That is probably some of the best advice i've heard on youtube for pond keepers. A dirty filter can mean a clean and healthy pond. All too many pond experts are advocates of clean filters who then have to keep adding beneficial bacteria when all of the beneficial bacteria is already there in a not so clean filter.
hi buddy i have a easeypod automatic and would like to do a clean when needed and not on the timer is there anyway i can disconect that as winter is coming and dont feel it needs that amount of cleaning . many thanks to you
So i have recently changed my filter from a box to a kockney koi, much better filter very clear water however my fish have started flashing, i suspected fluke initially but tested water and it shows I'm at 0.5 ammonia. So I've water changed and stopped feeding. Will i have to change water more.
My ammonia is at 0.2 ppm already I've only just introduced 2 koi about 3 days ago, into the fresh pond with a brand new 10,000 per litre per hour pond filter. All my other levels are spot on, but ammonia is 0.2 ppm. Is this because my filter has not matured enough and should I add a pond bomb in to help increase the bacteria levels? My pond is 5ft x 4ft x3 ft depth roughly 850 litres.
my pond is about 4.00 to 5 or 6.00pp ammonia put loads of detoxifier in (Seachem prime and Blagdon ammonia remover) done a water change and stopped feeding them now and on day 3 and still no difference? not sure what else i can do
You will need to stop feeding and keep changing the water as it’s toxic to your fish. You may have too many fish, over fed with small filters or immature filters if fish have been added. Ammonia not good, I would buy anything else, water changes and stop feeding cheers for comment
Any unnatural accumulation in water can effect your fish. They aren’t as bad a ammonia and nitrite. Best thing for nitrates in plants and not over feeding. Also keep low to normal fish stocks and your nitrates will always be nice and low
@thep0ndman thanks I did think that .but there's nothing on the market for nitrates. Not like everything else. But the hardest one is fish stocks you buy a few little ones pond still looks empty then a few year's .go bye the fish have grown. And the ones you thought would thin out. didn't, so now you've got to meany. The story of every koi keeper . Don't you know, haha
Hi, I also have a problem with ammonia in my pond, which has been alleviated by partial water changes & adding nitrifying bacteria, my nitrite is around 0.1 and I have stopped feeding for 4 days, do you have any better advice? thanks
Water change and stop feeding the best thing to do, i personally would hold off adding anything else in, just be patient and let nature sort it out for you. It shouldn’t take too long.
hi just asking for some advice , about month and half ago I over fed my mirror carp and common carp and give the pond very hi ammonia only realised after about a week after testing it ,sorted the ammonia level out then week or so later I noticed 1 of my bigger mirror carp with white all over it ,so went to my local pond place and the said it is proberly white spot from stress with the ammonia , so the told me to treat it with anti parasite and fungas it was the last day of the treatment yesterday, today I just thought I would test the water now its saying it got really high level of nitrate could that be to do with the treatment thanks
Hi thanks for the comment. Nitrate is ok it’s just the end product of ammonia and nitrite which is basically nutrients which usually plant life etc would absorb to compete the cycle. If the fish etc are ok I wouldn’t worry, to much, plants are amazing to have to help naturally balance a pond if you can have them. Keep food levels low not clean filters etc at the moment to help bacteria keep ammonia etc at bay cheers
Hi thanks for the helpful video. I think I've done the same thing as your dad. In this colder weather I continued feeding but probs more than I should as I envisaged fattening them up for winter. I noticed then a koi jump which thought odd. Did ammonia test and I had a spike. I've done what you did in your water although I changed about 5% water 1st day and would say 10-15% next day. The ammonia is down but still present should I continue to do water changes or leave for a week without feeding do you think?
@@kenr4676 Hi ken, first to test your water, fish have an unbelievable immune system and can naturally fight off most parasites etc but not if you have any issues with your water quality. Its vital to keep your water quality 100% like it would be in the wild. ammonia, nitrite are the main - PH and KH worth checking but if you've been using tap water they will probably be ok any way
I built a 14foot raises and in ground pond over lock down do you have a video on that seive filter of your fathers plz im desperate for a seive used or diy love the vid bro

Thanks for comment. Always best to keep you filters dirty for as long as possible before they start to block up.
Leave them dirty yes, but water still needs to flow.

Don’t worry about additive it will naturally come down, slowly but surely wins the race
It's been hammering down here for ten days I lost a lot of roach now my carp are listless what can I do
What type of pond is it, natural, lined? Have you been able to test the water at all?

Sorry for delay didn't see reply. You can do another small W/C, the bacteria wont take too long to catch up!

Tnx sir very simple . Same problem i encountered i always clean my filter system .. new subscriber here
