I just gave my daughter comb coils to start locs…some of them puffed up. I used that tool for the first time .75 watched ur video and I made the puffed parts less noticeable. Thanks for ur video
That is awesome! Thank you so much for sharing. That is truly rewarding to know that I could help you. Crocheting is a very difficult technique to master for the first time without poking yourself in the fingers, so for you to actually do it and get the results you wanted, CONGRATULATIONS!!! 🎉 big props to you! And congratulations on beginning your daughters loc journey! How exciting!

I have watched a lot of videos on locs, none seem to be helpful😏 but this right here helped me in locking my hubby's hair😊. Thank you🎉

Thank you for the technical I want to start my hair but I didn’t want to wait for it to loc
Hi and thank you for watching. You are so welcome. I hope this video can help you.. growing locs are a process and you must trust the process if locs are really what you desire to have. Please keep me updated
Looks great! I usually finish off with an interlock instead of a twist.
That's a great idea! There are so many different methods that can be used. Thank you for watching!
Hi
Thank you for this video 📹
My pleasure 😊
🔥🔥 thanks this the length of my mom and brother instant locs i did it the same way except i didnt pull the hairs out unless i was and didnt notice but i also wanted to retwist the roots with loc gel but instead i crocheted their roots too. Its easy both ways but i like the loc gel look better gives it more clean smooth look and the crocheting the roots gives a original dread head look. But thanks i need this video and i subscribed 🌹🌹
Glad I could help
Thanks for the content. Can you share the video link for this or any progress updates on instant locs please and thank you?
In Richmond right outside of Houston. Do you service kids hair?
Nice
Wow😮, i love this and where are you located
How did you role your locs anti clock-wisely or clockwise when crocheting
Good work
Thank you so much 😀
Great video, where are you located
Thank You for posting this instructive video. I will be starting my own locs and want to take as much care as possible. I’m super excited about beginning my loc journey. I bought a natural twist gel, with natural ingredients that I saw recommended by another loctition with locs herself. Do you have any recommendations on prepping my hair and scalp for locs?? Other than clean, of course. Lol Thanks
Glad it was helpful! Congratulations on beginning your journey. Hot oil treatments, deep conditioners and getting a proper trim could be helpful prior to beginning your journey so that you can start out with your hair strong and healthy. Just keep up a good regimen to moisturize your locs and you will be fine.
@@houstonlocfairy Ok Thanks 👍🏼
you good in doing this I wish I could meet you and you make it to my hear
Nice, really well done. Is it better on blow dry hair, or just wash towel dry hair?
Thank you so much for watching. Yes so either way is fine as long as it’s dry.
I love your process dear, but can you tell me the type of gel lock to use in packing the dread so that it will look shinny and neat
To do the instant locs, it’s best on dry hair. To retwist I use Genuine African Formula Extra Hold Locking Gel. That’s it. Thank you for watching. Hope this helps.
Learnt something 👍, can I get a slow version of the tutorial
I used the crochet tool, and didn't like it, because you can tell they are not natural, because they have small holes, that look different than puffy natural locs.
So I restarted the ones I did, and just me personally I like the natural look.
But, most stylist use it to fix thin locs.
Also, your right you can get really stuck by that neddle, you have to be careful. ❤
Great job 👍🏼 thanks alot. with this video i can do better than i think. I've tried it before it didn't work out well. And I've been thinking of how i can do it.
. Please How can i make it strong at the root the one i did was not strong it was lose and what do i need to apply on it. .. please i will be waiting for your reply. Thank you...
Hi. I’m so glad you are learning how to crochet and enjoyed my video. There is no product needed to do instant locs. You want to try to stay at least and inch or two away from the scalp. The roots do not need to be crocheted. Focus on the ends and the roots will begin the budding process on their own. I hope this helps. Thank you
So when it's time for a retwist, can you do the instant loc method so you don't have to wait for the new growth to loc?
You sure can. That’s called crochet Loc Maintenance. You can have the new growth crocheted instead of twisted.
I just got mine done....Since I was growing out a relaxer I asked for instant locs....well, I left with half palm roll mixed with some lazy crotchet. I didn't know any better until I posted pics on a facebook loc page...Im in Houston....where are you located

Omg this was so informative. How can I get in on these classes? Majority of my clients are locs & I get asked if I do instant locs.
