1:38 "the right person with my taste hasn't come through and seen it." To me, that is the key (no pun intended) as to why the long time on the market. She's waiting for this "right person with HER taste" which is probably rare when trying to sell one's property.
This, the Canadian version of "The Unsellables" first aired in 2009. 11:28 Lynne had used gray in her home and Sofie did not like it. Look where gray is used now in 2023.
And gray along with all white kitchens is going OUT ! Along with all those framed pictures that have sayings on them. Which I never liked. But I don’t like mass produced “art”.
Honestly for what sells in Sothern California now as a nice home, this is a gem. Redoing the blinds and the carpet is no big deal. Yeah the furniture is a little tired but this place is so well kept. Sometimes it is crazy to me what people can’t look past
This show is almost 15 years old, the price of the home has probably doubled if not more by now, so maybe it was over priced for not being updated. I’d rather pay less and then update accordingly to my own taste too, I don’t get why people are so lured by staging!!
I agree. After all, the furniture is not staying in the house is it? Do people in Toronto leave their furniture? I don't live in California but all the people I've known want white walls. I certainly wouldn't take up carpet and put more carpet. People want wood or laminate or LVP which looks like wood. Maybe this episode is old because I find the updates outdated.
@@hildacollier2638 People typically take their furniture and everything that isn’t nailed down in Toronto, so who knows why people get so picky about furniture that isn’t theirs!
I think the price was the issue. The price was for a renovated property, not a property where anyone who bought it would want to spend money renovating it. Remember that the realtor wanted to drop the price of the unrenovated house.
My dad did that with his 1967 built tri level. The location was excellent but there had been no updating. But everything worked and was clean. We only repainted most rooms, and took down the 3 layer thick livingroom curtains. You know the ones… that looked like quilt at the top ! They were big in the late 70’s-early 80’s. And my parents already had an open concept kitchen.
When we went to go sell my grandparents old home the realtor said just get rid of all the old furniture. Which we did anyway. It wasn’t helping. The house was super cute without all the old stuff in it. Sold in 2 weeks
As a realtor, I think most of the money should have went to the exterior as the inside was not that bad. I would have also had the room by the back door more of a recreation room to provide more of a wow factor. Who needs 2 living rooms?
Watching this in 2023 the inside still looks dated even after the improvements were made. 😅 The outside would have looked 100 times better if painted white with a turquoise door or some other light and fun color.
The exterior of the house, painted as it was, screamed Bates Motel. That was an obvious first problem to address. Interior color scheme and ugly furniture was another big problem.
I don t understand those redecoratings of houses. In France you buy a footage, a potentiality, and every new buyer redecorates according to their tastes. The changes proposed in chose vidéos are so cold, impersonal and cliché...
Still dated even after improvements but the house has lots of potential. I wouldn’t even mind it if they don’t renovate. New homeowners can do whatever they want.
We did that with my grandparents cute cottage style home built in 1950. We just painted all the rooms and got rid of the old furniture. No renovations. Sold in 2 weeks
Hello Cayla, I am the Realtor in this episode(was my old married name). So this episode was shot around St Patrick's Day week 2007. After the reno HGTV did I was able to get more photographs made and I sold it a week after. I had tried with no luck to get the price reduced before the reno. If memory is correct I think it sold for 430K in the end. In my 20+ years as a Realtor I never ever had a house sit on the market like this. It was very large and for the Sq ft price it was a deal. I put it on the market late 2006, we had a horrible winter lots of snow. I did an open house every weekend just about!!!! The realtors called back for a second look in the episode I had met and they had brought clients before the renovation. Even though we could all see the potential without the reno the buyers at that time just wanted turn key. People have commented that the house exterior should have been painted, this was impossible as it was aluminum siding with the color in it, and possible to paint but not for the episode- they only have a week and it was freezing outside. Anyhow, was a memorable sale for me!!!!! On an up note I became the consultant for the show from then on(this was episode 8), find the comp houses(which I did for this episode), I wrote a bunch of points for Sophie to use on her talks at beginning and through the show. In the second season I found the homes that were to be featured and renovated to sell. So I ended up working on about 30 episodes. Was a fun gig for me. The crew were really great.
They could’ve spent all that money to repaint the outside and then just get rid of all the furniture. I don’t think the after was an improvement. It still looked like an office or waiting room. It looked like someone was running a hospice out of their house.
That fence is awful and the colour of the exterior is a put off, but I can't see what was wrong with the original decor and furniture - sure, it was dated, but it won't be there when you move in and you can choose your own paint, etc once it's yours. I also find that the houses on either side of all of the houses that have been on these shows are built too close - a bigger gap would make them feel less crowded in but there isn't a lot which can be done about that.
IN 2011 we put our 120 yr house up......a year later we accepted an offer we were NOT giving it away today it doesnt matter what your house looks like...everyone buys anything
The exterior of Lynn’s house is not just oddball, it’s dreary - it’s the plain box in a neighborhood full of architectural elements. It’s just not what 99&44/100% of the shoppers in the area want style wise. Just empty it of all the outdated furniture.
The house was not horrible, but true decor was not best. I dislike carpets as I prefer hardwood floors and rugs. In general, it seems house for sale needs to be furnished and presented in up-to-date style. Otherwise only more experienced ppl or flippers will see the potential.
Sophie Allsopp looks like Monica Lewinski. She just needs the bright red lipstick. I don't see dated as much as a blank slate. I'd paint and decorate my own way. I don't understand the logic of redecorating a house just to sell it.
When a house is that odd-looking on the outside, it needs to be spectacular on the inside. Instead, it looks tired, drab, and boring. The first thing she should do is put a new roof on it -- with a peak and gables, so it doesn't look like a truncated toadstool. Then get rid of those ugly vertical blinds and all that dreary gray.
Not impressed with red door...at all!!! Red and brown is not very pretty! A bright blue door or maybe even yellow. But definitely NOT red! Is the house selling FURNISHED? Because otherwise I don't understand buying new furniture!
“I can’t understand why it hasn’t sold”. Ummm. Because it’s very ugly ! Lol. But seriously, people don’t look at the square footage of a home. They look at peoples things and judge the house based on that
Sell your house, blow your money travelling and when you’re older in a few years and too sick to travel you live where ?? With what ? If these people needed to get back into the housing market 15 years after this was filmed good luck ! If this dude wanted to just go play everyday he should have financed it himself. Good luck to her. She sold her life to sit on the back of a stinking motor bike. Ugh !!

