Like you, I tried a couple of cheap winders. OK at first, then too noisy to use in a bedroom. Soon after that….DEAD. Orbita seems like they have perfected what winders should be!
Cannot begin to tell you how much I appreciate your side by side comparison between Wolf & Orbita. I have six Wolf “Cubs” with the glass cover doors to limit dust. I also bought the stackable holders (each holds 3 Cubs). The stackable solution is brilliant because it allows me to continue adding every time I buy a new watch. After using these for approximately three years, 2 of the 6 no longer work. And, I absolutely HATE the Wolf cuffs on the Cubs. I cannot figure out why, but some them stay in place, while others want to fall out. Not cool. Recently bought my first Rolex. Even though my AD sells both brands, he highly recommended Orbita. He said they rarely have customers bring winders back in for service. They see more problems with Wolf. And he said Rolex’s tend to do better with Orbita. I’m going to check out the Orbita website for winding schedules. Really appreciate that inside tip. Thanks Again‼️
That's not true at all. My automatic watches had been rotating on watch winder for 10 years. Never had any problem. In fact the rotation of the winder is so slow that it generates less wear and tear than on the wrist. I put them on the lowest Turn per day (650) just to keep the watches running.
On low quality and/or vintage watches? That is a possibility. Especially if the watch is constantly being overwound. Modern watches, it isn't much of a problem. That said, I'll adjust the amount of TPD if a watch will die.
Thanks for the review. Do you think the Barrington is a reliable low cost winder? How does it's motor noise compare with the others? Or would you say it's a false cost-saving?
I think the quality control on these cheaper winders is a bit hit & miss. I actually bought 2 Barrington winders, and one didn't work, and one the motor was very noisy. I returned both, and in the time it took to organise the return the noisy motor stopped working. Then I ordered 3 of this model instead www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01MXF4PG5/ . But I had to exchange one of them as it was much noisier than the others. So just buy from a vendor were returns are easy is my advice. Dual winders are ok for me as I only have watches up to 42mm. But with bigger watches it would definitely be a problem.
I have Boxy watch winders. They're a smidgen on the louder side, but I only notice it when it's dead quiet. One did die, they asked for a couple pictures and I had a new one on my doorstep a couple days later. Reality is that watch winders are a bit of a scam as they do use incredibly cheap motors. Anyone with a bit of skill could probably make an equivalent for a couple bucks

How many tpd Youve set your Orbita for Rolex?
The scorecard was awesome! Thanks, helped me
Gread video!! Thoughts on orbita sempre? I can buy one for $100. Whats your thoughts? Thanks
i have to agree that this is a good video. I am searching for a multi watch winder. I am still searching but this was very informative.
Thank you, this was a great video & due to your review, we will confidently be purchasing an Orbita Siena1 today.
Great video, thank you! Might I ask, what is the difference between the programmable version and the rotorwind version?
Thank for the advise, very helpful
I was told using a auto winder wears out your watch and you need service more frequent. especially if you only wear the watch 3 times a year.