Locfairy.com. I’d love to teach you. Contact me. Your clients will be so happy.
What size are this how many locs 💙
I definitely would love to take a class to lien how to do instant locs …how much do your classes start for ?
Please check out my website for a list of my one in one courses and prices. Locfairy.com. Thank you.
I am interested in starting my loc journey. My question is if I decide at any point that I do not want to continue to have my hair locked with the instant loc method can these be taken out without cutting my actual hair?
Hi! Great question. Thank you for watching. Loc extensions that are done by using the crochet method are permanent. Instant locs are permanent. Some stylists do temporary locs , but those are done using a different method and can be removed. Instant locs can be combed out or cut only.
Does the direction that you twist the loc as you crochet matter ?
Great question. No it doesn’t.
I need my hai locks please how much ?
Could u show how u got the root twisted downwards instead of sideways.
I sure can. Please see my how to Retwist video as well. Thank you
Should i blow dry straight or can i leave it as and air dried afro?
It’s never necessary to blow dry your natural hair straight when getting any type of locs. You can just let your natural hair air dry.
I’ve had my starter locs for about 5 months their starting to lock/half way locked is it ok if I used this to go ahead and fully lock them?
I would recommend leaving them alone. Sounds like they are budding.
hey i’m about to start my instant locs soon and i was wondering, would it work it i twist my hair first, then start instant locking?
As long as you are matting the hair up and sectioning properly than either method you use will be fine
Is the client in the video hair blown out a little bit? Reason I’m asking is because I have Afro 4C hair and I’m wondering should I blow it out just a bit before doing the instant locs. Thanks for the video. It’s very informative. Great job.
@@whitneyanderson564 no. There’s no need to blow it out or use any heat prior to doing instant locs.
Do you blow dry the hair ? Or use any products ?
I don’t blow dry the hair but the hair is dry preferably. My Houston Loc Fairy Magic Mist and Growth Serum is used to hydrate and moisturize and to retwist I use Genuine African Formula Extra Hold Locking Gel. That’s it. Thank you for watching. Hope this helps.
Can you show instalocs on relaxed hair please
Sure! I have a video of that on my IG page. Check it out. @houstonlocfairy. I’ll post one on UA-cam. Thank you.
Should your hair be dry why they do them? My appointments on Monday and idk if I should moisturize my hair
Your hair does need to be dry and you should not put any product in your hair. You should ask your Loctician how she would like for you to prepare
Hello! Question my daughter's locs are starting to bud. For the bud do i keep pulling / twising down and crocheting down? Ive been trying but it doesnt seem to move, im definitely new to this. Thank you!
Hi!! Awesome! Budding is an exciting stage! So that’s tricky a bit. I would need to know why you are pulling? Twisting? And crocheting? A retwist typically consists of cleaning the parts the best you can to keep hairs separated and in their designated areas and then palm rolling the new growth only. Any loose hairs can be wrapped around the loc. That’s it. Now if crocheting than crochet just the new growth and that’s it. Hope this helps.
@@houstonlocfairy I appreciate it! So yes I was palm rolling the loose hairs in but I couldn't get the bud to even out so I keep twisting and pulling it down to try and even out the loc. It sounds crazy how I'm explaining it! But I appreciate your word! I will just continue to palm roll it and work on cleaning up the parts. I'm trying to do my best for my baby girl before she is able to sit in a salon chair, she is autistic. Thank you so much again!! 💜
@@Nikki_M00 yes I’m sure you are doing great. But there are no evening out the buds. The buds are how the loc forms so if you alter the budding than you are altering the progress of the locs. Keep asking questions and becoming knowledgeable! You are doing great mom!
Are you twisting and crochet the loc at the same time
Yes
My son has curly hair. I can't do his hair wet because it's very curly...he doesn't have 4c hair at all! Help pp
Can you comb them our after a while:?
Yes
Is the needle pointing hook up or down.
Up
Wow
What is the name of locking gel and can you wash in a week after install
I use Genuine African Formula Extea Hold loc gel and yes you can wash as frequent as you like with instant locs but after 1 week is not necessary unless you have a medical condition or are expecting to get your hair dirty or go swimming or something. But washing will not alter or negatively affect your instant locs if done properly.
