Ok so this may sound weird but every time I watch your videos, Becky, I feel like I’m a gardener and I’m not I feel like I’m part of it and like I’m actually gardening myself, I feel like I’m with you in the garden hands-on doing it myself I know sounds weird right but that’s how I feel so Becky you make it feel like we’re literally right there beside you gardening and cooking and baking. I absolutely love it and today I really need it as I’m stuck home off work with pneumonia, you’re truly a godsend
Oh dear, I hope and pray you recover quickly, friend!
I know what you mean! I hope you feel better friend!
Oh no. Prayers for a speedy recovery. Hang in there. ❤❤❤
Love your videos. Your garden is going to be so beautiful with all the flowers. Cant wait for the next gardening video. Xx
Prayers for healing and comfort . And I know exactly what you mean about feeling like your right there with her gardening
My Dad used to buy some cheap beer to put in our garden in clean tuna fish cans(low, round cans). The slugs like it and drown. It is obviously a process, but we always grew organic(no pesticides)for our family. So it was a good solution for us and just a suggestion. 😊❤
Works for pill bugs too!
Becky, I’ve been gardening for over 45 years. I would strongly recommend you do away with the with the garden fabric altogether. Let your bed breathe during the winter.
I agree.
For the ants, sprinkle cornmeal! They'll take it back, eat it, and die but it won't hurt the plants or useful bugs. It takes a little while to work, and he generous with the meal, but I've done it a few times. It does work!
Food grade diatomaceous earth works well for ants as well.
i second cornmeal.. came to say this.. pour it out and all around.. the ants carry it back to the nest, they all eat it and it expands in their stomachs and no more ants
Cinnamon works great too
Thanks everyone, the ants are horrible here this year. I love the circle of life but crikey, I’m trying to grow food here. I’m willing to share but they’re killing stuff 😢.
Grits work too
when you go thrift shopping buy old cookie sheets and trays for your backup seed watering trays
Old cookie sheets work great .
Thank you for filling the hard days with hope, Becky. 💕 It may seem silly but I’ve been listening to your videos while visiting with my sister at the cemetery; she would have loved you so much.
❤❤❤❤❤😢
Oh my goodness 😩😩😩❤️❤️🙏🙏
Condolences ❤ Becky is a light in my day too ❤
Not at all weird ❤
How beautiful to say , ❤
I planted bare root strawberries twice and they said in the instruction to presoak the bare roots for at least two hours before planting. Water them well since you didn't soak them first. May you have a very fruitful harvest.
Hi Becky, hello planty friends, hope everyone have a great week ❤❤
Oh my gosh- I just ordered my first GreenStalk, using your discount code- thank you so much!!!!! I am over the moon excited for it to arrive.
I’ve been chronically ill since 2019 and planting and enjoying my aero garden has been the extent of what I could handle. After binging ALL your episodes and also little mountain ranch I’m challenging myself to do more.
I am so filled with joy, something that has been very missing in my life until now. Keep doing what your doing, the way you share your heart is changing lives!!!!
Prayers for your condition to be improved through new found food and new found joy by the blood of Jesus.
Becky, I seem to remember that at your last house, your chickens had free run of your garden and they feasted on the bugs that now are eating your plants. Maybe you could let the girls go bug hunting. Just a thought. 😊
Consider putting a tarp down before planting on your patio(table too), that way you can collect that soil instead of losing some with sweeping(or spraying away with the hose).😊❤
Good afternoon Becky!
Re: ants
Put some DE (diatomaceous earth) around the plants. It works like a charm!
Agreed! That stuff kills so many bugs & pests!! Get the food grade one, pet & human safe!! ❤
Does it harm the plants?
Diatomaceous earth also kills the bees!!! So personally I don’t like to use it! 😓
Diatomaceous earth works good for ants. Here in sandy Florida we have a ton of ants. I use DE frequently and it helps!
@@user-sm7eq1fs8b It can kill bees but bees typically dont crawl through it and they have hairs to naturally defend them against the powder.
Josh, you such a good hubby! Becky I wish I wasn’t 71 and instead grew up with you, such a go getter!❤❤❤
All the hard work you and Josh have put into the garden and flower beds by the house really look amazing!! Oh and your parents hard work as well.your place looks like something you would see featured in.a magazine. I always thought I'd be doing for my family what you do for yours, but it wasn't to be. I'm 57 and have some serious health issues. I do what I can for now. As I remain prayerful that my health will improve.
