Interesting border situation. I live in Detroit which Downtown sits less than 2 miles north of Downtown Windsor, Ontario and at least that is separated by a river. They are also currently building another bridge that will have biking and walking access between the countries so that will be interesting. Also being so close to the border some Apps will think you're in Canada even though you're in the US like occasionally Google Maps will show hotels prices in CAD instead of USD for example.

The ditch is quite startling. Just a reminder that even though everything looks the same on both sides of the border, people are innocently going for a walk or walking their dogs, kids playing in the park, looks like a regular suburban all American neighborhood - but if you cross the ditch, you will suffer ramifications as even though everything looks similar, innocent and peaceful, we are still divided by borders and countries that keep us separate. Just like animals in the wild who are territorial, we as human beings also mark our territory. The subtleness of the ditch is almost more disturbing than putting up something like a wall or razor linked fence, just because it's such a gentle reminder. Kind of creepy really.

I grew up in this area in the 60/70's. MyBuds father owned a fishboat and moored it on the US side. We, 15 &16 yo, were all Canadian. We would walk across the US border and go to the Blaine marina where the boat was moored. Then sail it to Ocean Park waters in Semiahmoo Bay (all Canadian Waters) and spend the day fishing/crabbing. Traps were landed in BC and then we went back to the US to moor the boat and for the long walk home. I oh so loved that life.
You could have said "hello from the United States" to that woman who ran by on the Canada said, maybe she would have said back "Hello from Canada". It would be really strange living in those houses on the border and knowing you technically cannot legally cross the street without breaking the law and instead have to drive through a border crossing station a mile away
Great video! Canadians can cross the street into the American side of the park without a passport or border checks as long as they leave the park back into canada. If they want to visit America beyond the park boundaries then they have to go through the official border crossing on the highway. Same rules for Americans they can walk to the Canadian side of the park and stay in Canada as long as they are within the park boundaries but they must exit the park on the American side.
Funny story I use to walk into Canada as a teen all the time because I had no idea it was a nono 😂 chill with my friends then come home but that sidewalk is gone now.
Is there no rule guidelines listed on a board somewhere? Most parks have a guidelines or rules section. It should state what you can do and possibly if you can cross over or not.
There was a guy who was thinking that if you have to stop at the Border, it can't be open. Let me explain what a closed Border is. During the time of COVID, it was closed to most of us, except for essential workers and Truckers so it was more or less closed. Another way to explain the difference between an open one and a closed one is when no one is allowed to enter, period. Having to stop at a Border is for the country you are entering wants to know if you are Admissable, that is all. During COVID it was in a way closed but only for those who had no specific reason, like tourism to cross.
When I watch this I recognize how simple it is in Europe without borders. You can just walk or drive through different countries without restriction, fences or control. There still exists a border police somehow but not like in other countries. I feel very free and priviledged with this now. The only thing is that the police of the different countries must work together better than in other countries with borders to avoid a lawless zone. 😅
Neat video Action Kid. I live on the Canadian east coast and often wondered about the western boarder. The border out east is mostly river and lake boundaries. Its ironic that there was a Tim Horton paper coffee cup littering the lawn on the Canadian side of the peace monument. Those darn coffee cups are everywhere in Canada.
They're definitely monitoring it. I'm sure they'll come up to you somewhere to give you a warning and send you back to the park. Only people from the other side originally can cross over the ditch.
If a Canadian initially entered the park by crossing over that ditch, they can jump the ditch to return to Canada as long as they remained in the park.
just FYI there are no fences between the U.S. and Canada border in general, this is not special for the Peace Arch border. the difference is just that you can legally cross. also the rule is that all nationals can enter the park and move freely on both sides as long as they leave on the side they entered from. it used to be generally accepted to „go through immigration“ just after leaving the park on the other side with your passport and while that might still be possible it is not the way it’s supposed to work.
This was awesome. I do have relatives in Surrey. On, or near the border of the state of North Dakota and the Canadian province of Manitoba, there is the International Peace Garden. Maybe that's what you were referring to? Cheers!
One big difference with the International Peace Garden Park in ND/MB, when you leave the park, all visitors have to clear customs; either Canadian or American
So, let me get this right. A person can legally step thru the monument, leavethe US fully and enter a foreign country without that governemnt's permission? That is just so interesting. Does anything like this exist on the boarders with Quebec and NY, VT, NH and ME? It seems that the Canadian govenment in the east are much much much stricter about things like this.
As long as you remain within the park. So technically you are in the "foreign country" but can't access any of it outside of the park until you cross the official border crossing. Think of it this way, when you drive across the Peach Bridge or Rainbow Bridge in Niagara Falls, when your car comes to the middle of the bridge you have technically entered the "foreign country" without permission from them until several feet/meters later when you get the the border booths. Same if you walk across the bridge at Niagara Falls. You've technically entered the foreign country without permission and are in the foreign country, but can't really access any of it until you talk to the border guards located several feet/meters into the country.
Pretty sure anyone going into this park can visit the park on either side. They just have to either come back the way they came or clear customs for proper entry. Technically when you’re at the peace arch and south of it you’re in the Washington state park side and when you’re north it’s the peace arch provincial park. People may be able to cross into the Canadian side here? I’ve done this three times. Took public transit to Blaine walkers through the park like you did walked through the border went to CBSA there and walked to white rock. I also chickened out of taking greyhound once back to Seattle and did this southbound. If you are in Blaine where the underpass is you’ll see a do not enter sign. That’s where walk throughs from us customs go. Good idea to have ID. border patrol and CBSA do have a strong presence here especially on the us side. If you leave in a different country than you started please do check in. The CBSA office is just north on the sidewalk so pictured and the USA CPB office is south of this point. Follow the signs.
Trivia factoid: Blaine is where the giant Asian hornets were first found about a year or two ago. :). Hopefully they can keep them from spreading AWAY from there!
I wonder how many of the cars/people passing you by were border patrol. The one honda minivan went down to the end, backed up in a driveway, and then went past you as the woman in the well put together cold weather walking outfit walked by.
You need to go to the Haskell Library that literally sits on the border between Derby Line, Vermont and Stanstead, Quebec. The border is marked inside the library and Canadians and Americans can cross freely inside. Just that Canadians can't exit the American side and Americans on the Canadian side.
The atmosphere at the US-Canada border looks more relaxed and friendly than my home in Texas on the US-Mexico border , I live in Nye , Anna ave street . My house is near the Rio Grande River. Just open the back door and see Nuevo Laredo Mexico. The border here is only a river separating the two borders 😁😁😄😄😄
Living on the border line doesn't really bother the dwellers as they are like living in a llittle village, whether you can criss-cross that line, make sure you're not caught by men in uniform...should be closely knitted family...
Your phone won't switch right at the border as there is some bleed over with carriers. For example when I was visiting Niagra Falls on the Canadian side my phone was locked into T-Mobile very reliably and only switched back to a Canadian carrier when I was a good ways on QEW (I was already in Canada at the time I entered from Windsor).
This is extremely interesting. It would suck living across the street from a beautiful park that you cannot go to without having to take a detour to a border crossing with your passport. I guess they don't have anything like this on the US-Mexico border. 😂
Very cool! Also confusing. Why are Canadians allowed to cross but not US citizens? Shouldn't they put a border crossing booth there so US citizens can cross over on foot?
I have an interesting question to ask: If several people in Canada encounter trouble or danger, and at the same time, there are police officers from the United States patrolling nearby, can those U.S. police officers cross the border to help them?
Washington State and British Columbia have some of the best landscapes on the continent. Stunning mountains, waterfalls, rainforests with two amazing major cities, its blessing to live in this part of the world.