@@houstonlocfairy I just saw a video, yesterday where the loctician installed instant locks but advocated using no gel at all. Instead she said to wash and condition with an oil. The locks seemed to be god. What are your thoughts on this.?
What type of crotchet about using plz?
I’m sorry, I don’t understand your question.
Pls how did u use the crushet the hair inside
So I’m pulling the hair in and out and matting it with the hook on the needle.
What product if any did you use?
My Houston Loc Fairy Magic Mist and Growth Serum to hydrate and moisturize and to retwist I use Genuine African Formula Extra Hold Locking Gel. That’s it. Thank you for watching. Hope this helps.
My question what is the average cost for a guy with a Mohawk to get dreads or started dreads??
It could be a couple hundred dollars depending on where you go. There are factors that need to be considered even though you say Mohawk, it could still be just as much as a full head based on what size you want them to be and the technique you prefer. For instant locs, I charge hourly so it can range from anywhere between $500-$1000. A consultation is highly recommended so that you can discuss this with your Loctician prior to booking the service and they should be able to give you options and payment plans. I offer AfterPay for my clients so that helps a lot.
if i want a retwist when already done this what type of retwist am i able to do
Please clarify. I don’t understand
@@houstonlocfairy do I need to keep interlocking/crotcheting when doing a retwist
@@Rawpimp ok so you can choose any method of your preference to maintain your new growth with instant locs. Any method is suitable.
Please what do If I want to renew the hair?
Hi. What do you mean?
What product did you use?
For retwisting? Genuine African formula extra hold locking gel.
Everyone says loc can’t be done on dry hair . How does it stay in place?
Crocheting is recommended while the hair is dry for best results opposed to damp or wet no matter the hair texture.
Does your client hair have product in it?
No none at all
There is only product used at the end when doing the retwist.
@@houstonlocfairy thank you
If I’m recently relaxed, do I have to get back combed ?
Great question. Probably might be needed if your hair is bone straight. Yes.
Why do you start with a comb coil then undo the comb coil and start the instant process?
That is just my method that I use to ensure that I get the results that I desire. Every Loctician has their own technique. I recommend doing what works best for you.
It s possible to undo it after 1 year.i wouldn't have to much damage please?
You can comb them out. Research the process. It is very time consuming depending on length and number of locs you have.
@@houstonlocfairy thanks what you recommend me please vanilles instant locks or start locks.
Do you use any product?
Only product used is to retwist
How long was the hair ?
Her hair in this video was no longer than 6 inches.
@@houstonlocfairy thanks
Will they become thicker with time or is this the size they will be forever
The loc extensions will stay the same size but we have to wait and see how his hair grows out.
Why don't all stylists do this. I hate my ends just being out. Where are you located?
Houston
Great job, need slow motion
Decrease the speed of the video
When I try the hook always get stuck In the hair, what am I doing wrong?
Try using your crochet needle slowly and at an upward angle and pull the strands all the way through from one side to the other, then use those hairs you are pulling out and wrap them over to the other side of the loc and use the needle to pull them back in and if it gets stuck than that’s ok. Tilt upward and pull out. Hope this helps.
I want to know how to interlock
Interlocking is very simple. I will make a video showing how it’s done for you. Thank you for your feedback. Please subscribe to be notified when I post it.
So we not gonna add any product?? To the scalp?!
Hi and thank you for watching. Product is not needed to create instant locs but as you can see at the end of the video, I did use product for the retwist. Thank you.
Pls what is the name of that pin you are using for the dread?
It is a crochet needle used to create the instant locs
The instant Dreads are usually soft after doing them.
Thank you for your feedback
You need to do my hair, I want love so bad I’m tired of doing my hair .
someone please help which direction should the tool face I don’t know I have been trying for 3 months no change 😭😭
The needle should be facing upward not downward.
Thank you soo much 😭😭 ❤️❤️❤️
,🙌🏿🙌🏿
How long did it take to complete the hair
It’s a good 6-8 hour job depending on how long the hair is and how small the locs are
Can you undo this??
This is a permanent process. They can be combed out like traditional locs or cut off
Are instant locs and backcombing the same method? Don't they both use crochet, I notice u didn't comb
No they are not the same thing. Completely different. Beck combing does not involve crocheting. Bank combing is done with a comb. I do not back comb when doing instant locs. Only certain textures require back combing such as straight hair, etc.