Wow your tomato plants sure have bounced back👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
See, I told you they would be fine. All they needed was up potted into new nutritional soil.
I think you should HEAVILY consider just doing a cover crop over winter instead of the landscape fabric. You can use a nitrogen fixer such as legumes. It will vastly improve the soil's nitrogen over the winter.
I saw that on the homesteading channel she cut the bottom out of plastic cups and put the cup around her cabbage plants while they are just getting started to protect them from those bugs.
Becky , just a tip for planting out your flower beds . If you planted mostly perennials then you wouldn’t be so overwhelmed with all the planting out every year and you could just add to it every year where you have spaces . ❤
I have been watching you plant flowers, and got sick of not having flowers of my own. I have started a bunch of seeds of my own, and I’m so excited for the summer ahead! Thank you!
When you talk about beans it brings back memories of sitting with my MIL on her back setting area and snapping green beans for her to can and shucking other beans and peas. She would talk about her childhood experiences…… glad I got to share those times with her.
Becky using a garden wagon is so much easier than the wheel barrel
I like to say a massive thank you for motivating me. I suffer with depression and other medical issues. I used to love growing flow and fruit and vegetables. But lost it over last few years. Watching you have got me back to growing and excited about what to come. Also loving your patch cooking. Thank you
Diatomaceous earth for ants. Dust on your chickens and nest boxes for feather mites. Buy a bulk bag as it has loads of uses and it is organic too.
You have the most beautiful home and with the flowers it will be breath taking for sure.....
If I get caught by my landlord for putting in a tiny garden out back I’m sending them to you Becky!! Be prepared!😂❤️
Becky…while you were watering the beds, I kept seeing a rainbow in the spray…so cool! God gives us signs each day of His creation! Have a blessed evening! Blessings, Miss Linda 🌸🌸🌸
Will the shock waves over grow the standard variety of petunias?
I don’t know if anyone else has mentioned this already, but often you have aphids if you see alot of ants on your plants. Ants farm the sticky stuff on aphids.
I think I am looking forward to your garden as you are!! It is going to be stunning this summer! Your energy seems boundless and you get so much done! Thanks for taking all of us along for the ride and bringing joy into our lives!
Happy to hear your tomatoe plants have perked back to life. I cant wait to see your greenstalks all in bloom.
My instructions on strawberries was to soak the bare roots in water overnight... I have mine in a green stalk too 😀
I came here to say this as well. I tried not soaking my 1st year growing, and they all dried out and died.
The white lace petunia will be gorgeous. Peanuts are not planted on the east coast until the soil temperature is 65 to 70 degrees.
My one year old granddaughter loves watching you! Calms her right down if she is fussy….😀
I have been watching for a couple years now and love your show! You’re so friendly, happy and very knowledgeable . I am 71 and have learned a lot. I could watch you everyday❤️
For the ants, try sprinkling (cheap!) cinnamon on the plants and soil. Worked great for me!
Hola Becky and friends ❤
I'm having a horrible day. And it's nice to see a happy video ❤ thanks for taking my mind off things ❤
I wish your day will turn around the right way for you!
This too shall pass, hoping you have a better day.
Thank you.
❤❤❤
I always get rid of ants from raised beds with cinnamon. Simply sprinkle the cinnamon powder where the most ants are or have their streets. Good luck.
You got alot done today!! Be proud of yourself. Can't wait to watch it all grow with you!
Ms. Becky, I am only a few years older than you but you bring me so much joy and peace. I recently had an ischemic stroke and watching you is helping me to recover
Hello! It is possible that you brought the ants home from the nursery in your "leggy" pansies; that might explain why they're not in your own seedlings yet. Try to capture a few of them in a lidded glass jar and get them identified (so you know exactly what you are dealing with). [I had severe infestations of "ants" in my container garden one year and then couldn't bring in the containers to overwinter. I was devastated to lose everything. They might have been termites. Our wood deck had a few destroyed posts...] Thanks everyone for the cornmeal/grits/cinnamon anti-ant tips. Thanks, Becky, for the positive videos. You are so industrious! -Sally from MO
Beautiful garden Becky! Beware of putting nasturtiums in with other plants as they will take over an area. Beautifully to be sure, but they do like to roam. They love a warm sunny wall or trellis to climb up on and really put on a show. I can't wait to see everything in full bloom. I won't be able to do any gardening myself this year so I am doubly grateful you are sharing yours with us. Thanks.