This is the first time I can say I walked a place before Actionkid.
Awesome!
Which material used to make that pillar?
What happen if you cross and run back?
Living on the border line doesn't really bother the dwellers as they are like living in a llittle village, whether you can criss-cross that line, make sure you're not caught by men in uniform...should be closely knitted family...
Imagine that border patrol job, must be a peaceful life sitting in a park your whole life
what camera were used?
Very interesting
U coming to Vancouver
I was there!
@@ActionKid really shit so I missed out on video
Planning on filming your reeentry into the us as you filmed your cross over into Canada?
Where were you when you made that video? Canada or United States ?
did you cell phone switch to roaming right at the boundary monument?
Your phone won't switch right at the border as there is some bleed over with carriers. For example when I was visiting Niagra Falls on the Canadian side my phone was locked into T-Mobile very reliably and only switched back to a Canadian carrier when I was a good ways on QEW (I was already in Canada at the time I entered from Windsor).
I bet the landscaping of that park costs a small fortune. Not just some guy with a pickup and a lawn mower taking care of it.
There should be a border fending along the Canadian/usa border, in more areas. Both countries need improvement, on the border.
This is extremely interesting. It would suck living across the street from a beautiful park that you cannot go to without having to take a detour to a border crossing with your passport. I guess they don't have anything like this on the US-Mexico border. 😂
The locals can walk into the park without going through customs as long they dont go to the parking lot and head back into Canada when finished.
@@CameronJP That sounds very cool.
And this my friend is why us amaricans see Canadians as our brothers and possibly the next States
And we canadiens consider US as a possible future province 😆
5:34: I've never heard of even "Zero".
On the Canadian part of the park it’s free parking
Your a brave soul Action Kid! Your in two countries at once, what are they going to do! 😂
I'm sure they're tolerant of people crossing over briefly to snap pictures or videos
❤️🇨🇦😎👍
Very cool! Also confusing. Why are Canadians allowed to cross but not US citizens? Shouldn't they put a border crossing booth there so US citizens can cross over on foot?
How about dual citizen. or US Citizen who crosss Canada from main border and jump to the US side?
Is there any immigration ?
Safest place in Canada/US 👌👌👌
Should go to the USA~ Mexico border. No fence there either. Get the real content, a country being invaded
The part Trump built is starting to fall
I have an interesting question to ask: If several people in Canada encounter trouble or danger, and at the same time, there are police officers from the United States patrolling nearby, can those U.S. police officers cross the border to help them?
I don't think so. U.S. police cannot operate in Canada, which is outside their jurisdiction.
Maybe you need an enhanced license only
It's going to end soon so I think they stopped issuing them.
What about Canadians? Is it just as illegal for Canadians to cross the US Border as well too?
How can I escape to Canada?
