American version of an Australian car with an American version of an Australian engine 🔥 ever since seeing Calvin’s 5th gen, I’ve been telling my friends how someone needs to do the swap with a Holden. Super excited for this!
@@J-Whit The 5th gen's platform was developed by Holden for the VE Commodore in Fishermen's Bend, Melbourne. Anything that fits in the Camaro should also fit in the VE Commodore range. Your car is the previous Commodore platform.
I was sad that I didn't buy the 4.2 Envoy over my current 5.3 Envoy because I really wanted a cool sounding straight six, but there's not much support for them in these trucks
We been racing, street driving and just having fun with a 2004. We added more power, brakes and suspension over 5yrs and its been a super fun and reliable car. So many ppl pass on them cuz its not a "real" GTO or looks like a grand prix when they really are pretty capable for relatively cheap.
I've been making videos about the Pontiac GTO for 14 years, and you are doing something that I have wanted to do for a while now. If you have any platform specific questions, please reach out to me. I'd love to help anyway I can.
Perfect build Aussie car with Aussie inspired engine build also perfect with the front sump, only car with front sump ls and solves the problem of the 4200 only coming with a front sump pan, coolest 4200 build
Wow mate this is super cool, ive been planning this for months and stoked someone else is doing it. Unfortunately instead of this we put out into the world the disaster that is the High Feature V6 Alloytec. 100% we should have made this instead!
Oh, nice move! Sometimes I think about a Barra in a Maverick to give Ford the 6-cyl contender it never had to fight GM. This is the same idea, but applied the opposite way. Cool for sure.
While the Focus RS wasn't available here, it's powertrain was, most T5 level Volvo models carried that engine, and a C30T5 was essentially the same car. Fun fact, Volvo's "White Block" engine family also includes 4, 5 and 6 cyl inline engines, N/A, and turbocharged, with T5 / T6 models from 250, to over 300 hp, over several years, and they are also a modular engine family. I have an 08 2900 Atlas 4 that I am hoping to get into a Ranger pickup chassis before winter gets here....
YESSS!!! As someone who loves and owns an Atlas trailblazer and a GTO, this has never came across my mind and im happy and excited to see how this goes. Going to start looking for roller chassis now haha.
Was just looking up 4200 videos and planning to swap one in a gto also thought I was the only one until I came across this can’t wait to see how it turns out. Hopefully more updates soon!
Yikes! I can't imagine what would motivate this engine in this car but I appreciate the initiative and what it takes to get it done if that's what you're inclined to do. The fact that nobody has gone fast with one yet and they aren't very durable with stock bottom ends would deter me if that sound of them didn't run me off first!! Lol Just bustin balls a little, good luck!!
As an Australian and Holden nerd. No, they couldn't have used the straight six in the Holden monaro (said mor-na-ro, look up the game over holden ads for the way we say it) , the 3.8 was first used in 1988 and updated to what you call the s2 in 1995, the vt Commodore (which was based on the Opel omega/Caddilac catera, but made wider etc) had the 3.8 in 1997. The 5.7 ls came out in 99, which was planned for from the start of the vt before 1997. The Monaro was a two door version of that sedan, the s3.8 did not sell well, the v8 did. We did get the ls2 in 2004 on the vy update Monaro and then the American fuel tank in 2005. Looking forward to see how this goes, but misinformation and misunderstanding not great.
I’ve been looking at Prius electric power steering set ups. I’ve found them used for $130 but I’m not quite ready for it yet and I don’t want it just sitting around.
@MrTurk6988 easiest to just cut and remove the chains under the rear cover and leave the shafts in. They don't weigh enough IMO to actually remove them. Just keep in mind, you will have annoying vibrations at certain RPMs after the shafts are disabled, but you're not going to hurt the engine.
@MrTurk6988 nope, it's due to primary and secondary imbalance forces from having an odd number of cylinders. It can't be fixed with crankshaft balance changes. That's why the balance shafts spin twice engine RPM, they create a counter acting frequency that's above the crankshaft rotation balance. I'm over simplifying it, you can find SAE papers explaining it better from GM and Volvo.
The stock hood wont. But a cowl hood will work. The motor will also sit lower when finsihed. We are making a modified front sump pan to sit it down another inch or so.
04 was a 5.7L, 05 and 06 were 6.0 LS2, IIRC. I think this is cool, but building big power 4200's is really just a novelty. It's cheaper and easier to make similar power in an LS-platform and you don't havee to re-engineer the cooling system and firewall, as you would likely have to do when swapping 4200's into cars that weren't originally available as such. Don't get me wrong, I still like these builds and will follow along, but dollar for dollar, they aren't practical yet.
For now, not much. It has lowering springs and ill probably upgrade control arms and shocks and struts. But i need to get it mocked up and fit/running first lol
@@J-WhitThere was a handling kit fitted by Holden to Police cars for that model Commodore chassis, otherwise HSV is your go to, for making Holden's steer better.
Brakes? Didn't look like there was room for a vacuum booster. You must be planning on manual brakes as there won't be a hydro boost pump thanks to your choice of steering assist?
I know i can get some good axles. as for the center chunk, im not sure yet. ive had pretty good luck with historically weak rear axle housings so its lower on my list honestly lol
Corvette killed everything else you think?.. but also economic downturn in the 08-09 was probably to blamed for a lot.
