body sovereignty. if people would learn to back off other people's body and lifestyle choices, we'd all be a hell of a lot happier.

It's funny how people think only certain hair types can be dreaded. If shampoo, conditioner and combs were never invented we'd all have dreads.
Chubby Nugget not true but whatever helps you sleep at nite ig 🙄
Right, it's just basically controlled matted hair
It is true. All human hair locs if the hair isn't separated. If I don't separate my hair at least once a week my hair will start to loc up on its own and I'm mostly white. And no, its not "matted". It twists onto itself and locs up.
No, white people hair would be oily, stringy and hanging. Matted at the most. Afro hair would lock up because the curls would begin to intertwine with each other and “lock” to each other. Which are dreads.
Surnamehere wrong. All human hair locs.
I just started working on my first dread, thanks to you. I’ve watched many videos for a long time now but yours is the first that 1) gave me hope I could actually achieve the look I want but also and more importantly 2) that I can do it myself. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

@@elcocaino8728 stop being disrespectful that’s his wife
I am going to use this on my buddy, we have been using crochet locs to grow his hair out, and now, here is the answer!!!! Yayyyyy
Good video. So simple, yet a never-look-back on what it once was process to create.
Her hair is supposed to look like that. That’s literally the point of locs.. to purposely tangle and matt up your hair..a dread loc can’t grow to be a dread loc without doing what’s he’s doing to her hair especially because it’s so straight..but of course someone who doesn’t know about or let alone have locs would never understand. 🙂
So I have a question ... What does a white person when the roots come in? I mean.. he's saying it'll juat keep going up and mature on its own...but I've seen whites with half a lock full of hair thay naturally grows from the head and other half if still locked
None Ya well once dreads are started you’re training your hair to grow into a certain shape and form. Eventually the hair will get used to growing in a cylindrical shape and naturally grow that way, but because a Caucasian person’s hair is so smooth, it will take persuading to help the roots keep up. Like crocheting and interlocking. But some people just like the way straight roots look I guess 🤷🏽♀️
@@SoftHeartRevelation thanks for the quick response! Much appreciated. Yeah...I'm not into the root look. Basically id just want a few and I'd want them neat.
Meraki.
We just think it shouldn’t be on a girl like her. She too good for dreads
@@rawdawg8850 too good for dreads? What does that even mean?
Idk about everyone else , but I love when caucasians make their way into the dreadlock nation. Something unique about their thinking. It's like some of us blacks wish we had straight hair at times. Idk this video was just cool & different. She's incredibly open minded for someone who has fine hair.
Glad to see this instead of the typical "cUltUrE vUltUrE" etc comments. It's like 90% of people don't realise dread can naturally form in *any* hair type in race if in brushed for long enough and left to freeform
Hey I'm a Caucasian guy who has been wanting dread locs since I was in my late teens. I am now 33 years old and I have just recently started my dread loc journey, seeings how I have been growing my hair from when it was completely shaved until now for the past 4 years. I can honestly say this is probably the most dedicated I have ever been to or towards one particular thing. I have asked and begged and offered all sorts of payments in exchange of someone sitting me down and starting dreads in my head. Well after 2 or 3 years of no luck I have finally decided to just do it myself. Sooooo........ It's been a real real slow go but I'm dedicated 💯 percent all the way always have been so I do what I can as I can when I can. I haven't even finished all my locs yet, the ones in the back are ugly as crap bc it's just a group of straight hair sectioned off and wrapped at the end with a rubber band. But the ones in the front look so so good to me. (Lol) they just make me feel satisfied and happy. I just simply can't wait until all of my hair is in dread locs. And you know what?????? No matter how many black or white folks that has criticized me for wanting to do this....... It don't matter!!!!
I'm not doing for any body I'm doing it for someone. That someone is ME....
Thanks for having interest with white folks that have the desire to join the dread nation.
💯% COMMITTED...
Yes I know so many whites with locs who had it for 25 years or so, it’s a spiritual thing
You cant just say black people want straight hair dreadlocs was originally a thing for african americans i just dont think drads look as kneat on Caucasians

