  • The rise of the bagger shows no signs of abating, with manufacturers stripping the excess from their cruisers in the hope of attracting new buyers. But should you buy on heritage, specification, or budget?

    "First thing i need is an open face crash helmet" *catches helmet*
    "I need a cool black leather jacket" *catches jacket*
    "I need a couple of cruiser bikes and 2 good friends" Was i the only one who was disappointed he didnt catch them?

    The switchback is a dyna chassis. It's not a tourer. To do a rightful comparison you should have compared a road King, road glide or a street glide. Those are Harley baggers meant for touring.

  • @brucesantacory1390
    @brucesantacory1390 7 років тому +5

    2 things..........with the harley, down the road you'll be looking at a $4000 plus cam chain tensioner shoe replacement, IF it doesn't go before you catch it and it blows your motor, and Harley resale is a MYTH check MSRP to MSRP and then book value to book value, almost always the harley loses more money

    • @fiveowaf454
      @fiveowaf454 7 років тому +1

      Harley's are also a bit like Mercedes were years ago where the resales looked high, but that didn't take into account how you used to spend thousands more than the initial price on accessories, some of which were essentials like a radio. Your average Harley will have many thousands of extras on it, where as many Japanese bikes will be pretty much as they came and were also likely bought for significantly less than the retail price as well. If you are concerned with resale then buying new should always be avoided, when you can pick up a bike with a few thousand miles for almost half the price of new, it's hard for me to justify buying anything else.

    • @fiveowaf454
      @fiveowaf454 7 років тому

      Agreed, but there's a difference between aftermarket stuff and thing that are extras like ABS, luggage, extra chrome and so on that can add thousands to the retail price at the dealers, but then isn't taken in to account when resales are discussed. Often people are comparing MSRP to the resale, not what people are actually paying as out of the door price.

    • @brucesantacory1390
      @brucesantacory1390 7 років тому +1

      true and that out the door price makes harleys resale value even WORST, now me i never buy new, but after 35 years working for harley-davidson i like busting some of the harley myths and resale is a BIG ONE

  • @apoapsisperiapsis

    Well that would apply to choosing bikes that are all around the same weight, just as it would for choosing bikes that are all around the same price. They have to choose bikes that are at least similar in some regard, they choose to choose to compare baggers that cost are priced around the same.

  • @Firecul
    @Firecul 11 років тому

    Would it be to get something the same price?
    I've not looked up Harley prices but they said that one was in between the other two.

    I have a Harley and a Gsxr . Comparing cruiser or tourer or bagger for flat out performance vs just how you feel on it , personally to me stupid.

    Anyone notice the radio on the Kawasaki is tuned to 98.9 FM? That's Radio 1. Not exactly in the cruiser spirit...

  • @AnthonysWestTexasRides

    Why the hell did you choose the Kawasaki Vaquero for the comparison, you should have chosen the 1700 Nomad for a more equal comparison.

    • @fiveowaf454
      @fiveowaf454 7 років тому +1

      I was looking for another bike recently recently and looked at a 2012 Vaquero in a dealers, they had many big cruiser and touring bikes there, including Triumph Rocket 3's. The Vaquero felt the heaviest by a long shot to lift up off side stand of anything there. The Nomads next to it felt so much lighter, I had to check they were 1700's and not 900's. I presume much of it is that fairing, it seems like it weighs a ton, but is probably just because the weight is so high up. That bike was quickly ticked of my list of possibles, it felt every pound of it's weight and then some.

    I have an open face helmet.
    I have a cool black leather jacket.
    I just don't have any friends...

    Seems a tad dishonest though then because they supposed to be comparing bikes, based on all factors not one e.g. price over the others.

    I automatically assume that any brand/company that is justified by it's fans, using the logic "because it's a -insert brand name here-" is crap and I blindly stay away from those.

    kinda odd why they chose the smallest of the harley baggers to compete against the largest of the kawi and the suzukis...kinda odd if nor biased.

      Exactly the Harley in this battle should have been the Road King to match the Suzuki or the Street Glide to match the Kawasaki. They have a Dyna model of some sort or another. Even if it is a suked up Dyna it still is not a good comparison to a highway mile eating beast. I think they should have compared these two to the Road King

    I was die laughing because it was that funny . The Harley Davidson bike was the piece of shit amount the three bikes yet in the long run its re sale value Fitch more dollars and cent . Yet I still prefer to take the foreign motorcycle home than the Harley . Harley Davidson motorcycle is nationally recognized but not best build and dependable .

    L and R indicators are annoying to people that normally ride metric, to a Harley rider 1 indicator switch is annoying..........and to the metric owner letting a Harley rider use it hearing horn for every left turn and knowing the starter for every right turn is super annoying
    I let my brother ride my fxdwg but not my C90T

    Motorcycle testers have become obsessed with panniers taking a full-face helmet, in much the same way as car testers are obsessed about where to put a large bottle of water or a bloody banana. They're all a bit dim. In the motorcycle scenario, if you're actually touring the panniers will be full of your clothes, shoes, wash kit, snacks and everything else it takes to make a holiday. The last thing you would do is waste the space by putting a crash helmet in it. That can be locked to the bike by threading it onto your anti-theft chain. Panniers were never meant for crash helmets. Also, I don't buy the assumption that if it's a cruiser you're looking for the Harley Davidson name will decide it for you. The HD brand has had so much bad publicity (for many reasons) I think the bikes have to stand on their individual merits and nothing more. For me the Suzuki looks the best value and best package.

    The intruder was compared to 2 very poor bikes, what about a triumph thunderbird, victory (various) etc? I wouldn't get any...my money is on a Rocket Roadster anyway ;)