I agree it needed some kerb appeal, but inside looked like a care home - offputting for the target market
That wall unit and fireplace in the living room is a huge improvement … Anthony and his crew do nice work!
I think the outside is what held it back. The inside was fine.. It lacked the kerbside factor., very boxy
AND SOOO DARK IN COLOR.. WRONG NEIGHBORHOOD...MORE MODERN CABIN IN WOODS HOW SHOULD BE DECORATED..BUT CLASSY LOOKS GREAT!! KUDOS!!
I like the red front door. Nice job on the fireplace.

I like it in the beginning. It's a blank canvas. I look at the house, not the things in it.
Same here, and the location is no 1.

hate to say GRAY is OUT of Style!!!

But not even now on the woodwork... Just the walls
Only in 2009 do you cover real hardwood floors with carpet.
What about the ''art'' in the living room that looks like white paint splashed around?@@cjhoward409

They had beautiful hardwood floors and covered them with wall to wall carpet?!?!?!?!
I honestly don't see what was wrong with this house. Yep, a bit dated, but nothing that was off-putting like some of the others I've seen.
I would not have spent all the money and put those shelves in.
I was thinking exactly the same !!!
I agree. And the new owners would have their own furniture and window coverings. It's immaculately clean, too.
I think the price was the issue. The price was for a renovated property, not a property where anyone who bought it would want to spend money renovating it. Remember that the realtor wanted to drop the price of the unrenovated house.
Paint the exterior, clear the old furniture and reduce the price. The house would have sold in a week.
If they had just dropped the price by $50K without the remodeling it would have sold sooner.
My dad did that with his 1967 built tri level. The location was excellent but there had been no updating. But everything worked and was clean. A smart buyer will bargain and do well with this.
I love this guy on this show. I learn from him every episode. He’s so good, so nice.
Beautiful House. Especially the outside look: cool and stylish.
When we went to go sell my grandparents old home the realtor said just get rid of all the old furniture. Which we did anyway. It wasn’t helping. The house was super cute without all the old stuff in it. Sold in 2 weeks
Our home was on the market for almost 600 days. Beautiful yard, stocked lake.Very unique home. Its under ground. We love it. Awesome neighbors.
I like different and unique homes. We built our own, and designed it ourselves. But I think most people like cookie cutter houses.
Cool. 👍🏼
As a realtor, I think most of the money should have went to the exterior as the inside was not that bad. I would have also had the room by the back door more of a recreation room to provide more of a wow factor. Who needs 2 living rooms?
Best thing to do is remove all furniture and sell or put in storage - then, show the house w/o furniture.
The house is cute.
Like a little chocolate 🍫 box.
Watching this in 2023 the inside still looks dated even after the improvements were made. 😅 The outside would have looked 100 times better if painted white with a turquoise door or some other light and fun color.
Should have painted stair bannisters black or dark charcoal. Oak is dated.
The changes proposed in chose vidéos are so cold, impersonal and cliché...
pity they didn't paint the staircase.