@@MrSocko-bh1jb 😆😂
@@ejockey1880 Oh good you find it funny, I was of half a mind not to say that because of the possible creep factor...
@@ejockey1880 ...but seriously now, if your hair is really very shiny and healthy and you want to dread it, and you are sure you want to dread it, you can find someone to help you with a silica treatment of the hair before or even after dreading the hair. Can also be used if you have really long growth that is undreaded to basically rough the hair up. It is for example also used when you make extensions into your dreads, because the natural hair you buy is totally soaked in chemicals to make it nice and shiny, and you want to remove that before dreading it. But please be careful with that stuff, that is no conditioner, if you don`t feel 100% comfy dealing with that stuff don`t. Best idea is to get help!!!

Same! The damage
But, white people had dreads too. The Scandinavians, Barbarians, the Hebrews, and many others, black people had dreads too. Why can't all peoples have dreads? Why must people limit everything? Like, us coloured people of all people should know that if we say other races can't have this nor that, we are no different than what the white people did to segregate us all those decades ago. Did our brothers and sisters die just for us people to complain and say others can't have this or that?

How are they a commitment? I just tried making three in my hair. This method works very well. But I've never had dreads before. I'd like to know more about the commitment before I make more dreads or decide to keep the ones I just made.
@@dfadden62 They require very different maintainance from loose hair. In many ways they're much lower maintainance but there is an adjustment in the way you wash your hair and you DO have to wash despite the myth that says otherwise. Also it is very difficult (not impossible but difficult) to take them out of your hair without chopping all of your hair off. The process of un-loc-ing your hair involves stuff you have to get special ordered and several long hours of running that stuff through each loc while pulling them apart inch by inch. I hope this helps but I also hope it doesn't frighten you out of getting locs. They can be very rewarding and even if you are not getting them for religious reasions, spiritually fulfilling. :-)
Please tell me, I am talented with my own hair, I believe I can do this to myself. Is this a good method and is it easy to keep them up if you're consistent with them