You convinced me! I ordered the pink one 💞 with the spinner. Happy Mother’s Day to me. If my Mom was still with us she would love it.
The excitement of it being planting day is off the charts! Hello Becky from Australia. So much progress 😀
I love your patio, wonderful size, and love all the patio furniture, etc. Really nice!
What a productive day… Can’t wait to see everything blooming!
Seeing Josh’s folded fabric against yours, reminds me of my mums folded fitted sheets compared to mine 😂
Diatomaceous earth is a great natural pest control
Just wanted to share that I reuse my soil/compost/planter bags for weeds and emptying my trash cans from my backyard . I hate plastic bags! And I don’t feel so bad when I can reuse them ! Also for yard cleaning and my pets-waste. ❤ When you have a pot that is root bound you need to tease the roots so it it easier for the plant’s roots to spread out 🌱🌱🌱🌱🌱💚💚💚🌱🌱🌱🌱
1 bag of Happy Frog here in central Texas is $32.00. Wow 8 bags
She's probably paying $20-$22 in Oregon
Your garden is going to be breathtaking!!! I can't wait to see!!
Hi Becky, I’ve been following your journey for about a year now and you have been a huge inspiration in my life! From challenging myself in the kitchen, to trying to find my own green thumb. I’ve done very minimal gardening in my life but you’ve shown me that you do not need to be a professional, you just need to keep on learning. I’ve started a whole bunch of seeds this year (for the first time) and things are growing beautifully! Getting out in the sun has been great for my mental health and I’m really having fun with it. thank for continuing to inspire me, I can’t wait to see what the gardening season has in store for you!
Hey, Becky ! Love your gardening !
I can't wait to see your garden growing in full force this summer! 🌱💕
I absolutely love the app called seed to spoon. You get so much information for planting your garden for your particular area. What plant to have together and what plants that are considered enemies. Also frost dates and when to plant and harvest. This is my go to app! Also it’s free!
Hi Becky, good job on getting everything you got done, that was a lot . Thanks to Josh for helping. Everything is going to look beautiful. Thanks for sharing
I got my new pink GreenStalk using their mother's day sale and your code. I'm planting strawberries and ground cherries in it
I been wishing for this all day !!!!! My favourite Gardner and look at the grow room oh my Beautiful
Take some of your egg shells and dry them in the oven. Toss them in to your vitamix and add water. Pulse a few times to crush the shells. Sprinkle them around your garden. Slugs do not like to crawl over rough surfaces. To a slug, crushed egg shells are like crushed glass. You can do the same thing with your used coffee grounds.
It's going to be beautiful! Becky, I always feel like your videos are to short, and like I need to be helping you plant..
It seems like the soil blocks work better for flowers and the cells are better for veggies ❤ I have a stacking planter and I did alyssums in it and it’s so pretty
Our average last frost date here is southwestern Wisconsin is May 15th but after 54 years of gardening here, my annuals DO NOT go into the ground until the end of May. Late snow showers, cold, cold nights have happened. I’ve lost a lot of plants, time and money rushing things just because I was excited and the days seemed to be warming up for good. Lol❤❤❤❤
I rescued a tulip from the garden area of a bad terrible capitalist big box store and I brought it home and it got repotted and I talked to it and tell it how lovely it is and it is starting to send up new shoots and it's only been like two weeks and I was very excited that some thing that was basically set aside as if it wasno longer worthy, is going to have a whole life appreciated and loved and hopefully it'll end up being planted someplace where it'll pop up repeatedly!
Becky - for your ant problem, take oatmeal and grind it in your blender to make a powder. Then sprinkle the oat flour around the plants (not heavy just lightly). The ants will carry the oat flour back to the nests and when they eat the oat flour, it will swell and kill off the ants. The benefits of the oat flour are that its good for your plants.
your plant starts are looking really awesome this year can't wait til the flowers start😊
Love garden days! Planted on Good Friday and harvested my first strawberry this morning. Will have peppers by the weekend hopefully 🤞. Thanks Becky for giving me the courage to try and garden !
Greetings from Ireland, Great job, Its the bees knees.
Perfect timing! Thank you Becky for sharing!🎉
I cannot wait to see all of your dahlias that you planted pop up. They are beautiful flowers. Your garden will be beautiful this year. With all the different colors. You are doing a great job becky. I really enjoy all of your videos.
I’m so looking forward to all those flowers blooming. It’s going to be so beautiful
My dad always grew Rattlesnake green beans. Very prolific. Such good flavor also. Loving to see all the garden coming along. Love this time of year.