I wonder... when was this episode filmed? I also wouldn't mind starting from scratch on this one.

thanks, yeah pretty old then @@hmsmile1225
Ridiculous! The house and decor was fine. The reason she sold it was you got her to reduce the price by $50k!!!!! And spend $5k decorating.
Lol let's get a wiggle on ,love it 😅 11:55 ❤
I like the way the house looks on the outside.
The house at 7 minutes into video is fantastic. I have the floor plan. Maybe someday I will have my own. So unique.
I’d love more details about the sale. How many days or weeks specifically did it take to sell? Did she get above asking price?

Agreed!

awful but so funny!!
I would be looking for room size and quality of upkeep, not the personal stuff. And if selling, ask the right price.
It looked more high end and it did sell!
People are really unimaginative if they can't imagine a room without furniture in it. I guess its a low IQ.
😊😅
Mrs.Lynne you're in great ,hands love , Sofie will work her magic 🎩 ✨️ 💛 💖 ❤️ 9:41
These episodes have to be 20 years old.
Nobody has TVs like that
I LOVE OLD EPISODES!! PROVES REAL ESTATE ALWAYS BEST INVESTMENT FORGET THE STOCK MARKET!!!😂
Beautiful makeover. However, I would not have been able to tolerate the chain link fence lining the property or the all white dated appliances.

At 12:09 ... she's painting the door with a roller, without removing the hardware?
what happened to the cupboards in the wall unit? way too busy now its a massive shelf unit in my opinion.
I can't understand why you cover the beautiful wood floor with that carpet!!! 🙄 the other sold house has not carpet...one reason shoud be, no?🤔
I hope you help the sweetheart get her home sold, because 🏡 you're awesome at it love❤ 7:14
The redownload sucks
They should have concentrated on the outside more than the intended
I just cant get past that honey oak stair rail.
There might a reason the wood floors were recarpeted. Perhaps there was no time to refinish the floors or install wood floors.

the "wow" factor is the old ugly furniture...decor should be modern
That video was shot in early 2007. That's why everything is outdated.
The exterior is a huge issue. The price needs to reflect that.
How old is this episode? That modern house was outdated to me.
Didn’t see the bathroom(s).
The wall unit is great but the brown sofa-yuck! And that dated pink bedroom.
The house exterior is beautiful.. different.. but the landscape was uninviting. The snow didnt let show the tree area.
The inside was fine..
I want this house
I wish they would give us the actual price the house sold for.

They should’ve just shown the house empty and that’s it. No ugly dated furniture could’ve been enough imo!
I hope her new relationship worked out since she sold her house and they’re gonna spend the money on traveling
Where as this filmed? That’s an enormous ask8ngmprice
Toronto, Canada.
This is not a British home. In fact it looks very much like Downtown Toronto where I live. And the owner has a Canadian accent.
I wonder how much it went for.

That house was absolutely horrible. Don't let her ever decorate another home. She still thinks it looked good. The outside is also horrible.
G'day, Sabrina Keller! Maybe it's just me, but the wood-tone door in contrast to the dark gray exterior made me think of a board-up after a fire.
Did the house sell? That is the question.
At the end...SOLD sign.
The wall shelves and fire in the living room are lovely buy the paintings/art work are dreadful.
Ironically, enough gray is usually what they put in rental houses now. I don’t know about houses you’re trying to sell.
Buyers do not get it that it's not there house anymore.
Not impressed with red door...at all!!! Red and brown is not very pretty! A bright blue door or maybe even yellow. But definitely NOT red! Is the house selling FURNISHED? Because otherwise I don't understand buying new furniture!
The fireplace insert and custom surround would have easily cost $5000 today. How old is this video really?
This show is from 2009
The house is ugly on the outside, other than the dated furniture, nothing wrong with it.
45 degree triangle roofs are dreadful.
I really enjoy this program apart from the very distracting 70s porn music. Please get rid of the music, or at least change it and keep it low key.
