- I did overshoot the angle trying to eyeball it but there is plenty to learn from the experience. In my next video I will take one shim out and make a new tie bolt that anybody can build from parts from the local hardware store.

I have to do this to my Dakota as well. Split mono's, Calvert adjustable shocks and cal tracks.. Drive shaft looks level (as opposed to slightly down). I have the shims so your video is very timely! 418 stroker, fresh build, only 5 passes made, still tuning! Thanks for the awesome content.
Just go 2° at a time if you try the eyeball method don't do what I did.😆
Another half dozen plates, and you will have one of those squatted trucks that are all the rage... LOL
You need to measure the angle of the transmission output shaft. If the transmission is pointed down 3 degrees, you must point your pinion up 3 degrees. lifting and lowering the truck will not change this relationship. If you are drag racing this will change things, but for a street-driven truck, you want the pinion and the transmission to be at the same angle.

you crack me up with the head butting to the bedside, every replay i cringed and laughed at the same time, I appreciate your humor and tech info, I've got 4 degrees crankshaft, 2 degrees driveshaft and 4 degrees rearend, Its a 79 el camino, any suggestions on what numbers to adjust to?
We have a bad ass anti roll bar and a fix coming for the shim where you will have adjustment on pinion agin without needing shim, if you have a link to your facebook i can hit you up to talk about it!

Also, what sort of traction bars are those? Home made? I feel like I remember you mentioning them in a video a while back but I can't remember what you said.
Comp engineering slide a link it has bushings in the middle for a softer street ride. I'm cheap and a hillbilly. 😆

You should really weld plates on the front and backs of the spring perch to axle. On my 9" I made my own and welded them in my garage - a no brainer thing to do. I did this to mine before my new engine. My buddy didn't and you should see what his 545 BBF did to his. If you are worried about making them, Im pretty sure Calvert or Moser has them.
As for all those pinion degree wedges. You should just do it right and cut yours off and buy new ones and set it at whatever angle you need. That is way to many plates. Changing the height that that much is most likely messing up your "instant center" too. You will be fighting your rear end forever.

@@TPVPRO Ya I sub to The Old Mans Garage and before he changed the name. Billy's truck hauls ass for sure. Personally - just my opinion I like their idea of the "block" instead of stacking so many wedges. Maybe its just the camera but your stacked looks like they make an arch when so many are stacked - like it will make a full circle if you stacked enough together. Like a "pie cut" when making exhaust. This has to be messing with how your spring is loading and unloading.
Trust me, I'm not against using these wedges. I have a 70 Cougar. I put the Calvert split mono leafs, their bars and just put in their 4 degree wedge plate. Im still yet to test them though but If I did my calculations I believe I have 3.5 or so negative. Not sure if you watched the link I sent you but the angles you are looking for are not only what your rear end is but actually how it coordinates with the angle of your transmission.

Oh and if you didn't notice, Billy welded the spring perch plates to the axle tube like I suggested you do. My buddy's 67 Mustang with the 545 BBF basically ripped his completely off his axle housing. That's BBF "N/A" torque for you though. 🦾
You should get you a digital angle finder to ease things out. Do you know what the driveline angle was before the shim stack ?
Before I added 4 it was horrible it was up. Used a finder then at a shop. It sat with the 4 shims for 4 years when it cut a 1.34 60. May put it back because it had zero vibration only change it to see if it would help it to hook but it didn't.
Why didn't you just put the jack stands under the frame and jack the rear end? Instead of the jack under the leaf spring? What if the wood would have kicked out with your head under there?
Because my driveway goes downhill and the stands are not stable in the flat part of the frame. Also try it on a level surface you have to evenly lift both ends or it's unstable AF. It's either the truck falling or the leaf take your pick.

I don't think you want it facing up on a s10 that has been lowered at all. I have been watching a lot of videos and depending on how rigid you diff is you don't need much at all. Still learning myself.

Yes they all have one to center the diff.
Yah had the same thing but ripped off the tranny from the motor, 2 trans housings later and a shit load of cash 💸 sold the engine and then the body with regret..so pissed.

Why not just use an Allen head bolt?
Harder to find and you have to order.
@@TPVPRO I usually get them at my local Lowes or Home Depot. They have a decent assortment up to ⅝". At least here in my area they do.