Sorry, my mistake. It's just most the time it's African-Americans you'd see arguing about dreadlocks being off limit and such
@@TheKaylakookie same can be said for you, whatever your culture is.
I love this!!! Y’all are so cute!!! The dreads look great on her as well!!!
My mom wants to do dreadlocks with her hair so I sent this video to her idk what to think about it tho😬
same with my mom lol
You made this look soooo easy, I absolutely had no idea how to make dreads but my boyfriend been dying for them and I watched this video and got to work on his hair and you helped ALOT. Thank you ☺️💞
I’m in the same boat, about to do my boyfriends hair too
I have stick straight hair and 5 years ago I started my dreads using back combing and crochet and it literally took a full year for them to lock up and the shrinkage was unreal. 3 years later I started longing for my straight hair again but I refused to cut my dreads off. So I used a fork and about 3 bottles of conditioner and 22 hours later I had straight hair again! I was completely surprised that it was down to my butt! My dreads were only a little bit past my shoulders. Now, I’m back to wanting dreads again and I think I’m going to try this method as it seems to help them lock up way quicker.
I'm doing partial dreads for a halloween costume as a goblin.im excited about it
Wow, what a coincidence watching this. It's my birthday today so I wanted to do dreadlocks on my hair just for a change. This helped me a lot.
I REALLY appreaciate this tutorial! Once my hair gets to 10" this will be my 6th and final attempt at dreadlocking my straight, frustrating hair. Wish me luck. U rock!
6 attempts Jesus. Just back comb and palm roll. Just keep palm rolling everyday and afyer like 3-4 months you won’t even need to do that anymore. Not a short process so don’t think it is
It takes a long time for locks to mature into actual locks at first there gonna look crazy and have fly aways and stray hair but you gotta work it and stay with it. If you’ve tried 6 times already you don’t seem very committed. You have to commit or don’t try at all.
I’ve always liked the look of dreadlocks, but had no idea they’d be so easy to have. (I’m a white guy, with thick wavy hair.)
Nowadays I’d be worried the backlash for perceived appropriation, but I’d also be concerned about maintaining them. Are they easy to wash? Does the hair grow in straight or do the dreadlocks “keep?”
And what do you say to charges of cultural appropriation?
Dreads arent a race thing man. Celts. Had them since 7th century. Jesus had dreads. It's a human thing man.
@@Moweesdaddy Jesus had dreads? Maybe, but for all we know about the guy, Jesus may have been totally bald.
@@marauder08901 he was a black or middle eastern Jew. That's pretty obvious. He wasn't white. And the style at that time was not to comb the hair. As most couldn't afford such luxury.
For the African American community that seemingly claims them, even there it's not widespread it appears in subsects smaller sects of society. The earliest mention of dreads is in the Hindu scriptures so whatever floats your boat. Also the Celts had em and so did the aztecs. Not a race thing as the guy above said though everything these days is made about it.
@@ayushro4 I noticed my typo. Whoops my bad. I agree with you. I have locs myself.
Keep the dreads! I already started this on my hair!
Why are people triggered by hair
@NEVER_AGAIN or because it's appropriation
Sarah C. No one owns the right to dreadlocks chill
@@bensullivan3704 it's apart of black culture, just like cornrows and afros.
Because they have nothing better to do apparently besides worrying bout other people's hair.
@@SarahChanel94 nobody takes people like you serieus.
“And then *rip it*, *RIP IT TO THE ROOT*”
Sounds extremely damaging
As are most hair treatments, but really, this is like getting any knots in your hair, just doing it a very specific way
So is dying your hair, excessive brushing, tight braids and poby tails etc. Almost anything will damage your hair. If it's in a dread it doesn't matter regardless.
So is getting a retwist so tight to your scalp
Hair is dead anyways. Doesn’t matter.
@@lveriss it's only dead when it's not attached to your scalp anymore.. dreads are very much alive
Fantastic! I’m 64 going on my 2nd year now with full dreads, did I mention I’m a white gal here. I ended up getting dreads b/c I was losing my hair, my father was diagnosed with leukemia & I was stressing about him. Well he …passed away recently, but I still have my dreads. Excellent video you young couple! Thank you 🙏
I made it through the video thanks so much I've always wondered how you do this and I just want to have like one so I can have my beads in it You're the MVP
For those talking about the damage, all its really doing is knotting up your hair dont take the word "rip" literal you're not really ripping anything, your hair will be just fine. Also starter locks as you see in the video always start out looking weird but with time, as they settle, they begin to look really beautiful.
The main point should be cultural appropriation of black people
I came to watch this video because I will get dreads done on me. I been wanting to get em and always ponk out, when I get older I want to tell my grandchildren "I once had dreads" another story to tell with photos of me. Keep the dreads lady and good job to your husband. God blees you both
Same but I’m afraid it will hurt really bad. I’m trying so some research on dreads and I just don’t want to offend someone and think I’m doing it for fun. Which I’m not. I’ve been thinking of doing it for a long time now. 🥺🥺
Im starting the natural free form
Way but I just made me one and I’m happy bout it 😂
I have wanted dreads/braids since I was 5. I’m white and just love this hairstyle. My idol growing up was Floella Benjamin on kids tv, playschool, I adored her and her hair, hence my love for locks ❤️
“ THATS ALOT OF DAMAGE”
It'll grow back. Plus its not ur hair.
Lol. But true.
This is so helpful and Gunther this is so sweet of you to do this for your wife 😍
I made it to the end.
Keep the dreadlocks!
So cool! I'll try to make them on a wig!
