Thank you so much.
I think some of these may be more accurately called interference tactics rather than deflection.
Thanks!
Thank you sir!
FOA, glad to see you're recovering from the cold. Second, in game 3, after Rxd5, why not play Kc4 to make fork?
9:22 Why is this a win? At least it’s not trivial, queen vs rook + knight endgames are tricky.
16:40 The move played in the game was not e7, but the pawn on f6 take the queen on e7. It’s a very famous "resigning in winning position" example.
Ask Nepo if a queen beats a knight and a rook.
9:22 Both pieces are hanging for black, knight c3 DOES defend it, but pretty sure after a few checks the hanging knight will just fall due to the uncoordination of the pieces. Rook e5+ ofc simply doesn't work as well, cuz king f4, both pieces are still attacked and the knight can't defend the rook
You're right about that e7 move. The night deflection only popped up in a news paper long after the game. Of course, this was before the computer era🙂
These Mitrofanov deflections are simply surreal. I wonder how the players even considered them as candidates moves for longer than a second before dismissing them. They had to be from the future, running Stockfish in 1952.
I’ve never heard of this tactic before. That’s why I’m 600 😂
Great video I just won a game use this by give up both bis and both castles to get a check m8 that was high risk but put off because he not see it coming 😅😅😅
Funny line: “even Fischer was aware of this deflection tactic” 🤣 Super video as always, but way beyond my skill level!
17:36 why black doesn't play e1 then white could only delay check mate by Qf1? If white uses rook to block the bishop with Rf2, after e1Q, Qf1, Qxf1, Kxf1, Re8, black has a good chance to win with extra bishop vs. 2 pawns (e7 pawn is on dark square, same color with the black bishop and cannot be saved).
11:40 but how is it falling apart? (K->H7) I thought we should understand the why? I would have wished you elaborating on that, despite I'm aware higher levels watching and it might not be necessary to some. Because I have seen that position in my head (Qe6 check) but I couldn't find how it's winning or gets to a mate cause with the black queen there (not falling for the deflection "trap") the king is protected against mate against only knight and queen. Maybe I expected too much and your point is fischer will have more pawns :-) Anyways, amazing stuffs you show here!
15:58
If you look closely you can see that black queen can just take the rook on D1 and then it’s checkmate so idk why black didn’t do that
It a check, so they must block or move their king
I like his outro a lot
Nice,,,👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
In game 1 stockfish suggested ne7. Is it because of insufficient depth?
This video shows me why I'll never be any type of master lol. Some deep calculations
Black bishops at 12:25 are killing me
These were real advanced moves.
Game 7 was ABSOLUTELY crazy.. lul.. wow
My 1050 rated brain cant handle any of this lol. Cool concepts tho, I’ll definitely try them out if I see them
19:00 Black takes knight with rook. That's a free piece for black.
Isn't it mate in 2 in game 2 by using the d1 rook instead of king when you say mate in 3?
Can someone better than me explain why in the 1st example you cant just block with Ne2? I see white has qh8+ but black can then block with qg8. What am I missing?
That move works as a defensive idea but not if you want to win the game; white would be able to force a draw with a perpetual check between h8 and h6.
Actually, it wouldn't be a perpetual between Qh8 and Qh6 because black can block Qh6+ with Qg7, and then white can't go Qh8+. Your question made me curious so I plugged it into the analysis, it gives white a slight advantage after -- 19. Ne2 20. Ne4 Qh5 21. Qxh5 Bxh5 22. Nxf6 Bf3 23. Nxe8 Rxe8 . Black loses a rook and white has the bishop pair.
Great videos all around but in game 3 why wouldn't you just take the pawn with the knight after putting them in check
I MUST be doing something wrong. Every time I try a deflection, I lose!
IN Game 4: Why didn't Fisher play Knight to e8? (next move Queen to g7)?
I feel like we’re kind of cheating when you ask us to guess what move would be best. Maybe in the future you could have a video for deflections but it could be any piece instead of one piece in particular so we can guess with a little more difficulty/imagination. Wonderful video of course though thank you
At 16:23 wouldn't knight to B2 be a winning move?
Actually in game 6 white did NOT find Ne3, but resigned instead.
I new to chess I'm trying to find tips to help
One time I sacrificed the queen for 3 pices rook bishop and knight
For game 1, why can't black play Ne7 instead?
cool stuff daddy
2:25 why can't BxC5, bxC5 and something like KF5 not work?
THIS is why chess is amazing 🤩🔥🤯
me pongo a ver queen gambit en netflix y de pronto todo youtube es de ajedrez... coincidendia ?... no lo creo!! jajaja
Game 5 Whites bishop could move to Bf6
Why is the board the wrong way round. I always play white sitting south.
💥💥
how? did? tal find that tactic?
1st position why Ne7 no good?
I can often see the move. Often very quickly however when it comes to justifying the move, I’m clueless. There’s an optimistic hunch like with game 2 but the following moves I might need a day to see :/
How to add this skill to the repertoire is bending my brain lately
Thanks for this video
I HAV A DOUBT , IN GAME 3 AFTER KNIGHT SACRIFICE WHAT ABOUT a8?
Thank you for all your great content. Heh, everybody, don't forget to click LIKE.
In last game what-if black take the bishop with his rook.
Deflection fail.
15:16 why not Rd8
At 14, if I were white I would played bishop in f6 to surround the king and protect each pieces
Every time I try to make a Knight deflection, it's ??
Ng4
Where is the thumbnail game
It's the first game, sides are swapped
@@davidbaigorria5847 oh duh... Thanks for the edification!
😍
Fun fact: Bobby Fisher is Spider Man
Game 5 - What did you mean by "Even Fischer was aware of it" referring to the knight deflection. Sounds condescending. In my mind it's "of course Fischer saw the deflection, as he was one of the best tacticians of his era, and became a world champion!" I personally think he was an a§§whole, I didn't like anything about the guy except he had an exceptional mind that was focused on only one thing - Chess.
I’m sure he didn’t mean to be condescending. Sometimes we just use the wrong word
Why doesn't he just play e4 with queen to fork king and queen...
You know what comment u should to pin. I realky like deflections!
Very flashy!
Anyone else click because they couldn't understand the thumbnail ....