I am dealing with the ant problem for 3 years now, gardening without landscape fabric. I hate them so much, they are driving me nuts. 😂
Seams that they stop munching on espeacially the cabbages and radishes, when the plants reach a bigger size.
Same problems all over the world. 😅 (Germany)
rolly polys LOVE to be under cover of plants you will have MORE than ever
I'm in zone 5B and have tried growing strawberries several times in my green stalk planters and they do not survive the winter. I think you are in a higher zone so you will probably be ok. Just a warning to others in my climate - plant them in the ground. I love your videos, thank you for all the hard work you put into them.
If possible, they may survive if wheeled into a garage over winter. Just keep on eye on moisture level through winter.
5B here also Mine spent the winter is an unheated greenhouse AND are blooming like made 2023 Sparkle berries
So glad yr doing a greenstalk of strawberry plants. I bought a very small greenstalk for strawberries and now I know what to do yay!
❤ Happy Monday 😁
I love the variation. The beans etc. Our cucumbers, tomatoes and peppers usually thrive. I love watching your videos makes me want to expand my garden. 💖
I can't wait to see the mature plants. Especially, the ones around the tree!
So glad youre getting so many more people subscribing to your channel! Wtg girl!
Wow, a lot of work, can’t wait to see it all come to fruition ♥️🦋🙏🏻
found your channels last year and been catching up on previous videos. excited to get to follow along this growing season and get to watch everything grow. love it!😍🥰
I wonder how the petunias would look, if you planted one of each color; around one layer. Then rotate by one, on the next layer. And keep doing this all the way down the planter. It would almost be a swirl of color!
Putting a tarp down while planting the green stocks will make clean up easier and faster!
Its going to be so beautiful once everything is in full bloom.
Didn’t the strawberries need to soak first before planting?
That’s exactly what I was going to say. I’ve done bare root strawberries several times and they always say to soak them first. 👩🌾
Usually about 20 minutes in warm water. Then plant.
I’m excited for you in the garden this season Becky…
Saw the planters on your show. Just ordered my first one. Such a great price!!!! So excited to try it out!!!!!! Thank you for the link!!!
Fantastic video. 💕
Your garden will be very productive this summer and I can't wait for the flowers to start blooming and also the Green Stalks. Oh my, the dahlias will be spectacular. Well done Becky‼️🤗❤️
I grew scarlet runners for years . Beautiful. My late husband loved eating them on the vine .
I sure wish I could afford those planters. If they were on sale for one more month, I could. Darn it!! 😊 love your videos, Becky!!! ❤
Your garden and landscaping are so beautiful. My cabbage and cauliflower are looking pretty sad i think I will have to buy more as well. So glad I found your channel. Happy gardening!
Hi Becky! In here to say, 1. I LOVE watching your videos! And 2. Get yourself a leaf blower, so easy to blow the last bit of soil and keeps the concrete clean. Hugs beautiful friend.
I'm so glad to see you get rid of the fabric, totally cool to cover them in the off season, but I've felt like you were working around it the past two years. You can keep weeds surpressed by not leaving the beds bare in late fall, winter, and early spring.
I so want to get some more greenstalk! My one is doing great with carrots, radishes, cilantro, strawberries, peppers and bush beans.
I've been checking if you were on today. So happy! ♥️
Becky love spending time with you. Always enjoy whatever you're doing. You always accomplish so much.
My last frost date is May 24! I'm chomping at the bit here!!! Epically with this unseasonably warm weather.
Our last frost date was April 29th, but I'm so glad i didn't jump on it and plant stuff out, because we had a late snow storm over the weekend! I didn't have time to harden things off before the last frost date, and it's been too cold the last few days. But we're supposed to get to ideal temperatures for tomatoes and peppers tomorrow. So I'll start hardening off and hope to plant this weekend!
❤❤❤ so exciting to get back out there. I’m hardening off my plants now. Loving the rain season also. Hasn’t been cold perfect weather here in Eastern Kentucky
Hey Becky, tomatoes and peppers are different. Don’t plant your peppers yet. Let the soil get warmer. Like when your nights are 60 degrees. Unless, of course, they get too huge! Peppers love the climate of the desert southwest, so that’s like a hint.
you need to check under the ridge of your wooden planters because that's where all the slugs and snails will go to hide .same as containers they go where its dark ,
I’m so excited to see your green stalks grow out!!
