Wonderful! I love your sewing. And I know some Gators fans who would love this exactly as you made it. I never thought I'd see those colors so beautifully combined.
I have some collegiate fabric that I bought when my daughter went to college last year and I haven't had a clue as to what to do with it. Now I do, thank you for the wonderful inspiration! This would also look great in just the solids, a very quick and beginner friendly pattern to make.
As an absolute beginner, thank you for this simple and more detailed explanation. I may not do a sports quilt, but I at least have a better understanding of some basics.
I did this using LSU fabric with purple and gold with white background. Came out great, but too short for twin bed in niece’s dorm. Instead of adding border that would distract from pattern. I made a partial row of size of LSU fabric triangles on top and bottom. Added 16” to length making perfect size for twin bed.
I'm not a sports fan at all (no, not even soccer, which is my country's national sport), but I like the quilt a lot! Perhaps ideal with my Legend of Zelda or Disney fabric
Wow, I need to to make a Redskins, cowboys, ravens, nationals. Guess I better get busy. Loved your quilt on MSQC challenge, it was fun watching. 😂😂😂❤❤❤❤
Hi Rob! My fav team is Notre Dame. go Irish!! ☘️☘️☘️☘️☘️. So far so good this season. Hoping they make the playoffs but who knows. Lol love the pattern/layout. May make this for my son - huge Cowboys fan and Xavier Basketball fan. I just saw they have Xavier Fabrics here in Cincinnati now! Thanks Rob!!!
You are such a great teacher! I do have a question. If I have scraps that "read" as red, white, and blue with a focus fabric, do you think it will still come out looking okay? We have so many scraps that we try to use in QOV. I love how your design mind works!
Would you happen to know how much of the themed fabric you would need if you are not also using it for the backing? it's around $24/metre in Canada so I'd probably use a different backing that was a bit more cost effective...
I don't want to use the Gator fabrics on the back. Can someone help me figure out how much yardage I would need of the Gator fabrics just for the front?
I graduated from the University of Floida and am a huge gator fan! I hate to break it to you, but the school colors are orange and blue. No green :( I do like the quilt though.
How much fabric of the print would you buy if you did not use it for the backing? The plain fabrics are not as nice but are a lot cheaper than the printed.
Hi Joyce! The fabric amounts listed are for the quilt top only, so the amount shown is without backing. This quilt calls for 4.25 yards of the printed fabric. I hope this helps!
I'm a Cowboys fan for pro football, and have been for about 26 years. However, I don't see them winning the big game this year if they don't get it together soon. 😔 My college team is Sam Houston State (EAT 'EM UP KATS), but it's unlikely I'll find that fabric anywhere since they aren't TAMU, UT, or Tech. 🙄😏
Hi Lynn! You can find the free PDF for this quilt pattern here: www.missouriquiltco.com/land/mansewing/sports-star-quilt/assets/sports-star-quilt.pdf Happy quilting!
The team fabrics could be cut from 2 squares NOT on point as well if you started with a larger square. For 2 quadrants a left, right, top, and bottom are needed. So...you could use a larger square (I haven't done the math yet) and cut on the double diagonal to get 4 pieces.
Perfect quilt Rob! I'm making my son a Florida Gators quilt for Christmas🐊 chomp chomp
Wonderful! I love your sewing. And I know some Gators fans who would love this exactly as you made it. I never thought I'd see those colors so beautifully combined.
Go GATORS! I love the fabric!

This is the best design I have seen for a sport fabric quilt! Great tutorial!

I need help!!! My top thread is bunching and winding above the hole of the needle. Don't know if it's my tension or my bobbin. :(
