Thank you for posting these!! They bring so much pleasure. Especially NOW (May 2021) when the world is in such a mess and things are ... so ... uncertain. I am deeply grateful to be be able to focus on very solid things like houses, walls, repairs... budgets (someone else's!!). Thank you. (And ESPECIALLY for these early seasons!!)

Well, considering this was Katie's first renovation, I thought it was absolutely BRILLIANT.
EVERYONE comes in over budget and late. Late because there are always unforeseen problems and people never realize how long things take, EVER. And over budget because, even when you HAVE a budget .... there are UNFORESEEN problems and expenses. So... it's funny that they bring this up each time, as if it's an anomaly! Ha!

@N P SO true about people getting emotionally attached and making decisions based on their tastes and proclivities! A huge proportion of people go into this thinking they're in a new profession, but then treat it as if they're doing up their own house. (I'm shocked at just how fuzzy-thinking some people are when it comes to plans). But making solid budgets comes from having experience and KNOWING (experientially) the sorts of things that go wrong/CAN go wrong. It's an unusual person who knows that straight off the bat.

I really don't understand her statement that she wouldn't want the kitchen anywhere near the living room. Whyever not!?! Why would anyone want the kitchen yards down a hallway? What if you are watching something or reading or visiting and want a snack or tea or something? You have to go clear into the next county to the kitchen, fix it, and shlup it all the way back! Is this an English thing that they have to have their kitchen as far from their living areas as they can get them? With staircases and fireplaces and hallways in between?

She doesn't seem to have accounted for the fact that five people might want to hang out in front of the Tv together sometimes. Plus a couple of girlfriends/boyfriends and pretty soon, that tiny sofa won't be enough.
