When your radiator needs replacing with a new one this tutorial can help you make sure thew job goes correctly. This tutorial is for a heating system supplied by a header tank which is usually found in the loft. It's good to make sure the header tank is topped up with corrosion inhibiter.
If you have any decorating planned, once the radiator is off the wall, this is the perfect opportunity to do so.
Safety Tips
- Radiators are heavy. Be sure to use lifting assistance if needed.
- Wearing suitable clothing including knee pads.
- When drilling be sure to use protective eye-wear.

MUY buena calidad, el texto imagenes. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxbnOKZBE4evMO5V2vroHeCjq6d_MV6wJO Un manuel muy completo y trabajado. Resulta muy práctico. Para principiantes y profesionales. Lo recomiendo
Some useful advice. I learnt that the long holes in the brackets are to help you get the height of the radiator in line with the valves as you can slide the brackets up and down. Then when it is correct, fix screws through the round holes. Thank you.
Thanks James, this was literally what I came here to see and he didnt explain it at all!
This video was a great help.
Very useful thanks
Always have lots of rags at hand and spread them beneath the radiator before lifting it off. Don't use your best glass bowl to collect water. You don't need that much PTFE tape. If you wrap it around three times and tighten properly, that is sufficient.
Just had my offer accepted on first house. Subbed, Let’s gooooo
good luck mate, was same boat and I was gravely unprepared for radiators and heating.
Very nice tanks
The positioning of the brackets are not explained clearly
wow the QUINN!
This is easy
How about input and output on one side radiators?
Top tip.
For screwing rad valves into the main body of the rad don't go out and buy a half inch plumbing-specific hex key. It sux buying a tool you'll never need again. Simply grip the shaft of a m8 bolt in your mole grips and use the bolt head. Always ptfe this thread before installing the rad as a precaution.
Where can modern radiators be bought? I don't see them at large box hardware stores.
You said put corrosion inhibitor in the header tank - that's fine but what about a sealed system. ? In through the top of the rad with the cap removed with a funnel and tube, cap re-fitted then bleed the system.

LOL, pay a plumber. You're asking for specific questions and if you dont know then you should just hire a professional to do this.
I don't understand why people are saying the video shows the PTFE being wrapped in the wrong direction, not wrapped clockwise with the same direction as the nut tightening rotation. Are the valves reverse threaded - anti-clockwise? I've always wrapped PTFE in the same direction as I would be tightening the nut, to stop it unravelling. Am I right?
lifeshort lol thanks

The most crucial part of measuring is not explained enough lol
ua-cam.com/video/WAx0Tnz1hEk/v-deo.htmlsi=25Fu2iROq8HJPdma this video explains the measuring in a bit more detail
Which part? I thought measuring is pretty self explanatory if you know how to measure stuff
They hid the mess he made of draining that radiator! Water went down in the gap between the wall and the floor! Would have made much more sense to put a plastic sheet down first and a towel to catch any water that missed the bowl!
As soon as you touch the lock valves on old radiator - they will start leaking badly.
Now PTFE tape quickly wrapped around unwound thread on adjusting but will seal, its only temporary. If it started leaking again you could come home to a big wet mess. The rubber seals must lose flexibility over time.
Expect it and have PTFE tape handy.
OK, I have a new wickes rad now on the wall, it did not come with tail pieces and I cant find either tail piece or tail key on the wickes site, suggestions please.
WHAT,S THE KIND OF RADIATOR PIPE
How do I know if I have a pressured system?
pressurised system = combi boiler.
If you're asking that.... then you absolutely need a plumber!
You only get given one pair of eyes - ALWAYS wear eye protection when drilling.
7 years later and comment still going strong
Safety squint will do 👍
I dont understand the measuring sequence he does not explain this very clearly.
Neither do I and that was the whole point of me watching the video
Which side do you put air release valve
You mean the bleed valve? If your radiator is absolutely level it doesn't really matter. If one end of the radiator is higher than the other (spirit level) put the bleed valve at the higher end.
Ptfe tape **
how much ptfe taper did he use half the roll wasn't it
+FunkSoulClassic89 you need 6-7 turns on the tail pieces
baba booey
Screwfix is better
woodwork project beginner .
This vid has left me more confused than I was before watching
Hope they will not use my cooking bowl
2:35 Tghis guy has never used PTFE tape before. He is a joke!
Hahaha rookie
🤣🤣🤣🤣
What? he's putting the ptfe in the correct directions, whats wrong with that?
@@Professional_UA-cam_Commenter If you wrap it in the opposite direction that the parts move as you tighten then there is a chance that the tape will bunch up and cause a small leak either immediately or after some time. Therefore you could get a call back. Is that the sort of reputation you want as a tradesman?
@@abscomm i have no idea what you mean. Are union joints treaded in reverse or something? IIRC they are not. The way he's wrapped it, the end is facing away from the direction it will be treaded in.
I am pretty sure you are dead wrong on this.
That radiator is not level.
Not informative in terms of measurements . We expected to know the measurements
Yours old. Radiator is.
What was that all about. U didn’t tell us the most important part of the installation the measurements. What a joke.
This guy doesn't have a clue what he's doing he's putting the order tape on wrong and you don't put ptfe tape on the bleeding valve or blank plate as they have a rubber seal wickes were did you get this guy lmao
I hgffff
+tom smithy - he did put the ptfe tape on correctly - clockwise. He didn't put ptfe tape on the bleed valve and blanking plate which is correct - what were you watching ?
Not sure what you saw, but that's the one thing he actually did right
Worst video I ever seen
This bloke is a joke
Are you a plumber? No? Then why are you installing radiators? Only thing DIYers like you do is void warranties and mess things up. Just stop dude....
