Three solo's from 2015 Central Park GOTV The Beacon which is your favorite? there's something undyingly magical about this song, and of course especially his solo.
I was lucky. I was very very lucky. I had the pleasure of having dinner with Little Feat in 93'. I asked Paul Barrere who he was listening to. He told me about Derek. He said to check him out so when Derek came to the S.F. area to debut his first solo album I went. He was opening for Steve Kimock and Zero. I couldn't believe my ears. I became as excited about music again as if I were at my first concert ever decades earlier. I haven't missed a show in the S.F. area since. I've been very lucky to see him in tiny clubs like the last day saloon, the independent, the fillmore and Great American music hall. At the Last Day saloon show there were only about 40 people in attendance. I knew then he would be what he is today. Playing with everyone from Herbie Hancock to Eric Clapton, Allman Brothers, on and on. Derek is special. No doubt about it. I'm lucky to have seen him since he was 16 years old. Thanks for posting this. He's been my favorite guitarist since I first laid ears on him many years ago.
The grit that this man plays with, and yet he stands there, like a statue, so concentrated. More talent than a lot of guys out there, he sure could pull a guitar face if he wanted to, hell I do just listening to him. He’s just got so much composure, blows my mind.
I know he is just a bearded guy playing slide guitar like no other...But damn..i feel like his notes touch my heart in a way that invites it to pour out all its saddness, with joy and rejoice. Brings tears to my eyes with this euphoria of a sensation of being saved, or something. Unbeliavable Soul playing and touching.
You can feel there is a mix of sadness and happiness in his slide. I'm so connected to his music because we all live our lives in a mix of joy and pain at the same time. Thanks Derek !
I could not not love this anymore than I do! We saw them at Red Rocks, during this song my wife leaned over and said, “ it’s like God explaining the meaning of life”. This is a fantastic post. Gracias Amigo!! Well done.

Few -- very, very few -- are the blessed ones who ever get to reach that point. And this guy had it -- in spades! -- before he even reached puberty. The ancient Greeks described the mythical music of Orpheus as having supernatural powers: ferocious beasts would lay down in the grass and purr harmlessly like kittens, birds would go quiet in the trees, clouds would fade from the sky. Poetic hyperbole, no doubt. But I'd be damned, if DT's music doesn't have exactly that effect. The man is a phenom, untouchable!

I have never ever experienced this level of expressed warm hearted music delivered and at the same time from a place from the deepest depths of a beautiful soul . i am in absolut awe from this compilation and to your gift thanx derek for sharing this to us and love truely from my heart to yours!!

Derek, I think you must be exhausted after playing this track with the amount of emotion you put into your solo. I'm sure every other guitarist out there probably agrees with me.
All 3 are great in their own right. But, for me, the 2010 Crossroads Guitar Fest version is "The Benchmark"! If that one doesn't pull on every one of your emotions, so much so that you get a little choked up and your eyes well up..... you might want to check and see if you have a pulse.
For me its his solo at the palace theater in 2012. I think its on youtube and archive.org, you should give it a listen. It's one of the greatest solos I've ever heard- I tear up a little every time I sit down and listen to it.

have you counted how many are on stage with Santana? Many many bands have had 2 drummers since the 50's. That huge sound inspired Duane Allman to have 2 drummers, then Butch brought in Greg Quinones so the Alma's had 3 for over a decade. The Grateful Dead have 2, many many bands have 2 drummers. It can be a train wreck with the wrong combination of drummers, but when you have 2 that can play with each other its magic.
