      @@saurabhsaoji8680 You're right : nothing here to compare. Marten Root played a piece composed by J. S.Bach. He learned and remembered every single note in the score. That was his aim - his effort. If you do not like the composition - and/or his interpretation, it's fine.(You can turn to your favourite music/musicians instead
      Improvisation is a different artform. In music there is nothing like inferior or superior. Musicians who show despect for less experienced players / players with different preferences - have something to learn in regards to manners-ethics.

I love the mellow sound of the instrument. As a bonus, he has the body language to match his sensitive dynamics. This is my new role model for playing that piece.

    It’s a Brazilian-Funk song, and all time most-viewed Brazilian VIDEO on YT, with 1.7 Billions
    The point?
    You’ll see that he used the same notes progression, even the beginning of this Partita,Which shows how great Bach was, influencing Pop songs even today
    PS: I’m not criticizing the MC Fioti, an ex-poor guy from favela who studied a little bit of music and made the Hit, I actually think he was pretty creative, and through Bach, he could leave poverty and give a Royalty life to his family. Although makes sense that he made 0 good songs after that one.

      The blind (wohlbemerkt!) organist Helmut Walcha said that. He recorded the complete works of Bach twice. The first was right after the war on intact historical instruments my country (USA) had not bombed to bits. (Ugghh. 😘) He wanted to do his part to offer his country the best possible "vistas" during a difficult--nay: impossible--time.
      Walcha ist für mich ein Deutscher alle Deutschen. Nicht "das andere Deutschland." Nein: Deutschland tout court.

      It bothers me. It’s the the thing you work on, so the music can sing and not sound like a beat box, which admittedly has its own charms. Yes, slamming keys down is very disruptive to the illusion of legato. The other thing that’s very difficult on flute is not popping the keys open. So the tone is always matching the ones next to it.

I suppose since all music was once new at a time when there already were certain styles of instruments, i could actually play all of Bach’s flute pieces on a delicious low pitched French flute and nobody can tell me “that’s not historically correct”. There's so much thoughtfulness and precise detail in this performance, a structuring of phrasing that is beautifully aligned with the harmonic / melodic path. And, at the same time containing unique choices throughout made by the performer that are organically woven within the inherent structural fabric of the work, all the while making it absolutely committed to beauty. There's so much more going on here. Thank you so very much Marten Root. Absolutely beautiful.

    The musician knows the piece by heart? I am utterly astonished, in a very good way of course.

    • @edelahaye
      @edelahaye 4 роки тому +17

      Sure. Actually every soloist know the tunes and play them by heart. Sometimes, you can see a score, but it's only a memory aid. It's not time to read the notes when you play in front of an audience. You have much more to put into the music.

      all semi-serious flutists know this piece by memory - it's arguably one of the most important pieces for a flutist nowadays to know, and everyone learns it in university if they hadn't already learned it before

    Lovely, your tempos are wise. It sounds so much better on this type of flute. It is such a beautiful partita. When it comes to classical (baroque) music, no doubt Bach is the Master of masters. Bravo!!

    I must say one of the most inspiring things to hear Root play all alone, and it's overwhelming in a great way because of how challenging it really is in all aspects. From a woodwind background I am in awe of how beautifully this is played technically, and even more so in how the music itself shine absolutely the most

    What wonderful playing of a miraculous piece. So many things to enjoy but for me it's the unerring sense of where the music is going allied to such a seductive sound, at once sweet and powerful. Such a lovely lower register, which really "fixes" the bottom line. Many congratulations to all concerned for making this available.

    Performance is stunning! The flute is tuned down very low, even lower than a standard baroque pitch. It's actually sounding in G minor

      שקד בר-שי
      “Standard” according to whom? I’ve read that some French orchestras played as low as A = 392 ... and that _Chorton_ in Leipzig under Bach’s tenure was A = 470.

    • @AndreasGilger
      @AndreasGilger 3 роки тому +2

      One could argue that this is a very ordinary pitch and a modern flute playing this would sound at b minor :) Besides, as the other commenter said, 415 was far from being the "standard" pitch in the 18th century

    That's a great performance. That first movement is such a balancing act between emphasizing the structure everywhere, and keeping the flow going. To me, this is one of the best performances I've heard of this movement. Ah, and he ignores that weird note at the start of the second half that was probably a typo. Good choice.

I've been doing it this way for a few years, also playing the chord for the d-minor false cadence. Never heard anyone else understand it this way. Looking forward to hearing the rest, now. The clarinet and flute are much nicer in my opinion.
      I can't imagine this piece on a sax at all.
